  1. Dont know and really dont care, that very topic is being discussed in another thread. This is about a discussion of D-Bob and not him or NewCath and there in lies the whole problem with all his Hating imo...:thumb:

This is a Highlands thread about their QB and again NewCath's rendition of UKfan just can't help himself.

He has made a fool of himself everytime he posts in a Highlands thread. This time he attacks a HS kid credibility and character...

He has actually gone so overboard with his attacks that even a trip to the Principals office is even beneath him...Just sayin

Thankyou Mr Righteous! I guess your the bluebird version of UKfan? No disrespect to to you UKfan!

  2. I believe there is a pretty good football player not playing that could be helping the Baby Breds... I heard part of it might have something to do with a certain someone.....hmmmmmmm.:idunno: I wonder if he has something to do with the low numbers up on the hill? Just putting it out there....

really don't know why a kid wouldn't play a sport for one year because of a coach, if that's the case. We've all played enough sports to realize we haven't seen eye to eye with every coach. Its even more presumptuous not to play for someone, based on someone else's opinion, without finding out for yourself. Maybe the kid doesn't want to play and blaming someone else is an easy out, who knows? What are NCC's freshman numbers, does anyone know? I'd like to know what their numbers are like this year as compared to the past 5 years before I'd have an opinion about coaching.

  3. What????????? I will take playmakers on my team any day of the week. Technique is important, but it also takes effort and desire to make plays. The three guys you mentioned certainly showed that on Friday while there were others that did not impress me near as much. Just Sayin'

I agree, we aren't here to bash any kid, that's unfair to them. I asked the question about position because of what you stated earlier. Just sayin'.

  4. These kids were not running around crazy or anything. Who said they were not doing things within the confines of their defensive assignment? I do not think anyone's defensive assignment is to allow yourself to get blocked and watch the ball go right past you. Though maybe it is, so that certain kids can get all of the notoriety. All three of these kids were "playmakers" on Friday for NCC on the defensive side of the ball, period.

I have to agree with Mexitucky. They won, now move on and fix the small things. Hey Jack, what position didn't perform as a playmaker? I read the paper and other comments on BGP and it seems as though most were happy with the way things went, they won.

  5. 2 very short years ago, Holy Cross beat NCC and won the 2A state title. Nobody could have predicted that they would fall off as far as they have. I personally expected them to capitalize on that state title and start getting all kinds of kids. This game was probably scheduled before HC fell off the map last year.

They've had nothing since. Fuller and Walker were good athlete's and the perfect storm formed for a state championship. I'm not taking anything away from that, but they got hot at the right time. I would say look at what they have done since, not good. Beal is a good back, but he doesn't have the supporting cast like Fuller and Walker had.

  6. Zabonick is the real deal! He had limited playing time, made some nice catches..... Wood was a little off target with some of his passes, not the norm, he ran the ball well. Dropped passes and fumbles for the Camels can't continue. Some nice runs by the backs. Defense still have some things to fix, but looking pretty good.

    Thanks

  7. Baker's legit...no doubt, but do you really think Ashland's defense is going to hold the RAMS to seven points with only two starters back? Also, the New Cath game wouldn't have been as close if NCC hadn't turned it over four times, and Ashland scored late to pull to within 11 (the final margin).

If Raceland contains the corners and the offense gets on track I like the RAMS by 2 TD's.

I agree with you on the turnovers. I just couldn't figure out why Ashland didn't give the ball to Baker more. NCC has some speed on the edges and looked to be coached very well, but man, they couldn't stop him outside. Once Ashland got behind they had to throw the ball a little and that isn't their strong point. I'm not giving Raceland their due because I haven't seen them play, but from what I've seen from Baker if he gets going it might be a long night for Raceland.

  8. Doesn't wrestling have weight classes? Little different comparison.

Here is where the girls take advantage with the weight classes. Most high school females who win do so at the lower weights. At this weight most 15 - 17 year old girls are wrestling boys who are in grade school or middle school because the high school boys struggle to maintain weight. At his point the girls are so much more physically stronger and mentally tougher. The high school's move the younger kids up so they don't automatically lose by default and have a possible chance of winning a match.

  9. You guys are getting off track....get back to middle school football. Lol. You can make up any reason for why Caldwell will be tops in 2a and they will probably prove it right because they played NCC as good as you could of played them last year and most of those players are back. Definitely the team to beat but we are 15 weeks away too early to really know.

NCC is the team to beat hands down! The middle school talk might have 1% credibility but that's about it. So many kids change their mind about what sport they want to play and where they play it. To think people are associating a middle school championship with a high school state championship is far reaching. Caldwell thinks they are the "heir to the throne" because they were runner up last year and Somerset is, well Somerset. Fact is, NCC beat both and until one of them even makes it to the championship being considered #2 or #3 is not a slap in the face.

  10. I didn't make the trip since it was a scrimmage and not a game, but had made the previous two in 2009 and 2010 - both Brossart victories.

It took me three days to get there, but of course I took a circuitous route. We played at Betsy Layne on Friday, so I left Alexandria early Wednesday morning, giving myself enough time to get to Cross Lanes, West Virginia and arrive at the Tri-State Dog Track in time to bet the Wednesday Saratoga horse races via simulcast. Had dinner following the horse races while playing the live dog races, and did the same thing on Thursday. On Friday morning after breakfast I departed Cross Lanes and headed to Pikeville, Kentucky via Charleston, West Virginia to Pikeville, Ky on Highway 119. Straight downhill via divided highway for about one hundred-fifty miles decorated by those little white crosses about every mile and a half.

The route passed several major coal mining operations. When I reached Kentucky, I passed Belfry high school and Pikeville College.

It took two days to get home. I left Betsy Layne after the game on Friday night, and traveled the Mountain Parkway to Lexington where I stayed overnight, and then played the Saturday Saratoga card via simulcast at Keeneland, had dinner, stayed the night and did the same on Sunday before returning home Sunday night.

A little five night outing for our Betsy Layne football game was a welcome respite following the weeks of preparation and execution of the Nathan Seiter Memorial Golf Outing the previous week. Maybe I should have gone again this week - lol!!!

    funny

  11. The door being opened to the NKYFL championship happened as a consequence of the Red Devils not being able to play games at Campbell County High School. With the edition of the middle school teams years back the grass field couldn't take all of the wear. When the Red Devils were informed to find a new home field they were able to secure HHS. I don't think its fair to blame HHS of taking advantage of being able to provide a better surface to play for the pee wee teams at the end of the season, because Mills Rd was usually a mud hole at the end. Dixie, CovCath, Beechwood all had local teams in the NKYFL and could have provided a field for the championship game but choose not too. I do believe it's a tool to showcase your facility but, I think its more a financial purpose than for recruiting.

  12. Actually I love what Highlands has done over the years. I never said I didn't like Highlands. I am first and foremost a Cooper fan this year, secondly always follow my Beechwood Tigers, but I always want other area schools to play good also.

Actually I was talking to my sons gf's dad last night and we were talking about going to the Highlands UC game.

I personally don't think there was a better story in the state than that of Cooper Football last year and what they were able to accomplish. A team that wasn't even ranked in the pre season coaches polls and a team no one outside of the Cooper family gave any respect to, only to make a run all the way to the title game with one of the best defenses in the state and beating team after team with D1 recruits. Those are the type of teams I will always be a fan of.

    right on!

  13. I'm guessing Tommy Donnelly and Wyatt Boberg????

Yes. Heard Tommy looked exceptionally smooth and Wyatt was quick. Tommy is going to tough to handle at 6'5 with good hands. He could possibly see a lot of double coverage this year opening up opportunity for other players. Still early, let's see how it plays out.

  14. You know, 100% is way to high. I think somerset should be the favorite. Caldwell lost two key players, the WR and on o-lineman that was one of the few kids that played both ways. 54, I think his number was. IMO, the rest of caldwells defense was very suspect. I know what they got coming back (Caldwell), but I think it's a three horse race, somerset, Caldwell and NCC. In that order.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Until NCC is knocked out they are still the team to beat. Teams lose players every year and come back and win it again. You have to chemistry and talent. Losing a couple key players can totally ruin your chemistry and a team can fall flat on their face. NCC might not have that stand out player they are use to having but this group looks to have a bunch of kids that cheer one another on, and that's a big plus. The only thing that I would agree with you is that it is harder to do it at the smaller schools because of the numbers game, but that's a different thread.

  15. Good question DF, does anyone know what Cooper returns?

I spoke with one of their coach's from last year and he indicated the passing game will be the strength this year. He didn't give a lot of specifics, but indicated the receivers were the going to make a large impact.

  16. For the smaller schools, it is an ongoing issue of concern. I am not shocked. Beechwood had low numbers a few years ago and if it weren't for 7th and 8th graders playing freshman ball, their freshman season would have been in jeopardy.

Beechwood is the only 1A school in N. Ky. fielding a freshman team. The other 1A schools go the freshman/sophomore team route and no JV.

In the N. Ky. 2A schools, Lloyd has not fielded a freshman team for a couple years. Newport did not have a team last year, maybe also the year before. I don't know what Brossart does with freshmen. Holy Cross - I am not sure what they did last year or what they are doing this year.

If you go up to Holmes in 4A, I believe they are numbers challenged also.

I also have seen on BGP that other schools around the state have experienced low numbers on freshman teams as well. The thing that perhaps makes this shocking is that it is, New Cath, one of the top football programs in the state being affected. Beyond it being New Cath, no one who has been involved in freshman football in the past few years is shocked by low numbers hurting a freshman team.

I will add one point. Any football player who wants to play and isn't absolutely certain they will start and play where ever they attend school should be considering the smaller schools. I guarantee you that there are at least 10 freshman kids at Cov Cath who will never start a varsity game, or see significant minutes, who could attend New Cath or Holy Cross and have a great experience playing high school football and see a lot of playing time, maybe even start varsity. I know there is much more to choosing a school than playing football, but there are other very good schools to consider where you get an excellent education AND get to be a letterman in football and other sports. I am not picking on CCH, just using them as an example. The same is true for any kid attending a big school. If you want to be a key part in athletics in high school, you should think about the small schools.

Brossart numbers are really low, all of the freshman are playing w/ the varsity. Beechwood wouldn't have had a freshman team if they didn't move up 8th graders to play. At NC and Brossart its hard to move up kids to the freshman level when you don't know if that kid is going to play there, especially when tuition is involved.
