  1. Thanks......Also who were the 2 boone pitchers from the last couple years who were really good. I thought they both are playing somewhere????

Boone Co’s Trey Ganns was drafted out of NKU and is in the Boston organization and Jeff Purnell is at Morehead. Was a career ending injury the reason Rasior is still not playing? Heard he was out last season due to surgery and rehab . Also , Cooper had a couple of pitchers in the 2016 class listed as playing at the next level. One was Hunter Turner and their ace that year ( name?) was rumored to be headed to Florida Gulf Coast but never saw any local kids listed on roster.

  2. Those same calls went against Cooper in the entire first half. In that same 3rd qtr you are talking about the refs, Boone extended it's lead to the largest of the game so you can blame the refs if you want to but I would like think Cooper's defensive intensity picked up from a halftime adjustment to make the comeback. The difference is that one team adjusted to the refs and one team (or coach) didn't. Heck, Sully even got a technical for simply waving off a ref and Boone pushed the lead to 12 with the ball. And to your perfect world comment, I would say had Cooper had it's 30+ points it was missing from 2 of it's starters the outcome may not have been in question....early.

Boone had Cooper right where they wanted them and didn't finish and you can't blame the refs for a few bad calls in one period to squander a 12 point lead.

Mr. Sixer, The calls I was questioning was after the big lead. I would agree the two missing would of put up their numbers but that would of taken away from the points scored by others. My only wish is that refs based their calls on the game not on who they feel should be winning based on the past accomplishments . i remember questioning a ref about calls after a Cov Cath game where a lower rank team was getting screwed on calls the whole game. It was so bad , I thought the refs would be in line getting autographs after the game . I asked the ref about certain calls . His answer to me was that the lower ranking team was so disarray , they wasn't going to get a call.

  3. I was at the game. It was a great battle but it was one of those games where I would love to see a video replay of it . As in another post on this thread, I question the officiating in the third quarter . There was a stretch of time in the 3rd where Boone's lead was diminished . During this time , there was tackles, chops, no calls and topped off with a play where Cooper's 35 plowed over a player and Boone's 35 ended up with a foul against him. I know no game is called perfect but in a perfect world Boone wins this game.

  4. Anyone have a box score? Q says 10 Ks for Rom in the last 5 and I'm pretty sure Dreves had at least 4 in the 1st 2 IP. That would be at least 14 of the 21 outs.

Leadoff walks in the 1st 3 innings were the biggest knock on the pitching.

#11 for Conner had both hits they secured.

#11 is Tim Sherman . He had one heck of a senior season. Don't know final stats but I would say he finished near the top in the region in batting avg. somewhere over .400
  5. Maybe I am in the minority on this, but wondering what others think. IMO a High School catcher should be able to call 85-90% on his own and not require the coach to tell him what to call. At a recent JV game it was so annoying to me to have to wait for the Boone County coach to look at his paper, think and then call out a number, catcher look at his wristband, and then signal for EVERY pitch. This slowed the game down even more. A catcher should know what to call on the first pitch to the first batter of the fifth inning when the guy steps to the plate for the third time in the game. At least IMO. Thoughts?
I bet the batter never saw the same sequence of pitches the whole game . It is early season , I'm sure the system will get quicker as the season goes along . One positive, You witnessed one of the best/ smartest pitch callers in NKY .
  6. Highlands seems to have strong pitchers every season. Do they have a pitching coach who knows his stuff or is it just talented kids who get better on their own by playing on good summer teams with knowledgeable staffs / private lessons or all of the above.I know several HS teams that have " pitching coaches" but really don't have the ability or knowledge to teach

  7. Showcases like PBR can be a positive if the player has good measurables like velocity, bat speed , 60 yd speed, etc but if the players doesn't show well , it could be a negative. I feel PBR is a plus. Getting the players name out there is a must. Earlier the better. Most colleges have recruitment questioners on their website . It doesn't hurt to start filling these out for all levels of play. It shows you are interested in their school, gets the player on mailing list for upcoming showcases/ camps the school might have coming up and gets the name out there.

  8. It also says " request your invite" . Most of the field requested their invite. If a kid is interested in playing college ball, PBR showcases is a great tool to see where the kid stacks up with other players across the state and gives college recruiters a reliable source to get the players measurables . Playing on a good quality summer team who competes in high quality tourneys is almost a must if the player is interested in playing high level college ball.
