  1. Any other comments from either side on the Officiating ?

I saw the original video posted that shows the Belfry back go down, then stretch his arms out. At first I was under the impression that it was a bad call, then I saw the full play on WYMT and a fan made video on Twitter and it’s fairly clear that the player crossed the goal line and the line judge was signaling TD before the defense knocked the player back to the half yard line. A lot of the blame on bad officiating is based on a selectively cropped video being shared. Officials miss calls in every game but the one most in question in this game was called correctly.

  2. Belfry has been suffering from attendance issues for a few years now. Outside of the Pike County Bowl the radio guys are practically begging for people to fill the seats each week. Living in north Atlanta area makes it impassible for me but if I was still on Pond Creek I would have my family there every Friday night.

  3. As some of you may have seen I am working on a database of historical statewide information. I want to be as accurate as possible.

In compiling data I don't seem to have any information for Berea in 1990. Does anyone know if they fielded a team that year? I don't see them in the Litkenhous ratings for 1990 either so I assume they had no team but just want to be sure. Here is what I have for a 5-year time frame.

    1987 4-7 Class A Region 2 District 2

    1988 0-10 Class A R2 D2

1989 1-10 Did not compete in district play

    1990 no data

1991 0-9 Did not compete in district play

I have what I thought were complete standings for the 1990 season but the missing Berea worries me that I may have other missing data if they did indeed field a team in 1990.

  4. ATL,

Remind me to upload that Belfry spreadhseet I have (same as you have), and send it to you qith some of the additional tabs I calculated.

I started breaking it down as Belfry vs. Geographical Region and Belfry vs. Privates and so forth.

    Thanks!

Just send me a message on the book of faces or messenger and I will give you the email address you can send it to, or you can send it directly over messenger whatever works best for you.

  5. You are welcome to all the results I’ve compiled on my site: history.warproductionslive.com

It has the complete results for Bowling Green, Warren Central, Warren East, Greenwood, South Warren, Franklin-Simpson, and Allen Co.-Scottsville (I distinguish between Allen Co.-Scottsville and pure Allen County - Allen County has about five years before what I tracked).

Thank you so much! That is awesome work. I am keeping tracking of everyone who has offered up data so I can make sure they get proper credit once I get the site live.

  6. Well if/when you're interested, I have a list of all-time game results for Covington Catholic with the exception of two games: 1980 Cov Cath vs. Simon Kenton and 1989 Cov Cath vs. Dixie Heights. The 1980 game was postponed from a Saturday afternoon game to Sunday because of weather, and the 1989 game was a Saturday game as well, so they didn't get any coverage in the newspapers.

I most definitely want that data

  7. So is this just a personal project of yours? Or anything you're intending on publishing anywhere?

For what it's worth, I know @gchs_uk9 is a pretty good resource for a lot of the football playoff history in Kentucky.

Well long story incoming, as a software engineer and web developer I despise the KHSAA website (if anyone from KHSAA lurks around here, your website needs work it's not 2005 anymore :))

My goal is to compile all of the data I can and build a better alternative to what the KHSAA offers (football only). There are several resources on the web where you can find bits and pieces of information about different things but no one-stop-shop. I want to make that one-stop-shop available to everyone.

Currently, the database I am building has win-loss records, district win-loss records, playoff win-loss records, district standings, district titles, regional championships, state championships, runners up Class/Region/District/Subdistrict alignments, playoff brackets, playoff scores/results from 1987-present.

I also have some spreadsheets with full or almost full schedules and results for Belfry back to the 1920s, Tates Creek back to 1965, Highlands back to about 1915 or so, once I get the above data compiled my next goal will be to compile as much info as I can about each school individually.

I also plan to track each school's Litkenhous Rating, Pre and Post Season AP rankings, and any other rankings/ratings I can find.

I have several documents, newspaper articles, etc that will get me data farther back than that.

After all, that is done my next task will be to build out a database of statistics for teams and players.

Previously I ran the Belfryfootball.com website but had to shut it down due to foreign hackers trying to gain access daily. There was personal information about Belfry Alumni on the backend of the site where people had registered to keep up and I didn't want to compromise that private information to foreign entities. I loved running the site and digging into the history of KY HS FB was so much fun that I've been looking for a new hobby project since I shut it down and this seems to be the one that gets me most in gear.

    Bowling Green

    Rushing Yards: 130

    Passing: 0-14-2

    Passing Yards: 0

    Total Yards: 130

    Penalties: 7-79

Thanks! Looks like it must have been a pretty good defensive battle. Though looks like PT could have put it away in regulation if not for the flags.

  9. I originally tried to find some info on this game somewhere else, but the audience here at BGP is much larger, maybe I will have better luck, below is my original post on this game.

So I am working on a pretty big project to compile all KY HS football history into a single database and as I was working through 1989 I found what appears to be a gem of a game.

Someone who knows about this game please give me the skinny. I know from my research that going into this game that PT was considered 1st or 2nd in the class depending on what poll or rating you are looking at and Bowling Green was about 3rd.

What went down? Four overtimes and a final score of 7-6 on the books? So these two teams scored 27 (PT) and 49 (BG) in round 1 and held each other 0-0 for 7 quarters? Was it bad weather or just one hell of a defensive ball game?

  10. Any number crunchers out there? Could someone take last year's W-L records and calculate how last season 2018 records would work for RPI? We could see how teams were seeded last year and then we could see how it all played out. No I really dont expect anyone to do this, but I would be curious how it could have been a guide for this season. Alas, this would be above my brain grade.

There is a little guesswork here but I used 3A 2018 RPI as a testbed, using this year's playoff format with last year's districts and classes. When determining winners, I leaned toward the side of a repeat of real result if two teams met last year vs just guessing.

Regional seeding would have most likely been

    WEST

#4 Larue Co at #1 Boyle Co

    #3 Caldwell at #2 Central

    EAST

#4 Breathitt Co at #1 Corbin

    #3 Russell at #2 Belfry

    Semi-Final Reseeding would have been.

#4 Belfry at #1 Boyle Co

    #3 Central at #2 Corbin

So a #3 Central vs #1 Boyle Co State Title Game

I actually bracketed out the full playoff but the first two rounds being inter-district had no surprises.

  11. I think one think that is worth noting, that could point to an in house hire is that Scroggins says he will remain at Central as a teacher. Think about that for a moment. A new head coach with no affiliation to Central prior to being hired would have the arduous task of trying to build his program with a coaching Legend right down the hall, you know every move you make is going to be compared to how Scroggins did things and with him still in the school that will be very hard for SOME guys to handle. An internal hire doesn't have as much issue in that respect, because Scroggins is instantly seen as a resource first instead of a shadow.

  12. Truthfully, you can't call it a city at all. Just a small community that is part of the Pike Co government. A small dot on the map (but a big place in our hearts, lol)

I used "city" because I get ask "Where is that City" all the time here in the North ATL burbs when I am wearing my Belfry gear. I figured there may even be some in KY who think it must be a city or medium sized Town.

  13. As ATLCat stated the creek connects most of the community that form the Belfry fan base. The "City" of Belfry if you could call it that is very very tiny, if you look it up on Google maps the city proper is a small stretch that basically houses a gas station, post office, health department, fire dept and the original high school (now the middle school). The new high school resides just north of Belfry in South Williamson, KY. Pond Creek ties all these together, it runs behind the school and it and its tributaries pretty much run through all the areas that has kids who attend the High School.

You add in all that to the fact that people like ATLCat and myself follow the team yearly from far away and you have a situation where the name Pond Creek Nation truly identifies the Belfry fans.
