  1. Holmes caught Cooper off guard and took advantage of an unfocused team. Some nice shooting by #15 for the bulldogs. I think that was Coopers lowest scoring game this year. Missing open layups and jump shots won't win you many games. I was told some of the Holmes kids played and even started the Varsity game the night before. How true is that?

I thought Ryle beat them a couple weeks ago and kept them under 30......

  2. During a middle school basketball game on Tuesday night, a shooting foul was called. Immediately after the call another individual on defensive "questioning" the call was issued a Technical.

The refs let Offensive team shoot 2 technical shots, then had them take their respective spots for the foul shots, offense missed 2nd shot rebounded by defense play on.

Shouldn't have been the other way around with the offensive team getting the ball at half court after all 2+2 foul shots???

  3. Highlands 8th grade Boys just lost to Gray Middle by 4 pts in the final seconds of the game on The Road. Highlands led 17-13 after 1st, 28-21 at half, 34-26 after 3rd and lost 44-40. Tough loss but kudos to Gray for clawing back at home.

Gray Actually was leading after 1st 17-13 the next 2 Periods were all Highlands but the Gators finished strong, Great Game!

Horrible refs at GMS(both ways as usual)....

Question about the Technical call after the foul. Why didn't Gray get the ball out of bounce after the foul shots???????

  4. I wasn't sure but I did think Dixie beat Conner so I would also put Dixie at 4th on the list. I would also agree with Cuban Missle about Cooper and SK. Not sure how someone can put SK above Cooper when they lost to Cooper everytime they played them.

What is the most surprising thing to me though is the absence of Ryle. Not that they deserve to be on e list, but I'm just not used to Ryle not being mentioned. maybe the tides are turning in Union.

Ryle has beat SK, Split with CovCath, split with Highlands, beat Dixie 2 out of 3, lost close game early to Brossart and Conner, all with a new coach that had no idea what he had early and is finally settling in with the much need help of an assistant.

I think Ryle is 13-9 with 4 losses coming at the hands of LaSalle, Trinity and Elder

I guess my point is, there is no way to tell a true top 5 in Freshman baseball in NKY, its a crap shoot day by day... I realize there is no fun in not speculating on a top 5 but its just not realistic IMO

  5. Final from last night in Edgewood.

Nick King started and went 6.2 for Dixie. Breeden recorded the last out for the Colonels.

I believe Welsh started for Ryle and was relieved by Lonnemann. Not sure who their third pitcher was.

    R 001 000 2 -- 3 4 1

    D 020 204 / -- 8 9 3

Funny how different views see the games......

    online version that I saw....

    Ryle 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 -- 3 5 4

    DHC 0 2 0 2 0 4 - -- 8 7 2

  6. Ryle pitchers:

    Bellew 3.1 innings 49 piches.

Brennan 2.0 innings and 35 pitches and

Clarkson 0.2 innings and 6 pitches.

    DAVE

Actually it was Downs that came in to finish the 4th inning not Clarkson

    Bellew 3.1 innings 49 piches.

Downs 0.2 innings and 6 pitches.

Brennan 2.0 innings and 35 pitches and

  7. Just curious, did not see Ohmer play this year. But when Campbell County played him in 7th grade we shut him down. We put our best defender on him and played tight on him the whole game. Jake actually fouled out of the game. I think he might have had a couple of offensive fouls.

We have done the same to him in years past, I was impressed with him this year, he seams to be learning to keep his cool, when he does mature he will be very tough.

  8. No bad blood...Rankin is a good player and Braydon is too. They are a well coached team, I think everyone knows you can't stop Vince, but if you can limit him and make the guards hit outside shots you stand a chance. In my non-coaching, parent sitting in the bleacher opinion I would take my chances making the guards shoot outside...if they beat you hitting 3's hats off to them.

Saturday should see Gray winning another regional title, but the center for Woodlands is very active. If the guards for Woodlands can hit from outside and get some points from the free throw line they should keep it close.

The 7th grade boys basketball as a whole has been very good to watch. It will be fun to see how these boys progress over the next 2 years before playing JV and Varsity.

    Cool couldn't agree more!

I would agree that is the best approach, Camp Ernst tried it, but Gray went with 3 guards and hit the shots, Woodland is very talented should be another fun final Saturday.

Anyone know if they played during the season, if they did what was the result?

  9. You all can over analyze a couple different calls that are pointed out but if you watch the entire tape and nitpick I'm sure you can find some that favored IHM. Bottom line, IHM couldn't finish the Birds off. Best comeback I have ever seen live.

In action tonight, Gray bigs were dominant. Not much you can do when Vince Rankin decides to take it strong to the hole, he is atleast 6'1 160lbs. The Bromwell kid has to go 6' 200+. Nobody on Highlands roster is even 5'10 and certainly not 200lbs. Hoping for a growth spurt this off-season because several are due.

Great year for Highlands 24-5 record.

Good luck to Gray vs Woodland who beat CC tonight 41-35.

    Rankin is 5'11" 155

    Bromwell is 5'10' 190

  10. Gray 6th grade won the final game. Came back from being down. It will be interesting to watch the two bigs for Gray, if other kids start to grow this summer they could be come an average team really quick.

    Last year....

Well, there goes my upset call of Turkeyfoot over Gray. Woodlands has a very athletic big kid and some good guards. I didn't get to see Camp Ernst this year or hear much about them.

this year, getting to be a routine...... bad blood? or just fun?

    Just curious, no offense meant.

  11. I guess I'm missing something. All I continue to read on BGP is how Ryle is full of Dad's on the coaching staff. I really would like for someone to provide a list of these Dads. In my experience with the program I am only aware of one dad and from what I could tell he was very well respected by coaches, parents and most importantly players. Neither he nor his son is associated with the program any longer. In regard to Coach Engler, I don't know a thing about him but gladly welcome him to the program. Coach Woolf is a great guy and would have likely done a pretty good job. I for one won't miss Coach Warner. Quite frankly I think the program suffered from too many chiefs and not enough indians. From my view I saw some serious issues with the program. Let me ask this question... how many high school football teams have had to call the police and have a kid tazed during one of their practices? Just sayin.

Not Judging but just from what I can remember over the last 3-4 yrs for Football. Woolf, Morgan, Fulmer, Ross, Abshire, Trego, Ashley, Davis, Belk, Wilburn, Teepen.

I am sure that's not complete but it's a good start.
