I think Henderson Co. would be pretty similar to Christian Co.   Of course their city and county schools consolidated decades ago.  Fairly sure that they are one of the largest public schools in the state.

And how has that worked out for them? Not being mean, but Henderson hasn't done a whole lot on the football front for being one of the largest schools in the state.

There is definitely a push from the top to consolidate County and Hoptown, and it looks like it will definitely happen. Mostly for academic, financial, and equity reasons. I don't think the locals should be expecting championships in 6A, that's a whole different ball game than 4 and 5A.

  2. Hoptown's in a tough position here. There is a lot of uncertainty as to what is going to happen with the consolidation of CCHS and HHS. Coach Babb, a standout player back in the day at CCHS, was the long time assistant head coach for Tim Hayworth. The last four years (before Babb took the head girls job) they went 123-17, four straight regional championships, three final fours, and a state title game.  Doesn't mean he'll have anywhere near that much success, but he's been part of a very successful culture at HHS.

  3. The fact of the matter is that the Mr. Football ward is, at its core, an offensive award. The only winner in the group of 33 winners who was more or less exclusively a defensive player was Dennis Johnson from Harrodsburg, back in 1997. Also the only lineman (defensive or offensive) to win the award.

You're right...defensive stats can be heavily skewed by opponents shifting their offensive game away from a defensive stud.

I would add Micah Johnson (Ft Campbell, 2005) to that list, played some fullback, but he made his bones playing linebacker and was outstanding. Still a couple of defensive players out of 33 isn't many.

  4. Wasn't that close. Hoptown scored a td as the final horn sounded. Maroons had two players rush for over a hundred yards. Also had 6 takeaways.

Hoptown had 7 turnovers and looked completely out of sorts. North Hopkins definitely came to play and Hoptown didn't, they never matched the Maroons intensity.

Not sure what to make of this Hoptown team, they've improved each game up until this one, and definitely regressed. They've played and tough schedule leading into the district but it hasn't seemed to help them.
