If it's not Division I basketball, it's small-college basketball. If you want to apply terms to which, that is fine. I know there are NAIA teams that are much better than Division II teams in terms of talent. I don't follow small-college basketball, but I do realize it is totally different in Division I.
That's just not accurate at all.

I pulled up NKU's schedule and they played IU Kokomo this season and beat them 88-44. That's what happens when Division I schools normally play these small colleges. I went back and looked at their schedule from last year and see NKU beat UC Clermont 107-53. That tells me they would also blow out most of these other smaller non-Division I foes you mention. It's a different level that Division I schools play at.
Neither of those teams are Top 25 DII teams. IU-Kokomo is an NAIA DII team and UC-Clermont plays in the USCAA DII. We're talking about NCAA DII Top 25 teams, that's much different.

A combined record of 39-12 against Division II competition is not exactly earth-shattering news. lol. Again, I know nothing about NKU's current roster, but I would guess if they were playing the same schedules as the teams you pointed out, NKU would probably be unbeaten or close to it. Any team on a given night can pull off an upset (Chaminade over Ralph Sampson and No. 1 Virginia in 1982), but over the course of a season Division II and NAIA types can not maintain it. They just do not have the players. For every Malone game you point out, I can probably pull out a 125-45 blowout when D-1 school play these small-time colleges. If you can't accept that, we can disagree without becoming disagreeable.
Please do find me a 125-45 blowout between a top-25 DII team and a D1 team then...

But if Bellarmine is losing to the likes of Midwestern State and Findlay, they have a LONG way to go before they start talking about beating Division I schools on a regular basis. Enjoy Division II for what it is worth. It's a chance for young men to go to college, play basketball, have fun. But it's a LONG way from Division I.
Midwestern State and Findlay have a combined record of 39-12, that's very good wherever you're at. NKU is 9-18. DII schools beat D1 schools every year.
For example Malone University (a DII school) beat Cleveland State (a D1 school that beat NKU at home by 5) by 16 on the road.
Bellarmine, KWC, Pikeville, Georgetown, etc. are all very good in-state programs that don't play division I that would play with or beat some division I schools. If you don't want to accept that that's fine.
-
I know very little of Bellarmine except they are right down the road from us in Louisville and play Division II. I can assure you there is a HUGE difference in athletes who play Division II and Division I. One of my buddies talks with NKU coaches and they decided NOT to offer Weyer even though the previous coaching staff did because he is not a Division I player. That does not mean he is not a fine player, just that he is better off with more of a chance to excel at a small program like Bellarmine. My assessment is that he is not close to Williams, Goodin or Faulkner, and the recruiting process backs that up.
There is a huge difference between most division II schools and most division I schools. That said, Bellarmine would beat a lot of division I schools if they played (I'd bet on them beating NKU if the two played today). They've not lost once this season at home, and played three high major schools close in the exhibition season.
Now, NKU certainly has a lot of momentum right now and may be better down the line, especially if they keep signing kids like Faulkner and Williams. But they still have some ground to make-up.

Being from Louisville it'd be easy to say we have the most talent by pure numbers. But for my money, Hopkinsville by size produces the most talent consistently at this time.

People really need to get on the Tilghman and Murray trains. Either team could win the 1st region and make some noise at the Sweet 16.

You've got me intrigued to check him out. 6'6 shooters are a rare commodity in NKY.
Rare in KY period. 2017 in KY has so many good shooters. J.C., Sean McNeil, Mason Blair, Preston English, etc.
-
No. I wouldn't call him lights out. He's streaky and not 6'6" either. Seen him this summer. He can play but not very fast.
He's one of the best shooters in that class. Has mid major interest right now. He's every bit of 6'5" and has one of the quickest shots as well. His quickness was a concern over the summer, but in my opinion that has more to do with overthinking his previous knee injury than anything.
I'd have him in the top 10 NKY no doubt
-
These are spot on, could argue about whether Jaylen should be #1, but I think Tyrik has earned that spot.
I will say don't be surprised to see 2017 Henderson County G Rob Dawson have a big year and end up top 10 by season's end.
-
No doubt Tyler Sharpe is #1 in the region. Also there is no doubt Ahmad Price is #2. Tony Washington may lead Fern Creek in scoring, but Ahmad will be their best player.

I think Walker is in about the right place. I am actually a little surprised he is ahead of Fuller. Fuller was second team all-region last year and I think is the player that makes Montgomery Co go.
Jones has a chance to become one of the top players in the region, but I didn't see enough from him last year to merit a top 10 pre-season ranking. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he moves his way into that group though, but it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to a new team.
I do agree with you on Wells being top 10. He was very good last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoot toward the top of the rankings this year.
I would have Art no lower than 4th, but there's probably some disconnect between where I see him as a college player at 6'4" and with his shooting ability and his effectiveness as a high school player. He played really well this summer and should have a good senior year.
-
Anyone else think Art Walker is way too low?
I also think you could make very strong cases for Jekobi Wells and Jerryd Jones to be on this list. Both had solid sophomore seasons and seem primed to take big jumps as juniors.

Ahmad Price (Fern Creek): Samford, Western Kentucky.
Steven Fitzgerald (Southwestern): Tennessee Tech
Andrew Taylor (Corbin): Stetson, UT-Arlington
JJ Reed (Paducah Tilghman): Samford
Anthony Wales (Fern Creek): Samford
TC Price (Lexington Catholic): Toledo
Ramon Mercado (Cordia): Eastern Kentucky
Those are the ones I know for sure have been offered.
-
Also forgot Ramon Mercado of Cordia. I've never seen him play but I think EKU offered this past weekend.
Assuming he is an import from another state?
Yes Ramon was offered by EKU. Just forgot honestly
-
Has Oumar Keita never gotten an offer?
Not that I'm aware of.
-
Taylor UTSA
Fitzgerald - Tenn Tech
Other 3 - Samford
Correct?
Andrew Taylor has Stetson as well.
Ahmad Price has also been offered by Western Kentucky
-
I believe at this moment 5 2018 KY kids have offers. Andrew Taylor, Steven Fitzgerald, JJ Reed, Ahmad Price and Anthony Wales.
-
I just heard about a tournament at Collins this weekend. Aside from Collins I don't know who will be there. If I find out, I'll post on here.
This is going to be one of the best showcases of the june period.
Besides obviously Collins, Ballard, John Hardin, West Jessamine, Doss, KCD, Trinity, Apollo, Bryan Station, Bullitt East, Dunbar and Williamstown are in it.
Each team is guaranteed two games, with pool play on Friday and a tournament Saturday.
-
I think Cody Woolridge from Danville should be on the list. You're not gonna tell me this kid isn't one of the top seniors in the state. Champan Bean should be on this list also from Boyle County.
Cody is on the list he's at #80 . Chapman we may have missed on.

I am speaking in reality world. If we are playing your fantasy world game, every EYBL team has the top 10 kids in their state and KY can't compete...
So does reality world include your quote which you've basically agreed was wrong or no? Or does it include the Travelers have made the Peach Jam two out of three years in Kentucky, which is considered competing consistently?
My point has been this whole time that Kentucky does produce enough talent to compete in the EYBL or any national circuit. I believe I've proven that so I'm done..
-
You are going to hang your hat on beating a team without the #1 player in the country who had the ball in his hands constantly when on the floor? We're done here... :lol2:
No but it's just one example of the Travelers beating a team with more talent, which they've consistently done the last two years.
Kevin Geary is named Head Coach of Shawnee
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)

I talked to Coach Geary in the last week or so and he told me he resigned the job in I believe June. So the job should be open unless they have hired someone else.
