  1. As a general rule the assistant coach is not to be heard from. If you get one that starts yapping a bit you walk up to the head coach and say "Coach, I'll listen to you but not any assistants." At that point the bench has been warned and any subsequent complaints/outbursts will be a bench technical.

Now if an assistant knows how to approach you you give him courtesy. If an assistant calmly approaches your during a TO to ask a question or even tell you he thinks he you missed a call it's all good as long as he does it the right way. Sometimes you can communicate through the assistant to the head coach so you use them occasionally. A good official will not pay attention to the assistant coach who wants to get in your ear during a TO. You just act like you don't even know they're there. You don't go looking for problems.

Clyde.... thanks for your response, much appreciated. Will watch this play out the next time I see them play.

  2. It really depends where you go to college. The Major Universities most definately look at where these

students go to high school, as well as AP courses etc. I can assure you that major universities look at more than GPA's and ACT scores. Really depends on where you want to go, and do you have the overall qualifications to get into that university. You have to "sell yourself" and let them know what you can provide to the university. A top notch High School will provide you the opportunity for many options. They will prepare you, but (like you said), it is up to the individual to make it happen.

There are some Cincinnati high schools that I guarantee you, every university knows by name.

  3. Not to change the subject because it does involve the refs but....what is the rule (if any rule at all) regarding who (meaning coaches) can address the officials during play and at time outs? Obviously, the head coach can. But what about assistant coaches? Do the refs even have to acknowledge an assistant coach complaining during a time-out? Not naming assistant coach or team, but I notice a consistent pattern with a particluar assistant coach, and am wondering if an official even needs/ has to address an assistant coach? Do not know, just asking....

  4. USA Today Super 25 Expert Rankings 01/26/2015

Ballard is still undefeated in Kentucky, and their only losses came at the hands of Montverde High School out of Florida (currently #2 nationally according to USA Today), and St. John’s College High School out of Washington DC.

Ballard plays Doss tomorrow night. Tipoff is 7:30 at Ballard.

Yep....and they barely beat NewCath in Louisville 77-75 earlier this year. They are beatable.

  5. Not sure I am in agreement with this. So, if the same kids come to your house to watch a game, you would need to communicate to them not to jump on your furniture and pull the banisters off of the wall. Comes down to upbringing. These kids need to have better common sense and parents need to teach them better.

I agree that the kids should have better common sense and the parents need to teach them better.

Undoubtedly, neither of those thoughts work. The kids represent the school (both as players and as fans). My opinion, it is easier and more direct coming from the administration. Would not be surprised if the administration does not have more leverage than the parents do these days (generally speaking).

  6. There was no student section for the Bombers when CCH visited. Must just show up for GCL games.

Probably home studying. Compare student sections? Head to the new Nippert for the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. Cov Cath and StX in football this year. Compare for yourself. Point of my response earlier, is that if this is as big a problem as it is some are saying, the school officials need to be contacted ( not only Cov Cath ) and then it is up to the schools to deal with their students. Pretty simple to me.

  7. CCH has the biggest and the best of all Cheer sections, that we know. But it pales to most college sections and they do the same thing. Nothing is intentional. It is just part of the game. Everywhere basketball is played the students stand on the bleachers, why would anyone expect the BOK to be different. If they don't like it stop it. Don't cancel events.

...biggest and best in NKY. They do not compare to the Elder, StX students. FYI, those student jump also, but it is not on the seats. It's mostly on the concrete floor of the stands; wood floor as well...not the seats. Simple to handle, if this did happen, the BOK needs to contact Cov. Cath. (and others schools if need be) and make it clear what the students can and cannot do. Then it is up to the school officials to make sure the students understand. They can still cheer, and have fun, just not on the seats. Communication people.

  8. Interesting to read what everyone thinks. I also was at courtside Friday night. Very simply, the Colonels played tough defense, and the Breds had a difficult time handling it. Too many turnovers, missed FT's etc. I was surprised at how the officials "let them play". But that's where you have to adapt to how they are calling the game. To me, it's just one game, and probably will benefit NCC more. The All A is starting, and that loss should serve as a wake up call for the 'Breds. Fridays game is over...a thing of the past. You can learn from it, but don't dwell on it. Only thing that really surprised me was how the Cov Cath assistants were constantly trying to work the officials. Officials owe no explanation to any assistant coach period. Officials should be talking to the head coach only. It really look silly. These assistant coaches need to get a life; it's not about them.

  9. Look, I'm not trying to pee anybody off keeping track of CC. Some of you keep track of the GCL in Ohio and post it on here. Nobody has a problem talking about Elder on here. It's not about a team from Florida, it's not about them being great or even good for that matter, it's about two teams that played with class on a perfect day. The coach wrote an Email saying that a team from KY has more class than a lot of teams from Miami.

This CC team has gone deep into the playoffs, with Highlands hanging with them in that game, it makes KY football (not HHS) look that much better.

It's great that people from all over the country have positive comments, not about HHS, but KY. This thread is talking about positive things in KY high school football. If you don't like this thread, you could go to the thread talking about "cheap shots." I forgot that thread got locked out.

JB...well said. A few weeks back I saw the Colerain-StX playoff game. StX QB goes down in 4th

Qtr with concussion (ending season). Both Coaches were on the field talking with each other, and as the game ended, were hugging each other. Respect for each other, their teams, and the schools.

I know where you are coming from in respect to Highlands and C. Columbus. We actually need more of this in HS football.

  10. Wow... Highlands played them and that is all I need to know??? Listen.... I grew up in Ft. Thomas so don't tell me about Highlands football. I have watch them since the late 50's my friend, so don't try and intimidate me. I get the fact that there are ties between them and Highlands. Nice story (and I mean that sincerely). Not a Highland's hater guys; love good HS football. You need to take a deep breath. IMO, as I said before, they are a good team, but not a Florida elite team like STA, Miami Central etc (my opinion).

  11. What is the big deal with Christopher Columbus??? They play in Florida's 8A....big deal. Overall in Florida, they are ranked 15th (all divisions).

Florida powers are IMG (Freelance) , St. Thomas Aquinas (7A), Miami Booker T. Washington(4A) , Miami Central (6A) etc. How good is C. Columbus? They lost to 6A Miami Central by 4 TD's (42-14). Source (CalPreps) take a look. They are a good Florida team, but that's it... good.

Not great Florida team. In fact, they are ranked 5th in 8A (CalPreps).

  12. Crable was starter from Day 1, as stated before. X QB Sean Clifford's third concussion of the year against Colerain certainly hurt. His running ability would have made a difference. I wish the Crusaders good luck against Wayne. Remember, Moeller had less than 200 yds of total offense against X,

and X was in the Red zone 3 or 4 times...with 0 points. Common sense, Clifford would have made a difference. As for the Wayne game this Saturday, Moeller is going to have to play better offensively, because Wayne will definately move the ball. Should be a very entertaining game.

Food for thought next year....all the schools that have starting underclass QB's coming back, Colertain, Elder, Moeller, StX etc. WOW

  13. Malibu.... here is the difference. Ohio has over 700 schools, so the Cleveland and Cincy privates can play each other, other top Ohio teams, or schedule outside the state. Kentucky has only 221 teams in 6 classes, so IMO they have a more limited selection as to who they play. Example,

NCC having to play (and they have for the last several yeras) 3-4-5 Class 6A schools. But in KY, that does not matter, because only their District 3 or 4 games matter. So you could go 3-0 in your district, lose all 7 other games, and be # 1 seed with a 3-7 record. (happened a couple years ago with Campbell County. Hard for me to understand a system where not all the games count. And a system that allows 0-10, 1-9 teams in the playoffs. I believe if they reduced the number of Classes, yes you may have the same "quality" programs continuing to win titles, but it would afford teams the opportunity to play more games against teams in their class. No reason why a 2A team should have to "fill" almost half their schedule with 6A teams. I know NCC has had success against NoKy 6A teams in the past, but is that because NCC was that good, or the 6A teams were crappy. I would venture to say, if a 2A school had the opportunity to play mostly 2A schools during the regular season, they would prefer to do so.

Bottom line: the regular season in KY means NOTHING. 87% of the teams make the playoffs (even if they do not win a game). I believe having fewer classes affords teams a bigger choice of playing schools their size, and would make for more competitive regular season games.

  14. Colonel...certainly not argueing what you are saying. I look at the entire state of Ky, and on a state level, would rather watch Trinity, Lou. StX, Male etc then watch NoKy football (state level mind you). But let's face it, No Ky football, for the most part, has it's Have's and Have Not's. And it very seldom changes. It's Highland's in 4A, Beechwood in 1A, New Cath in 2A, and this year Dixie, Simon Kenton in 6A. The story never changes IMO.

The only 'competitive' Class is 6A this year (No. Kentucky speaking). Don't people get tired of the same story every year? I guess not. But it could be changed. Look at Ohio...this is the second year of 7 Divisions (7th created because in the Big School Division) the bottom half complained that they could not compete with top half. So they broke it up and the bottom half is now D2.... and everyone else move down one Division. I agree with you... Ky should consider a 4 class system. 221 teams in 6 classes just feeds the saying: rich gets richer; poor get poorer.

  15. Colonel Don....you can substract as many as you want. OKAY take out Holmes and Harrison Co (combined 2-20). Lets see also, let take out 2-9 Boyd Co for HHS, and 1-10 Boone Co for CovCath. My point: the way the KHSAA classifications are constructed, you are going to have this happen every year. In Ky, you have the 3-4 "top teams" in each class, and the rest of the 28- 32 teams are average at best.

IMO, fewer classes (from 6 to 4) would actually expand the number of teams in the new classifications, which would allow teams to schedule more games within that new classification. 2A New Cath would not be playing 4 or 5, 6A schools. SOS to me is a teams schedule from top to bottom.

In the case of CovCath and Highlands (since you eliminated the bottom 2) lets eliminate the top 2 (record wise as well)....and what does that leave, and very average .500 schedule. Hard for me to call that a strong SOS. Just an opinion. I hate the 6 class system in Ky.(not enough teams in Ky to justify 6 classes) and keep it competitive. The rich get richer; the poor get poorer. Why can't people see that?

  16. Guys just look at the facts. Comparisons regarding SOS. (Calpreps)

    Ohio: StX...SOS 51.2 95-46

    KY: Trinity..SOS 46.8 109-31

    Cov Cath....SOS 16.3 71-67

    Highlands...SOS 14.4 66-70

Cov. Cath may have the highest SOS in KY 4A, but that means nothing when you look at the National perspective. Hard for me to understand how teams Cov. Cath. (opps record 71-67) and Highlands (opps record 66-70) can talk about SOS. Facts do not lie. Trinity, Lou. StX and the GCLS teams all play very difficuly schedules. It does not matter if they have an experienced team or a very young team, they play the best they can find.

More fun and interesting to watch teams play "quality" teams week in and week out, as opposed to playing 1, maybe 2 quality teams as most Ky schools do (Trinity, Lou. StX the exceptions). Remember, in KY - only your 3-4 District game counts....so it should be fairly easy to step-up and play a few more quality teams during the season. Most Ky schools do not want to do that. When only certain games on your schedule actually count (District games) why not schedule up. All games should count like Ohio does IMO.
