  1. Please tell us more?

If you follow AAU girls basketball you can see that there's very little in the pipeline coming up through Boone. This seems the same in several sports not just girls basketball. Other than a couple decent boys players? I think Boone girls basketball is at least 6-7 years away from ever even playing in a district final regardless of who coaches.

    Job is open.

Boone has been hit hard the last 20 years by the rise of Ryle then Cooper. Feeders aren't producing that much talent for Boone. Both boys and girls have fallen squarely in the basement at the moment in that district.

Hydra / Seven - Agree completely with both of you in your summations of the difficulty of this traditionally great job. As a HOF Coach Fookes with her experience brought the best out of players and maybe out coached the other teams in the district. This is going to be a tough district Conner, Ryle on the rise Cooper has 3 potential College Players in their starting 5 next year, all of these schools getting more kids with new housing going up that Boone is not drawing from.

  2. So an aspiring young basketball coach gets what has traditionally been a great head coaching job and she is giving up the job after one year and seeking a different teaching job?

That makes no sense at all...

We can all speculate as much as we want but this was a tough position for any potential coach to step into. Thought the coach did a fine job with the team last year as a young first year coach. Let's be realistic this was a traditionally great job but not anymore. If a better teaching position came along and the decision was to explore it, Good for her. Why does it need to be more than that?

  3. Correct 8 kids last year, 4 will graduate this year one of those girls will be Olivia Stokes.

OC, I didn't say anything about strength of the team returning. My comment stated that I think BW will field a team next year. That team will consist of 4 returning players including Ally Johnson, Kimi Stokes, Laney Sullivan, Maddie Stokes possibly 3 Freshman Joclyn Stokes, Mar Johnson, Cameron Johnson and some other girls who have played in the past may come back for their senior years.

  4. I don't see them cancelling the program this year. While it may not be ideal they do have at least 4 Girls from last years team returning and 3 girls from 8th grade who will be freshman next year. Could also have 2-4 girls who may return to the program for their senior years who have played previously for the Tigers.

  5. Maybe i am confused, but I am pretty sure that the varsity coach at the program where you coached, applied for this job. And, it would seem reasonable, that if the coach got the job, you would be part of the staff. If you wouldn't, fine.

On the idea of having varsity experience, I don't think it is a necessity. There are plenty of qualified coaches, who have coached games outside of a HS team. Whether you are coaching HS or little league, you still have parent issues, grade issues, commitment issues, player issues, political issues, and basketball strategy issues. Besides, every HS coach was a "rookie" at some point, and got hired without coaching a HS game.

I have no idea who applied and who didn't apply. My question simply asked if any of the Bluegrasspreps front runners had any Varsity experience. "Do any of the front runners have varsity experience?" There are a lot of qualified candidates for coaching positions who don't have Varsity experience. Guess that would be up to the AD to decide if that was important.

I really don't care who gets the job, but if they wanted to talk to me about being on their staff I would take that as a compliment.. Please contact me at Jtru here at BluegrassPreps and let me know when I start.. :)

  6. Man, looks like the all the coaches and sports writers in the state "don't have an eye for talent" either. Since they would rather have Harris and Schwartz over Held and Johnson too.

    Politics..

I did like the way Harris played during Holmes Regional and State tournament run. Wishing her the very best at Lindsey Wilson.

But lets look at stats as a way to compare and take into account Harris, Schwartz played 4-6 more games in their numbers.

    Games, 2pts scored, 3pts scored,Free Throws,Total Pts, Avg.

    Schwartz, Mallory

    31 97 31 73 360 11.6

    Harris, Jynea

    32 119 35 125 468 14.6

    Held, Lexi

    27 115 44 117 479 17.7

    Johnson, Allison

    26 79 71 99 470 18.1

    Let's look head to head

    Schwatz 7 - Johnson 17

    Schwatz 24 - Held 24

    Harris 33 - Johnson 33

    Harris 13 - Held 6

This show my 2 are just as good if not better. They still have time to mature and get better as both Harris, Schwatz are seniors and Held,Johnson are underclassmen.

  7. I guess you & your head coach (your boss) are disappointed that you guys aren't considered a front runner in this process? Varsity "experience" is overrated. Plenty of qualified candidates that have never coached a HS game.

Not sure what your referring too.. I think you may have me confused with some one else..

  8. Sorry but the talent from Turkeyfoot is already at Dixie and struggling. Dixies best shot at winning in the regionals is next year with Davis and Brock returning. However the word is one if not both are transferring.

Davis would be a loss to the team. Believe the program could handle the loss of Brock plenty of younger girls could play her role as a shooting guard. The best option for seniors is to stay put where you are, could be a valuable lesson about the grass isn't greener somewhere else. I hope this is a rumor for the players sake..

  9. CC losing two seniors going on to play at the college level is tough on the team. They do have two very good players in Schwarber and Clos and Keeton will be a name to watch next season.

CC avg. 67 points a game this year, the 5 seniors average 37 points. So CC is losing roughly 49% of it's offense and your expecting them to make it up with bunch of untested JV/underclassman. That's a lot of points for coach Menafee to have to coach up next year. This years team had such good balance that it was hard for other teams to slow one or two players down as the others on the court picked them up. That's going to be harder to do with next year. Teams are not going to fear anyone coming off that bench and they will game plan around Clos and Schwaber.

Have also heard that Menafee is not a big fan of the Keeton girl and has set some unrealistic expectation on her for the summer. She could certainly help them rebounding, defensively and at one point in her career she was a pretty good outside shooter/scorer.

SCOTT - Played large portions of their season with out Holly and Tori due to injuries, a lot of other girls got Varsity minutes. The Eagles will have an easier time replacing their seniors than their district rival.

Mason - A little prescriptive, maturity and chip on their shoulder. If they go about their business and don't get caught up in the hype/expectations. They are the most dangerous team in this region talent depth coaching.

  10. I think CC losing 3/5 of their starting line up, including their leading scorer, 5/8 Varsity only players loses a little more than a couple contributors. The new girls may be filling roles but next years team will only have 3 players with any significant Varsity experience. They still make the regional tournament but only because the rebuild at Brossart is a couple of years away and finishing second in District should be obtainable. CC would have to be considered a real dark horse to win next year against Mason, Scott and GRC.. all of whom return most of their starters. (Mason 5/5, Scott 4/5, GRC 4/5)

  11. Outside of the top 4 teams (Mason County, Scott, CC, GRC) this is a pretty Blah Regional for it's opening round of games. Looking forward to the Semi- Final games after all the enjoy the experience regional teams have gotten to do just that.

Those top 4 teams would not have been looking forward to having Bracken County come up as their opening round game.

  12. Lots of discussion since I was here last, wow! Is the Igo commenter serious? I have seen her play, and no way she's a star/top player on Bracken, Mason or Campbell. She's a good player, but her stats are a product of everything being run offensively through her. Her percentages are all below average - 25% 3pt, 42% fg, 66% ft. And 3.7 rebounds per game? She's a great player for 8th grader, but having D1 interest isn't D1 offers. Let's see what she's doing in 2020 and leave it at that. - Hydraman

Be very careful on this one if she stays health and dedicated Igo will be a very special player with plenty of D1 offers.

  13. Sorry forgot to quote.

Well what do you know? Schwartz POY... There must be a lot of people out there who have such a "terrible eye for talent". I affirmed Davenport and Johnson should be in the top 10-15 girls. Disagree with Davenport getting POY, but that's just my opinion. I'm completely ok with others who think she deserved it though - she's a great player.

But just because I had Schwartz and a few others ahead of Davenport and Johnson I was such an idiot. Maybe your a parent and that's why you got so mean. Maybe let people have their opinions and be ok with everyone not agreeing with you on every issue?

No parental ties involved, your picks are good kids/good players. All of these kids are all top of the line type of people who's parents have done an amazing job. However, if I'm a coach, I'm not game planning around the players on your list or staying up at night.

My top 10 players from NKY only[/b] in 8,9,10 region. No particular order but I'll take this team over your team.

    Stapleton - Scott

    Clephane - Scott

    Englemon - Holmes

    Martin - NDA

    Davenport - NCC

    Held - Cooper

    Schwarber - CC

    Johnson - Beechwood

    Niece - Simon Kenton

    Schultz - Brossart

    Next 5

    Meirer - SK

    Saner - Boone

    Bohannon - Lloyd

    Clos - CC

    Kramer - CC

  14. Lots of discussion since I was here last, wow! Is the Igo commenter serious? I have seen her play, and no way she's a star/top player on Bracken, Mason or Campbell. As far as Johnson and Davenpirt, I don't care enough to look into the 9th region details. Please don't read into comments, I never said they wouldn't start for CC or MC. Just wouldn't be the top player. I have seen all the girls discussed play (school and aau). I'm entitled to my opinion and there are girls I believe to be better all around players. I will concede RCC9's points on Johnson, it was a good argument, i possibly saw bad games she had. However I don't agree fully with his overall assessment compared to others. I would take a few more girls over Johnson still (Harris, Lange, Schwartz, Saner) than his list has (but I wouldn't take Held). But overall I agree Johnson should be in the discussion for POY, looks like I have six girls I like better. I realize this might change our discussion, but I see the POY award fully as the best player in the region, not the most valuable to their team.

Davenport is a good player but IMHO she is not as good as the other players I listed. Adler is a better shooter. Leigh is a better rebounder. And those two are better more than the better PG type play Davenport brings, in my opinion. Ansley is a great player, she would be in my top 20 players in the whole 9th region, just not my top 10. I've seen her play plenty, it's just my opinion.

If the 10th allowed all ages to get the POY award I would have T.Clos, Frodge and O'Mara in the running. But with seniors only my list I see Bailey as the front runner -

    Cummins

    Jolly

    Schulz

    Kramer

You've said enough for any one with an eye for talent to know you don't have one.. Lexi Held and Ally Johnson over Harris, Lange, Schwartz, Saner everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Cummings is the POY of the 10th this year.

  15. Well the first game Johbson was defended by one person and had six points...This past game she was not guarded by that player. ... I won't EVER BITE into who's the best to save the drama for myself.. I just know who is capable of stopping ball the more than others and those numbers don't lie.. Of course No ones 100 % at stopping. But HC does have a player who is vey capable, puts on pressure and is extremely fast, but no credit is ever given to this kid... The Last game that same player guarded K.Stokes who had 2 points I believe?! Which is also unusual as Stokes is the second leading scorer right?! That's just my observation though. Again, no drama for me. It's Sunday and I prefer to relax today.

Your post said HC needed their best defender to stop the other teams best shooter. In the past 2 games that defender has given up 29 and 28 points to Beechwood and NDA best Shooters. Then in the response to who is HC best defender, you said it was the girl who held Johnson to 6 of her teams 30 points the first game but HC shifted her over to K. Stokes who was help to 2 points the second game? No drama just trying to follow your posting.

  16. If statistics were how the POY awards were given out then Whitney Creech would be given the Naismith (POY for the US) award hands down. But she's not good enough to play at a top 20 college...

When Bracken faces top competition Baileys stats are limited, percentages are lower (these type of players just shoot more than anyone else). The Beechwood girl has the same thing happen. I think the 9th has it worse. The top players on NCC and Beechwood are not nearly as good players as the top players on Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA's teams.

Hold on a minute, first this is a 10th region thread and your addressing 9th region players. Have you watched any 9th region games to make this type of comment Davenport NCC and Johnson Beechwood trust me I've watched a lot of 9th region and 10th region games this year and they are not only the best players on their current teams but would be the 1 of the top players if not the top player on any of the above teams you've listed. I would go as far as saying that they would also be the one of the top if not the top player on Campbell County or Mason County teams as well and yes I've watched both Campbell and Mason multiple times this year as well. If you want to by by stats then check out Johnson's shooting percentage 48% on 2point, 47.7 from 3point, 89.9 Ft. so if she is getting shut down I don't know who is doing it. If I'm coaching Beechwood I'm telling her to shoot more..
