  1. Congratulations Mayfield!! This was the best beechwood team I have seen in years without a doubt!! To be able to shut down our running game when no one else has been able to is quite an accomplishment. If Mayfields passing game wasn't on, and it hasn't been in some games, the outcome could have been a lot different. Take State Big Red!!

  2. Graves is finding its stride now, after their win against McCracken they have been on a tear. The QB you guys are mentioning was a receiver at Mayfield last year, the kid is a true athlete, but was a great QB, but for other reasons that wouldn't work out. He's showing his skill now at just the right time. I think the thing I didn't expect in the BG game was Graves' D stepping up like that, I don't know where that turnaround came from, maybe some Graves' fans can explain that one.

  3. While I agree that the field is nice being turf, the reference to Murray State baffles me. Roy Stuart Stadium seats 17,000, all on 1 side and has no buildings or anything else on any of the other sides. I just don't see it. While BW field is fine if you like turf, and I do not, I was always disappointed in the seating. Now I have never been in the field house, the new field house but from the outside it is very impressive. Overall the facility is grade A other than the seating

I didn't mean the stadium, sorry, I mean the look of the school, the massive facelift they have done to the classrooms and the main school building, the campus reminds me of Murray State, similar to the business building today.

  4. All talk aside, I personally enjoy coming up to Ft. Mitchell, I spend the night and just enjoy a great night of football. The crowd is electric, as a high school football crowd should be. Beechwood has a very nice facility, the field is always in excellent condition and with the recent changes reminds me of a small college, Murray State comes to mind. You guys have a lot to be proud of there in Ft. Mitchell.

  5. The Mayfield posters are all correct on what I meant, all I am saying is I personally have seen it every year, that "X" Player is D1 talent, the one that comes to my mind recently is Vocke. Granted, this year has been a lot tamer it seems on the D1 touting, at least in this thread. We all knew Jonathan Jackson was special, and the best player on the field in most of his games, and he literally ran over kids, but he didn't go D1 and most of us fans knew it'd be tough given his size and I know I didn't say he was going D1 for sure.

  6. Here is something I am going to throw into the mix that I think should be considered much more in big games between top tier teams - I will call it the stud factor. Really good teams always have those players that are clearly just a different level of athlete. Those players tend to come up big in the big games and make a difference by themselves. Here is how I see the special athletes on both teams and I ask Mayfield posters to add in the ones I am missing from Mayfield because there is probably a player or maybe two that I don't know enough about to include here.

    Category 1 - The D1 athletes (a D1 athlete is a D1 athlete, regardless of sport)

    Beechwood

RB/DB Ethan Stringer (Jr.) - already has a D1 scholarship in baseball from UL

OL/DL Brayden Combs (Jr.) - also has a D1 baseball scholarship but his is from UK

WR/DB Jeremy Burns (Sr.) - being recruited for a D1 scholarship in Lacrosse

    Mayfield

OL Kel Carmen (Jr.?) - no doubt this kid is a D1 talent with his size and athleticism

Category 2 - No Doubt College Athlete but not sure about D1

    Beechwood

Flex/DE Jonathon Stokes (Sr.) - Excellent talent and ability; makes big plays every week and certainly can play on the next level

OL Justin Overstreet (Jr.) - Has the size and ability to be D1; I will be more surprised if he doesn't play D1 than if he does

WR/LB Brett Slusher (Jr.) - May also become a D1 baseball player but has the ability to play college football if that works out better

    Mayfield

RB Trajon Bright (So.) - Special talent but will his size keep him from going D1?

There may be a couple more from Mayfield I am missing so please add them in. However, please try to limit it to the highest level of athlete, not "he is a really good high school player". There are several others on Beechwood that I can say that about and who might even play a sport in college (Fieger, for example in baseball) but I am not including them in this list. I want just those very best stud players that will stand out on the field by making plays that show there is no doubt they are a college level athlete.

This D1 talk always bothers me about the Beechwood folks, I have heard this just about every year from you guys, and you hardly hear it from the Mayfield people. D1 is D1 no matter what sport? We are talking about football here, where we are talking about size and speed. The only player Mayfield has had that even got mention of D1 in a long time is Jonathan Jackson, and even he didn't go D1. Nussbaum didn't, he had the size and Vocke didn't, and he had the speed. I don't think the "stud" factor means much when you are facing a good defense like Mayfield, we shut down Vocke back when he played us, Nussbaum was the only successful athlete from Beechwood I can recall giving us fits.

  7. As MCMustangs stated it would be interesting to see what Morris could do at McCracken. I think this job would generate some big names interested. The biggest name would be Morris but with him being AD and coach not sure if McCracken would match his salary, if he was interested?? I don't see Garrett hiring a coach without any head coaching experience. Do they have a quality coach on staff now that would be a possible candidate?

I think Rogers is a great coach but would he leave Tilghman after 1 year? Could this possibly be a landing spot to bring Lovelace back to the area?

Lovelace would be a great coach at McCracken.

  8. What is it about Russellville versus Mayfield? Why do they so often come up with games like this versus Mayfield?

I heard on the way home Coach Myers (who used to coach at Mayfield and probably knows the system better than most coaches in the state) say they prepared for 3 weeks for this game.

  9. Doesn't Mayfield have players go on to play college ball?

Yeah, Mayfield has had more go on to play college ball than Graves. There are quite a few scouts at the State Championship game than come to playoff games so his decision to go out to Graves doesn't make a lot of sense to me, especially when you consider he has invested and learned the Mayfield system and it takes more than a year it seems to learn a new system like that.

  10. I watched the first half of the Tilghman/McCracken game and from what I saw Tilghman did like they always do and killed themselves, some of that you can blame on implementing a new system but a ton of offsides and other penalties. Mayfield did not make those kind of mistakes in the first game against Fort Campbell and I don't expect it to happen this week either. McCracken gave up a lot of yards on the run so I expect Mayfield to exploit that just to keep the ball out of McCracken's hands. If Mayfield can play ball control and mix in the pass to keep the defense honest, I say Mayfield has a good shot at pulling it out. I don't like our chances if we get into a scoring contest. I think the Mayfield Defense is ahead of the offense at this point but you can't depend on it for a whole game, they have to come off the field and get a rest.

  11. Here's a little info about the jamboree at Ft. Campbell from last weekend. Looks like the Falcons struggled when it came to finding any offensive rhythm.

LINK: Northeast, Fort Campbell claim jamboree wins

Don't know anything about RossView, but Graves seems to be able to put up some points this year.

Looks like this matchup between Mayfield and Ft. Campbell is gonna be more of a letdown than I thought, I was hoping for a little more prep for the McCracken game than what I am seeing.

  12. Once again Mayfield fans continue to use this excuse which makes absolutely no sense.

If Jackson was essentially useless as a Running Back because he was so hurt why did the Mayfield coaching staff even put him on the field? Secondly, why keep him on the field when you are losing?

Mayfield fans love to crow every year about how much depth they have and how guys are always stepping in and replacing others.... did Mayfield simply not have anyone better on their roster than a Jackson who apparently had one foot in the grave?

Either Mayfield wasn't as good of a team as people think that year and Hazard was truly better... or the Mayfield coaching staff cost their program a State Title. Which is it?

In the running back position that year, Mayfield did not have anyone better in that position. And Beechwood was really good that year, you can't tell me Hazard was head and shoulders better than Beechwood that year. Putting a player like Jackson out on the field is an intimidation factor at first, but then I agree it gets stupid to leave him out there and he isn't doing anything, but he was a leader the moment he stepped into that school as a freshman, so you can't ignore that, especially in a championship game.

  13. Thank you, if you had watched him as long as we have, you know he can carry a team anywhere. I think Mayfield could have done some different things in that game but we all knew that Jonathan was good for 2-3 TD's a game. If you took out Combs for Hazard it would have been a different outcome, you can't deny that.

  14. Its pretty simple really, take out Hazards passing game, the QB and the defense and then see how well they do. Hazard said they stopped Jackson, but he was just standing out there and everybody on the Mayfield side knew it. Mayfield played teams as good as Hazard and bigger all season, you can't tell me Jackson wouldn't have broken some tackles and had some big gains that day had he been 100%.

  15. Are you timing the refs? Are you waiting till the ball is set to start timing?

Actually, we do at several games. I agree with a lot of posters on here, I think its a pretty big problem that lots of teams take advantage of. We could actually get a much longer count if we went with when the ball is set but do you go by that or when the judge blows the whistle?
