  1. That is a HUGE night for Mullins! Congrats to this young man.

Congrats also to Luke Trimble on a great basketball career, was a team leader and always gave it 100% every time he hit the floor!

I can remember watching Paintsville beat Lawrence Co. in the 2012 district tourney and then push Sheldon Clark to the limit in the semi-finals before losing. Everyone thought that group would contend for a region title. Not only did that not happen, but they never won another district tourney game! I think Trimble was the only one that of that group continued to play basketball.

  2. Lawrence Co. IS the clear favorite. However, ANYTHING can happen come March. I still think either of the two teams or maybe both from the 57th District will put up a fight before it is all over depending on the draw. Although the Bulldogs put up a good fight last in the region finals they have had their problems in the past seasons. Also Lawrence Co and Magoffin Co are looking to finally find a way to win the BIG one that sends you to Rupp, something Johnson Central has seemed to have no problem with. Should be a great tourney at the expo!

  3. 15th Region,

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your weekly rankings and the summary for each team. I follow this region a lot and you are SPOT ON with your summaries. The rankings are so hard to do with seems like all the parody especially with the middle of the pack teams. However, each week you subjectively produce a ranking that is hard to argue with!

  4. I like Lawrence Co. over Phelps. The Bulldogs have had a great season and I don't see it ending here. The hornets are still trying to build.

I like Belfry over Pike C Central. This game is at Belfry and the pirates have a ton of athletes. The Hawks have good team but have lost 7 out of their last 8 headed into the last week of the season. The Pirates win a close one at pond creek.

Lawrence Co over Belfry in the finals. Belfry has the ability to keep it close and give them a chance to win. However, the Bulldogs are on a mission. Lawrence Co will pull away in the end and win the 60th district.

  5. I like Pikeville over Piarist. Pikeville has played better ball the last couple of weeks and will roll past a Knights team that is winless on the year.

I like Shelby Valley over East Ridge. Although this will be at the "reservation" Shelby Valley has two dominate guards in Swindall and Wright and it will be difficult for the Warriors to contain them. Coach McCoy is sly in developing a game plan this time of year and should make this a BATTLE.

I will take Shelby Valley over Pikeville in the finals. With a rivalry second to none and after last weeks fire works, this game will be a must see. The Panthers will put a fight with Battaile and Slone but won't be able to keep up with Swindall and Wright as the wildcats take the 59th.

  6. I like South Floyd over Prestonsburg. Although the two teams have played each other close both games, South Floyd seems to have better guard play and overall organization. Seems like the 58th district has a upset about ever year, but I don't think it is this game as the blackcats have struggled this year to beat a quality team.

I like Allen Central over Betsy Layne. Allen Central has a very good player in Hall along with some role players and Betsy Layne just didn't find their identity after starting the season fairly well for as young as they are.

Here is the upset. Allen Central at home over South Floyd. Why? Because they are at home, and an upset usually occurs in the 58th.

  7. I will take Johnson Central in a close one over Sheldon Clark. Although the cardinals have been the one team that has given the golden eagles the most trouble in the past 3-4 years in the district tournament. Sheldon Clark will play with a "nothing to loose" attitude, while Johnson Central will have the "bulls eye" on their chest. Mason Blair will need a Big night.

I will take Magoffin Co. over Paintsville. Although the tourney is at Paintsville, the tigers just don't have the fire power to keep up with Russell & Lovely. Magoffin has played well the last month and are one of three teams (Lawrence Co, Johnson Central) I feel can win the region.

I will take Johnson Central over Magoffin Co in the finals. Without a big man for the hornets in the post JC will pound it down low and control the boards.

    Only my thoughts!

  9. I tried to tell you guys Calloway would be hard to beat. Region 1 is criminally underrated every year. Game in region 1 is played in the lane much more than the three point line and so it is no surprise they shot a lot of free throws. Same with McCracken and Wayne last year. Calloway will give Bowling Green all they want also.

Region 1- has 15 wins now in the last 20 years at the State Tourney. Tying them with Region 3 for 10th out of 16!

    Not overly under rated!!
