  1. I honestly dont know nor do I care. I am sorry I even posted in this thread. Wow...all I said was that there are 2 kids Griff and Beau who would start IMO on the basketball court. That is a compliment to them and not to be meant to drag them down for not playing.

This might be a good time for the Q to get off this site, I have been debating it seriously the past year or so anyway. Some of the crap I read on here is a JOKE !!

Beau would play and possibly start in time. Griff on the other hand would definitely not start and could possibly not play much. You have to remember that neither of these kids have played organized ball since 8th grade.

  2. Congratulations to the 3 individuals who qualified from the 8th region. Parker Harris of Highlands, Drew McDonald of NewCath, and Cody Kellem of Grant County. Looks like Bourbon Co won the 8th and Mason is runner-up.

The 8th region was very strong this year with several seniors. Parker Harris chipped in for birdie on the 18th hole to shoot 69 to win his third straight region individual title. Tyler Lippert barely missed a birdie putt on 18 to tie for a playoff opportunity. Drew McDonald birdied 3 out of his 4 last holes to shoot 72 and qualify for state. Cody Kellam played solid golf to shoot 72. When someone shoots 73, Jacob Vrolik of Grant County, and does not qualify, this is some vey strong competition. Seiors in this region are Harris, McDonald, Kellam and 2 from Bourbon are Crossfield and Trelobs.

In the 7th region, Ryle rolls to a win led by Austin Squires. They have 4 seniors, Squires, Gamm, Poore and Adams. Paul Huber from Cov Cath shot a 80 and is also a senior.

  3. On the over and back "non call", it appeared Beetle was going to concede the over and back, and nonchalantly approached the ball. The Dixie defender aggressively made a move on the ball, which caused Bolden to then pursue the ball harder. Dixie player dove for the ball, and IMO, touched it, negating the over and back.

On the block shot, the Dixie player attempted a finger roll layup off the glass. Because of the finger roll, the ball was still ascending after it touched the glass when it was blocked. The ball never was higher than the rim. My seat was at rim height in the Dixie section, at the baseline extended..perfect vantage point. No goaltending.

Both calls (or non-calls) were correct, IMO.

It has always been my understanding that once the ball touches the backboard it can not be blocked. Doesn't matter if the ball is still going up or not.

  4. Holmes really seemed to lose their intensity in the third quarter. They were going through the motions as if they had the game won. Then as it got tighter, Hatton took over on offense for Dixie and got them within range of the win. That last shot by Dixie was not a good play. Why even call timeout if your play is for Hatton to shoot a contested 30 footer?

I know Holmes beat Cov Cath in the district final, but I have a hard time seeing them win tomorrow night. It will be on Bolden to make it happen.

I agree. The way Holmes was shooting free throws, Hatton should have taken the ball to the basket and he may have gotten a and 1. Especially on the 3 he shot before the last one. I can't believe Holmes missed as many free throws as they did. At 1 time they missed 8 in a row. If Holmes doesn't make their free throws they will not beat CCH.

  5. And since we are playing the "What If's" think about if these kids stayed on playing hoops and didnt stop to lift weights for football or focus on baseball.

Nick True-6'6 Solid defensive rebounder and had nice touch.

Todd Ramey- 6'3 230lb (Led JV in scoring as soph last year)

Seth Hope- 6'3 (beast on boards as a soph, earned some Varsity minutes)

Ben Weyer- 6'6 (left for NCC after 8th grade year)

Bo Hoge- 6' strong guard who played several years of AAU ball.

Griffin Urlage- 6'1 another good shooting guard who played years of AAU ball.

It would be a much deeper team if you ask me and Listerman would have no issues on the frontcourt as well as depth at the guard spot.

Couple of corrections and add ons

    Todd Ramey 6'1"

Bo Hoge 6' and now 207 lbs

Griffin Urlage 6'4" and 220 lbs

Jenson Feggins 6'3" 220 lbs, strong, quick and started several games last year

Any one know where Lane Herrett is? He played half the season as a freshman, then left for Cov Cath and now has left there.

  6. Congrats to Coach L and the boys on a job well done. Malachi were you in the house? Never mind. The boys were ready to play and executed the game plan prepared by the coaches to near perfection. Parker Harris had the game of his career to date and all others that played were real solid. I really like how Drew Houliston handles himself on the court. Never gets raddled and lets the game come to him. As many have said, BB is the oil that greases the wheel for this team. As he goes they go. Another nice game by Mitchell Cain. He is playing with confidence that was not there just a few short weeks ago. Weyer again was a boost off the bench and Hergott was pretty solid at both ends. From what I understand, the Bird bench was calling out the Newport plays even before they started running them. That right there is very good preparation by the coaches and players alike. Now they need to show up tomorrow and play with the same effort and intensity and see if they can give the Breds a game. Either way, a goal has been reached and can serve as a stepping stone in getting this program back to where it used to be.

I was wondering for 2 of Highlands games where Coach Krauss was, and found out he was scouting Newport. He really knows his basketball and he is in Listerman's ear the whole game. HHS doesn't have to win tomorrow night, they just have to able to hang with them to get enough confidence going into the Region. They need to be within 10 going into the 4th quarter. New Cath is tough.

  7. Back in January Newport jumped out to a big early lead and kept HHS at bay the rest of the game. Parker Harris had one of his quietest games of the year. Newport cruised by double digits.

Last night, completely opposite. HHS got the early lead - extended it to double digits just before half. Left under 5 seconds on the clock for the Wildcats to streak down the floor and hit a 30 ft runner by Turner to cut the halftime lead to 9 (HHS had fouls to give but did not use them and Turner made them pay). Similarly at the end of the 3rd qtr. HHS had the ball holding for the last shot, went too early and Price went coast to coast for a 2 pt goal as time expired. Two mistakes that the Birds overcame, but need to be cleaned up if they are to win a close game.

Last night, completely opposite (take II). Parker Harris played the best game of his career. He finished strong at the rim. He made shots from the perimeter. He altered shots. He owned the backboard.

Nice job Birds. Your reward is NCC Friday night, but more importantly the opportunity to represent your school at the BOK next week. NCC is a bad match-up for 95% of the schools in the state. It is the worst possible match-up for HHS.

Agree with Stinky Boy II, Harris played his worst game of the year against Newport the first time they played. He got into foul trouble that game and played the fewest minutes of any game all year. Team played the most complete game of the year. Their were a few mistakes late in the game and a few bad shots at the very end when the clock was on their side that they will need to clean up. Everyone contributed. Besides Harris, Weyer, Buten, Houliston and Cain all made 3 pointers. And several came at important times in the game. Got to give it to Snapp. The kid can shoot. He made some bombs. One of his shots had to be from 30 feet out. He needs to get some meat on those bones to help fend off the double teams which will be coming the next 2 years.

  8. NCC played a very good basketball game. They couldn't miss coming out of the gate. HHS showed a lot of rust not playing for 10 days. For NCC, McDonald showed he is much quicker this year than last year and Weyer has increased his range. HHS just couldn't make any shots early and had quite a few good looks. NCC swatted several shots in the first quarter and that made it harder for HHS to score. Highlands not only gives up about 4 inches per man on the floor, they give up probably 20 - 30 pounds per man as well. To start the game Houliston is on McDonald giving up 6 inches and Hergott is on Weyer giving up 6 inches. I give credit to Listermann for trying something new, coming out of the gate shooting. Just couldn't get the ball to go in the hoop.

  9. They have played a lot better than last night. First they didn't shoot and when the did, they shot poorly from the outside. I have never seen a group of kids more hesitant to shoot. You can't score if you opt to continue to pass and turnover and when a shot rarely went up from the outside it wasn't pretty.

Kevin will get them playing. CCH played great defense! They lost to a good team. As it has been mentioned on multiple threads I believe 3 teams are much better than the rest in the 9th. IMO it drops to Dixie and drops again to the rest.

HHS has only had 15 practices with their whole team since the football season ended. Most schools have had almost their entire team 7 weeks before their season started. HHS only had 4 practices. They have not worked hardly any on their press offense. CCH's press just ate them alive and their trapping defense was solid in the half court. HHS's most deliberate game of he year was their best game of the year. Their 3 point percentage says they need to get good shots.

  10. CCH played a very good basketball game and the players are to be commended. Shuh cleaned up anything that got close to the goal and number 42 was a beast around the basket. However the coach still had his son in the game when all the other starters were pulled with 4 minutes to go in the game. And he was still pressing the whole game. This was classless! I guess his son only had 10 points and he was trying to get him some more points even as Listerman had pulled all his starters.

  11. Of the top 8 players, 5 of them are football players. And you could have as many as 6 football players seeing action tonight. As of yesterday, there still isn't a set lineup and there will be either 2 or 3 football players to start. Needless to say, this team will look a lot different in January and February than it does now.

  12. I'd challenge anyone to come up with a better state championship game than this one. IT had a little bit of everything. Great plays, great comebacks and great miracle finishes with story book endings for a backup QB who is called on to come in for the most important play of his and his teams career.

Congrats Collins, I said earlier in the season Collins is the team I thought that could knock HHS off the mountain top. HHS cost them big time with silly penalty for taunting toward the end of the game which could of cost them the game. Great poise by the underdogs in many eyes. Collins didn't get rattled and did what they needed to get done. Great game.

After the Cov Cath game I told my son that I hoped the late hits and taunting would come back to haunt Highlands and it did. There is no place in the game for this kind of behavior. Congrats to Collins, they played a good game. I guess next year the Highlands kids won't think this is automatic.

  13. Drew McDonald imo is, or will be the best player in NKY this year. I said this in an earlier thread. I'm a big fan of Drew's game.

Dixie has a lot of athletic bigs and will be competitive in every game on the boards.

Drew is definitely one of the three best in the region with Bolden and Hatton. It will be interesting to see if they pound the ball into him. When NCC lost to Holmes in the region last year, they dominated when they went to Drew. I have hard that NC is going to run more this year. That will be interesting to see also. One drawback Drew has is he is not very fast. Everything else he is stellar.
