  1. Who is the girls basketball coach? Why was it a bad hire?

Don Irvine, from Burgin. He retired from there few years back before returning to basketball at Western Hills last year, and then got the job at GC. I don't know if it was a good hire or a bad hire either, I just don't see why you hire somebody that has retired? Irvine is a great guy from what I have seen (never talked to him). GC just needs coaching consistency in all of it's positions. A coach that will be there for 8+ years.

  2. Paul Mullins will be involved. There isn't a more sports minded Super in the state, I can promise you that.

As CKY Kid also pointed out, he knows how to get things done on the academic end, too.

I think those close to the athletic programs, in particular football, will also tell you that there has been a very welcomed & 180 degree change in athletic and just overall support since Mullins was hired in July, too.

Kalem Grasham, which I'm sure you know, is also a very sports/football minded principal. Having played at Lincoln County under Larry Phillps and Marty Jaggers, being part of state finalist teams and playing some at Campbellsville University....he knows what's up and what to look for

I'm not doubting one bit of what you are saying about the past. Sounds like a lot of issues across the state to be honest...very similar to more places than any of us care to want to know; but, there is a new sheriff in town and we all know what that can do. Even with this change, it takes time....but, I hear things are off to a good start.

So you just gonna leave us hanging with that last sentance Doyle? C'mon spill the beans!

  3. Of course, there are boosters and parents, but I don't know that there is anyone who gives enough time or money to the program to have any reasonable expectation to help choose the next coach.

I am sure that the Admin would listen to any suggestions, but at the end of the day, they are going to choose who THEY want, I would think.

You're right, but the admin has tried doing it their way in the past, and have passed on some very good coaches. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expeting the same result.

  4. I don't know who these people are that you are talking about putting "lots of money" into the program. From my understanding, there aren't a lot of big donors to the program. The community has always done a good job of supporting schools/athletics, but there aren't any deep-pocketed benefactors supporting GC Football, as far as I know.

Well I know who I've talked to, and of course their aren't (deep pocketed) donors, but they invest a lot of money and time into the program. Even if they donate $1, that still helps. Doesn't have to be $1million.

  5. My concern with Bourbon is if the realignment plays out the way I've seen it. Bourbon road to state got a lot tougher.

You're right. Maybe Hodge sees that and that makes the Boyle job a better situation. (never thought I would say Bourbon could possibly be a better job than Boyle). I know John and his family personally and he loves this area...(Boyle/Garrard) area. Only time will tell right?

  6. If my opinion is worth anything, (which my wife says it never is)...I think it will be a new name that not a lot of people around the BC area know about. Of course I would love to see my buddy John Hodge get the job, but he is setup so well at Bourbon that I don't know if he would leave? Horse farm money flowing in, and plenty of transfers, he seems pretty happy. Who knows though? I've seen crazier things happen! One thing we know for sure, is this will be exciting to watch.
