  1. So does anyone really know how these teams were selected- since, as mentioned, not every team from the 9th is represented?

I think the coaches from each respective school ask to be put in. If it fits into their schedule and such. I'd assume if a school isn't in the tournament, one reason may be because there was already a regular season game scheduled that day.

  2.

For what it is worth, this district match up meant nothing for the district seeding which has already been determined. I am not saying that made any difference on this outcome. I just thought it was interesting. It was basically a meaningless district game.

A meaningless district game? If Walton would have won, SK still would have been in the number 1 spot? Wouldn't that mean they each have 1 loss in the district, to each other?

  3. Agreed that this game has no effect on regional rankings and zero impact on on seeding or qualification for region/districts. But after watching the game film if you think this game was about rankings then you missed the best part of this game and its story!!!

This game was an old fashion grudge match. Between off the court friendships, AAU teammates, county rivalries, past histories, bragging rights and an undefeated season on the line there were more plot lines to follow than a season of The Bachelor. And the best part is the intensity of the game matched that from the opening tip off to the final buzzer. The top players for both teams brought it for this game and to the refs credit they controlled the game but also let them play. Fouls broke down almost evenly but what made the difference was where the fouls took place on the court.

Agreed. SHS came to play it seems and SK did not do what they typically do. There has definitely been a rebirth of a great rivalry here. It was a knock down, drag out grudge match...this is what makes sports fun!

  4. Congrats to the Lady Eagles and tough loss for the SK Pioneers, but they will become a stronger team from this. I would assume that it wasn't the referees' fault that they lost either. Seems like the Eagles have adapted their philosophy to be more team-centered instead of player-centered, which is definitely paying off for them, that's awesome! Kudos to the Eagles. Good luck to both the teams for the rest of the season.

  5. It's a computer-ranking system ran by the Lexington Herald Leader (similar to the Litkenhous of the Courier-Journal).

Not an arbitrary human vote by any means.

Record, strength of schedule and point differential (close losses and blowout wins help) all play a factor. Games against non-KY teams do not count (because it's hard to rate them).

Thanks! I appreciate it. I guess Highlands has a bigger point differential and/or strength of schedule than HC? I've seen HC play, they're pretty good.

  6. Well thats sound like another SK excuse to me. But I did not respond about HHS. My question was about the Lady Bulldogs. Which is Holmes last time I ckecked because I know HHS are the Lady Bluebirds.

Doesn't Highlands High School and Holmes High School have the same initials? Or am I mistaken in my Highlands High School (HHS) and Holmes High School (HHS) being the same? Sorry I responded to the post about Lady Bulldogs, so I assumed anyone that read it would consider HHS to be Holmes High School. My apologies. My assumption was incorrect.

Sorry everyone, HHS meant Holmes High School in my original post! ;-)
