  1. Bottom line, why is it a problem that everyone gets in?

The problem is that these Schools that can't win a regular season game against often times similar size/talent schools are forced to play another game thatthey have no chance of competing in. It's another week of headaches, unwanted travel, unmotivated participants, and a needless game. When was the last time an 0-10 team went to the playoffs and actually won?????

  2. At some point, one has to wonder what is wrong INSTEAD of talent. Are kids not playing because of the culture of continuously losing? Sometimes there is talent at the School that never hits the field. I'm aware of one School that is 13W and 70L in the past 8 seasons with a 12~point per game average and been shut out 24 times in that time frame. I just don't buy that there is no talent inh an 8 year stretch. Maybe the coach, maybe the staff(or lack thereof) if funding issues, culture, or maybe both. :idunno:

  3. Lets face it.......every school has kids that are "going to transfer" but few do. Schools will always have some parents unhappy with the coach, and when it comes right down to it, it usually will all go away.....particularly when the wins come or little Johnny gets more PT. Give the new guy a chance. Everyone knows he's a good coach, and sometimes, a new environment will do one good.

  4. I don't blame the small schools one bit for boycotting or dropping from this tourney. What started as a "true small school" tourney when it began has now become more about $. I know all the arguments about enrollment numbers etc., but what was intended to give the little guy a chance at a "state" title has been eclipsed by the reasons of "too many small school consolidations, we have to have a certain number of participants to make it financially feasible," and many others. Fact is, when Steidel and others started this, it was so teams like Bellevue, Dayton, H.Cross (much smaller enrollment then), Silver Grove, etc. that will NEVER be in the sweet 16 could experience the opportunities. The vision was not for Lloyd, NCC, Newport, and others to compete just so there were enough teams to maintain their sponsors, finances etc.

  5. Whats going on over in Lee County? are they open or will they keep Coach Broadwell who filled in for Coach Johnson who was let go earlier in the season?

I had heard that Coach Miles at Bracken County might not be returning, but nothing official. Anyone have any insight?

Hearing Williamsburg will be open but nothing official yet.

Well I will shoot down my own prediction on Bullitt East and Blackburn. I now heard Coach told the kids yesterday he is coming back next season.

This thread is about discussing which jobs are open...not why jobs aren't open. We all know you're unhappy with the Coach Tackett. This isn't the place to discuss that.

    Really???

  6. Birdbrain, I think the point being made by ESPN is that the ball was in fact secured prior to the slide or during the slide if you will. The scenario I think was the player actually was in possession, prior to even hitting the floor, got tangled up during a drive, hit the floor (with ball in possession......dribble ceased) and then slid. In my book and/or eyes, that's a travel. Then again, I'm not a ref, but unless Clyde hasn't interpreted the way I just described it, then I defer to his judgement since he is in fact an official. If indeed what I just described is what Clyde is explaining, then it's just another :idunno:

  7. Clyde, while everyone appreciates your input, sometimes you need to slow down a little and not take the questions and replies too personally. Those posting scenarios are simply looking for answers, and some of yours appear knowledgeable, but your response on occasion comes across as if you are irritated by the question.

  8. And if Basketball were classified with the same criteria as track and cross country, there would be 94 teams eligible. Again, since track/cross country have both boys and girls teams, that seems more appropriate. That would eliminate Lloyd and St. Henry from 9th region contention. Class A in football is limited to the smallest 32 football teams in the state. So if basketball were classified the same as football, there would be only 32 teams eligible.

To your other point, where you argue that NCC, Newport or St. Henry, for that matter, get very little out of playing the smallest 10 - 25 teams in the state, I may agree somewhat. However, those aren't the only teams in the tournament that they will play. I'm sure playing for a state championship means just as much to NCC and Newport as it does to Villa and Dayton.

So we can simply agree to disagree. What the "All A" is now is the lowest 46~% of the entire state eligible for the "small school" tournament, so I guess you are either large school or small school essentially. From the All A website "The inception of a small school basketball tournament began in January of 1980. The first Class "A" Tournament was held at Holy Cross High School in Latonia with eight teams. In 1981 it moved to Bellevue with ten teams, all from Northern Kentucky.

The 1982 to 1989 Classic went statewide by inviting six Class A schools from around the state to compete with the ten northern Kentucky schools" So I ask, without any classification, what exactly did Mr. Frey, Mr. Steidel, and Fr. Heile have in mind at the inception of this tournament? I know what the intent was, and it was to give the little guy that would NEVER make it to Rupp a chance to compete for a State Championship. The obstacle was KHSAA wanted no part of it, no classification, and thus, Ky and Delaware are the only two states that do not have BB classification. So with that, I respect your opinion, however I stand by the fact that NCC and others get nothing out of playing the little guy. They would be best suited to simply have a practice. Maybe the smaller 32 or 39, or 41 across the state(whatever the number) should opt out of the All A and organize something more competitive. :thumb:

  9. Since you are "so in the know" then, what classifies a team as an "A" school? I didn't know that there was a classification for basketball. If we are going to use a different sport's classification, how about using track since that could be applied to both boys and girls? NCC, St Henry, Newport, Lloyd and Holy Cross are all "A" Schools for track.

You are missing my point EG and no need to get sarcastic. The fact is, there is no "classification" in BB and I'm well aware of that, however thats a topic for another day. IF (and in theory) BB was separated by enrollment as football is, there are 41 Schools across the state that would qualify for this "ALL A" tourney. And since there is no classification, why is it even named "All A", but moving on, there has been 1 team the past 21 years that has won the "ALL A" with an enrollment that would make them "Class A" IF BB was classified with the same criteria as Football. Back to my other observation....does NCC or Newport or any of the teams in the 90-125 range of enrollment benefit from a game with a school that has an enrollment in the bottom 10-25 in the state?

  10. Villa always plays hard so I'm sure they did the same last night against NCC. However, this is a basketball tournament, not football, correct? Also curious about which sport St. Henry competes at the 2A level. The Touchstone "All A Classic" is open to the smallest 125 or so basketball schools in the state. By the most recent 2 year average, Lloyd appears to be the largest school in the 9th region competing in this tournament and they are about the 113th smallest followed by St. Henry at 106, Newport 90th, HC at 89th, NCC 84th, Beechwood at 82nd smallest.

I am well aware EG that the All A takes the 125 lowest, however that doesnt make them "class A" schools. All I'm saying is if your enrollment exceeds what is recognized as an "A" School, you should not be competing in the "All A" classic, or simply change the name to "KY SMALL SCHOOL" Classic. When this tourney was started by Steidel in the 70's, the purpose was to give the little guy a chance to compete knowing that the majority of Class A Schools would not end up at Rupp. Now, it has become more about sustaining financial levels. Fact is, NCC gets nothing out of a game with Villa, Heritage, Bellevue etc.

  11. Someone with the All A needs to get the correct info out there. I have seen 3 different brackets with different times and locations for Monday's games. Some have Dayton playing Newport at HC, some have them playing at Bellevue, and some have the NCC game listed as @ HC while others have it at Bellevue. Seems to be a simple thing to get it right. Don't miss your team.....better confirm the location. Even AllAClassic.org has incorrect data apparently.
