Ballard scares me. I think Manual will have to perform better than they have so far if they expect to win this one.

Our (Butler) punter/kicker Keinan Cullen punted 7 times vs. Eastern last Friday for a 49.4 average, including a 72 yarder. He also kicked off four times vs. John Hardin a week ago last Saturday, all four were touchbacks, three of which made the back of the endzone on a fly.

BE didn't even run to Farley's side then. The kid for Butler I thought that stood out was the Free Safety. He did a nice job of closing and made some solid tackles. The running back No. 21 was a tough runner. I wasn't overly impressed with anyone on Butler's lines. Butler had a huge weight advantage over BE, but for some reason they weren't able to really control the game.

The veer makes you play assignment football, and our left side d-linemen just didn't do it. East runs the veer as good as anyone, even on the freshman level. Eventually they found the soft spot (away from Farley). We're trying to get Farley on the offensive side as well. #21 is Tyler Sharp, and he's never played RB until this year, he was a TE/WR all through youth league. Not sure why we don't have our best RB's playing that position (I'm not on the freshman staff).

Whatever the case the little Bears have to recover quickly, we play Trinity Thursday.

I would have to think CAL should be favored. Yes North Oldham has won a couple games, niether of thier opponets were strong programs. CAL will present a different kind of challenge than Shawnee or Atherton could provide.

Should be a great, hard hitting game, a lot like the Manual/

Central game.

Both teams play a lot of kids both ways. Heyman is a receiver, the QB Langdon is also the starting D End (strong corner in Male's defense) and Justin Green is both a RB and DB for Male. Central has several as well.

The key I think is which O-Line is the most effective. Will Male be able to handle Central's size/strength or will Central be able to handle Male's speed and quickness.

One thing's for sure, there won't be a lack of athletes on the field.

I'm gonna say Male 27 Central 21.

He wasn't unblockable, he was unblocked. He was the read man on the midline option play that BE ran about 30 times yesterday.

that was #95, he was the left DT (on BE's right offensive side) where they ran effectively in the 2nd half, mostly late in the game. Farley was the right DT.

Did Trevor Holtsclaw transfer from Trinity? If so, you have a really good QB waiting in the wings.

He'll see his old friends on Tuesday in the Butler/Trinity JV game.

Bad enough we play Trinity with a banged up, young & inexperienced team, we have to do it on a short week. :creepy:

That Butler team does not look bad at all ,well the defense does not anyway ,anybody know who is #62 Farley for butler is he was unblockable ,anyway they can turn it around its not to late, good luck to all the teams

We thought it was important for the coaches and players to at least get a t-shirt and meal for participating, and couldn't have done it without Texas Roadhouse. I know parking is terrible at Butler, but we're so landlocked, can't do much about it.

We'll try to improve on it next year. Bowling Green and St. X wanted to play this year, but had scheduling conflicts. Both said they want to play next year.

At least the weather was great yesterday, I'm watching this Cincy X/DeMatha game and they are cramping up all over.

I think programs do what works for them. Trinity plays juniors on the JV and I strongly assume Moeller does not. I don't have any issue with it, I just want to be informed when I consider the final score of a contest like this, that is all.

 

For the record, I thought some of Trinity's back ups looked like outright studs (warming up at the BG game).

I too was puzzled about the fake PAT, my buddy (who was in the press box with me) said it was a read and the center missed the block, Boyle didn't appear to be fooled anyway. Agree though, I would take my chances with a play from scrimmage. Don't know why #26 didn't see any offensive action, my buddy was stumped as well. According to him, Trinity's biggest offensive weapon (29)was in street clothes.

Great game though on both sides, 31 & "little Lorenzen" 22 are studs as well.

Shame our "one great" newspaper didn't choose to cover it here in Louisville.

Game 1:

Manual 18 John Hardin 12:

JH had a couple LONG TD runs called back. Big play of the game, Manual punting from it's own 1, but JH didn't cover the wide sprint man. Manual completed the pass out to midfield, drove down to get an 18-6 lead.

Saw something I had never seen before. A FOUR-yard punt return for a TD, on a punt that WASN'T blocked.

Game 2:

Boyle Co. 36 Trinity 28 (Double OT)

Game of the day. Boyle has a real stud RB named Lamar Dawson, ran for over 150 on the day. Trinity ran the opening kickoff back for as TD, but Boyle came right back with a long TD drive. Game went back and forth until the end of regulation with Boyle leading 20-14. Trinity completed an 18-yard TD pass from Brad Kragthorpe (yes, the UL coaches' son) to Darrick Nix as time ran out. Trinity lined up for the PAT, but tried a fake that Boyle stopped. Both teams scored and made their 2-point conversion in the 1st OT. Boyle scored in the 2nd OT on a 4th down run, and made the 2-pointer. Trinity took a big sack on 3rd down, and Boyle broke up the 4th down pass to win. Lots of great talent on both teams you will hear about down the road.

Game 3:

PRP 18 Owensboro 6

After a shaky start, PRP gained control in the 2nd half to get the hard earned 18-6 win.

Saw something I had never seen before, part II. Owensboro had a 4th and 58. Don't suppose there is a page in the playbook for that situation.

Game 4:

Bullitt East 12 Butler 0

Both defenses dominated most of the game; Butler had a couple drives that fizzled out in East's territory. Late in the 4th quarter, East has a 3rd and short from their own 35 and the QB (the roster they provided didn't match the players on the field, so I can't give you the young man's name) kept the ball on the veer and rambled down inside the Butler 20. A couple plays later the Chargers scored on a 1-yard run with 16 seconds left. East returned an interception as time ran out for the final margin.

All in all, a great day, as the weather was beautiful. Much thanks to the fans and teams that particiapted.

The fact that Saint Xavier fans find listening to our radio crew hard to take makes up for any challenges they have in the booth. :jump:

I just finished watching the tape of the game (we play Trinity this week) and there was plenty of holding (on both sides) not called.

How is The rocks passing game this year? i know that they have a solid running Game in Tim Phillips(sp?) Just wondering about the pass being that Petrino is off to college.

The Rocks will fair well with Will Stein at QB. He is a gamer and has looked very good in the scrimmages. His receiving corps are very good, two Duttons, Leach, et al. Many quick targets to spread the defense out. The O-line should be very, very good. They have Coach Beatty pumped up. He's not used to having many returning lettermen on the O-line.

Again, 3 Qtr games versus LexCath and Scott County may not be a great tool, but that's all we have for the next few hours.

East 21 DeSales 14

"LSU Rock" fans, his family will present the flag to the Trinity flag corp for raising prior to the game. This is a tradition prior to every Trinity home varsity game. (A different group or family is honored by being chosen to present the flag for raising prior to the playing of the Star Spangled Banner)

Also, the bench bearing his name in the new gathering area across from the stadium has been "Blessed" and is ready for use! I understand a new film tower bearing his name is near completion at the practice field as well. There is an advertisement in the game program bearing his smiling face!

Dave is sorely missed by many Trinity supporters.

Maybe the "privates" can boycott bourbon in retaliation. :banana:

I do not like to see this boycott stuff because I believe it weakens the public schools with the decrease in level of competition. Also, as mentioned elsewhere, the privates do usually bring a good number of fans to the public venues and many dollars are earned with added concession, ticket, & program sales.

Not exactly true, although both are public school districts. The way some people post here, they think independent schools are closer to private than public.

They are in that they can attract students from a much wider base then many of the county systems.

I just found out Bowling Green is an independent school and a child living outside the city limits may pay $175.00 to attend. I do not believe this means the child must be from Warren County. It's about the opportunity of choice.

As far as religion goes, about 20% of Trinity's enrollment is non-Catholic.

If I took my children to Highlands, it would be totally an athletic reason. As in my personal opinion, they teach the same subjects as my child's present schools and academically, MY WIFE AND I are the ones to determine how good of an education they are receiving by the standards that we are requiring of them.

Highlands consistently has the highest CATS scores in the Commonwealth. Not all 800 plus are there for athletics. Maybe some kids like attending a school because of the academics or because their best friend may play a sport. Highlands can attain these lofty scores because the impoverished child is taken out of the equation.

Certainly, it's cyclical.

The players have to buy completely into a coach's philosophy.

The winning must follow after the kids have learned the system.

Then the support grows financially, general support, attendance, etc.

Then you have a winning program which attracts the more dedicated or serious athletes, garners more support from the community, and then you have a self-perpetuating successful program.

If the coach fails or changes, then the cycle may have to start over, if the new coach is not successful. If the athletes perceive there are problems developing, then they may stay away, not play or attend elsewhere.

When Trinity football was in a down period during the mid to late 90s, the fan support wasn't as strong. Same thing happened when UK was on probation in basketball, people did not fill up Rupp. So, in general, there is a group of hard core supporters. Then, there is a large group who are influenced by success on the playing field. Winning brings more people (dollars) and so it goes....

By my count, you've averaged 41 points under Beatty, while, the Tigers have averaged 33 during the same time. I'm surprised the difference isn't more.

"From 2000-06, Trinity has scored an average of more than 41 points per game and allowed less than 13 points per contest. The Shamrocks were last held scoreless in October 1998 (119 games). Trinity’s record for 2000-06 was 89-12 and included 30 games won and two lost in playoff competition."

28 point margin of victory is the reason certain schools refuse to contact the Rocks about playing. Kudos to Bowling Green. I understand Coach Wallace promised his son he'd play against Trinity before his eligibilty expired at BGHS. This second meeting between the schools should be interesting. Happy to know BGHS is an independent school.....I believe Wilson Sears was a coach there back in the day....

 

I'm going to take this opportunity to remind folks that many predicted a complete meltdown two years ago (some experts said by as bad as 56-0) at the hands of X, and I predicted a tight ball game. Last year, the Purples had so many injuries and, on paper, had no business being on the same field with X. The Purples played with a ton of heart and still made it tight.

The Tigers do not usually have the offensive fire-power Trinity has. The Rocks have averaged 44 points a game since Mr. Beatty took over.

This may resemble last season's Trinity/Henry Clay playoff game. I believe a three TD victory will be about right for Trinity.

There is an all you can eat spaghetti supper in the school cafeteria, just on the other side of parking lot, prior to the game.
