  1. Looks like according to the BGP preview the 48th is as follows:

    1. Southwestern

    2. Wayne County- does not have a player mentioned as a top player in region

    3. Monticello- does not have a player mentioned as a top player in region

    4. McCreary Central- does not have a player mentioned as a top player in region.

Any comments on the district. Really sad to see McCreary fall to below Monticello.

How have these teams looked in their pre-season scrimmages?

  2. I don't think so. There are a lot of entrenched coaches in the 12th region. Obviously Jackson, Adams, Zaheri, Britt, the Jessamine guys, Wright, Woods - none of them are going anywhere. I know Don Irvine, formerly of Burgin, was interested in the job two years ago, but I highly doubt you'll see his name come up this time.

Any updates on possible candidates for this job?

  3. Did you watch any of the LCA vs Rowan game? Tyler Harville had 35 for LCA. Seventeen at half and 18 in second half. He was hitting some bombs. Rowan played several junk defenses on him. He wasn't able to quite pull it out though.

I was bouncing back and forth, but he can definitely fill it up. He has a nice supporting cast too, which makes him even more dangerous. Hoping to get there to see some of their game with Henry Clay. Be a big test for them.

  4. Watched some 11th Region teams today at KBA.

Dunbar looked really solid against Breathitt Co.

Lafayette looks to be one of the better teams in the region with their size and speed, as they beat Harlan Co.

    Rowan Co. beat LCA 79-71

Middlesboro beat Franklin by 20, but it looked like Franklin was missing some players.

Was really surprised with Model, who nearly upset Southwestern before getting beat 58-56.

Frankfort, Woodford, Bryan Station, Scott Co., and Henry Clay are also playing tonight at the KBA.

  5. How exactly do you figure Berea was the 2nd best team last year when Model beat them twice?

Excellent point- it seems like the draw has worked out the right way over the past 5 years, as you mentioned in an earlier post. It would be nice to see it seeded though.

There is rumor of a new high school in Madison Co. coming soon...maybe that will create a seeded district.

  6. Is there a reason that the KHSAA doesn't mandate all districts to seed? Seems like it should be consistent throughout the state in my opinion. I think they should all play each other twice, counting both games for seeding purposes.

Would Central vote for something like that in the 44th? I'm not sure Feldhaus would want to waste 4 games on Model and Berea.

  7. I was there and let me first off say that Model played a very scrappy hard fought game. Model outplayed Cooper tonight. With 1:10 Cooper was up 54-50 when the intentional fouling along with technicals began. I will tell you that Model deserved 100% of the technical fouls as any official being talked to by a player the way they were last night is going to result in a "T". Model's Coach allowed his kids to get technicals as I believe one player for Model recieved 2 for language. At the end of the game when fouling, you must make an attempt to go for the ball and the players for Model were simply pushing Cooper players in the back or grabbing the Cooper players with two hands. Not one of them was questionable in my opinion. If you are looking for someone to blame I would start at the top with Model's Coaching staff for allowing their player's to speak to officials, frustrated or not. Just an opinion from a basketball fan.

I agree 100% that the blame lies with our coach and players, I wasn't saying that. Not sure where you were seating, but I was behind Model's bench, and heard the one official say "if your team doesn't sit down, you'll all go back to Lexington with a technical", after our players had stood up and clapped for their team. I just thought that was unprofessional and showed a bias. I thought the intentional fouls were a little much at the end, would have been nice to see the teams decide the game. Both teams played very hard and it was a great game other than the end.

  8. I think it could be a record 4 tech and 5 intentional fouls called on Model . Very ugly game . :madman:

It was ugly, but 6 of the calls you mention were with under 1:00 to play and 5 were called by the same official. Anyone

That understands basketball knows that you foul late in the game to stop the clock and try to get the ball back. Yes, it's

intentional but you never see it called that way. It was a 3 point game with 1:30 left and they called those fouls. My son

plays for Model, and they were clearly frustrated with the officials. But, the same official called 7 of the 9 fouls you

mentioned, and yelled at the Model bench throughout the 2nd half, so I can't completely blame our kids and team.

Congrats to Cooper- you have a nice team.

  9. So had these scrimmages been sanctioned by the KHSAA, would this be a problem? I know that the KY schools had to write a letter to the KHSAA for approval to play in this event. This event has been going on for years- I remember watching a kid that went to UNC play at Rupp many years ago as a high school player in this event. Seems like poor decision making and timing by a lot of people who don't care at all about kids.
