  1. Going to have to respectively disagree. If you would like to compare rosters of Midland, Flames, Chiefa with a legion roster, and look at where those kids are committed, it shoots holes in your arguement. Actually, it sinks it.

It doesn't sink anything bc it doesn't speak to my argument at all. Of course their rosters are full of those guys but that's not why their getting looks. They were that good before they started playing on those teams, and they would've been looked at regardless if they were on those rosters. Just bc they're committed to schools doesn't mean they wouldn't have committed to the same schools if they played somewhere else or just played high school. Can you name one D1 recruit that didn't get a scholarship only bc he didn't play for a team like that? No their talent would do that for them regardless. If you have a terrible hs coach with zero connections then by all means go for it, but it shouldn't be looked at as a must. And btw I was just using legion as an example. It could be any similar organization.

  2. I'm not saying don't play summer ball. College is a 56 game daily grind and they need to continue playing. I'm saying American Legion can do the same thing and get you looks for little money. Being a retired college coach I can tell you they hate the "pay to play" system more than anyone and they really despise the type of play it usually consists of. I know of several kids who missed out on scholarships due to how their summer team was ran and the way it made that player look. It is a very selfish system and no coach is going to bring a kid in that has gotten use to that atmosphere.

  3. The summer programs are a must for D1 talent now days, but northern KY doesn't have many. If they have even halfway of a descent hs coach they can get looks. The only reason they attend those summer games is bc they are mostly in season at the same time high school is. Once their through with the college season a good coach can get players looks without having to bankroll a summer team, especially if they play a good schedule and go deep in the post season.

  4. Now wait a minute-they may have a smaller area to pull from. I don't know, but then they also can accept paying tuition students from outside of their area if the students inside of their area do not fill that particular class to capacity. In that, I do see an advantage for the independents over the public schools.

Not to add onto this rediculous argument but if all that is true, then why aren't schools like Pikeville Independent winning state every year? Not only do they have all turf, their independent, located in one of if not the largest county in state(which would give them pick of the best athletes, and not too mention play in one of the weakest regions in the state?

  5. As a St. Henry grad and former player, it baffles me that the condition of the ballfield continues to decline. Do we not remember Fox field, folks?! In fact, the Reds were supposed to host a fantasy camp game there this past Saturday but the game was rained out. I asked a St. Henry official how it could be rained out when the school has a tarp? He replied they never use it because it's too much work and they don want to run the risk of killing the grass if they don't get enough help to remove it. Sad.

That's another reason why I hope they hire someone with experience. It takes years to learn how to properly maintain a field and how to do it. Proof of that is how it has deteriorated during this carousel of coaches. As far as the field tarp goes, that's embarrassing. I've seen high school teams put-on and takeoff full infield tarps in under fifteen minutes. There's no excuse. I'm sure there are hundreds of schools that would kill to have that tarp. It use to be a prerequisite that to host a sectional tournament you had to have a full infield tarp, and I think that is originally why they got it. It has the potential to be one of the better fields around but you can't leave it alone for 7 months out of the year and expect it to magically be the same when you come back on it. Details is what makes great programs and details we do not have right now.

  6. I'm aware of St. Henry's former district, and their foes. That's why I mentioned it in my thread. Lloyd was also in the 33rd during the 80's and into the mid 90's. Another strong baseball program to contend with at the time.

St. Henry likely would have won a few more districts in the late 80's, 90's, and 00's (feel better?) in their current district. But, they still would have had to contend with Dixie each year for a title. Dixie is one of the most consistent programs in the area, so that would have never been a gimmie.

From the outside looking in, St. Henry's program has certainly appeared stronger. But even in those years, it's not like they were on the cusp of regional dominance. They were good, and a contender to make the regional each year. Kinda like they are now.

Considering Dixie has only one regional title in the last 15 years, it wouldn't have been that difficult. They are consistent. I will give you that. You can count on a 20-win season every year. Who does that really help? The coach mainly. I'd give up one of those 20 win seasons for a title any day. There was a couple seasons where it was close to thirty wins and they couldn't get out of the district. That's more consistent on the other end of the spectrum. I think not only Dixie, but the entire 9th region needs to do abetter job expanding to the rest of the state for more exposure.

  7. I know some younger, first time head coaching candidates from the area that have applied... Unfortunately, I was asked not to mention names, so I won't...

Someone outside the area may be a good idea for St Henry though.

I guess it all depends on what type of attention gets paid to the program? First time head coach could mean another carousel of coaches that come and go once something better comes along. If they have the opportunity to hire someone with no political ties that has experience, I hope they jump on it. Being a parent of one of the players, I really hope they shy away from an unestablished coach or a dad. Dads can be beneficial on an assistant level at-best, but never for a head coach. It has the potential to be a good solid program with the right person.
