  1. Taylor Burkart (Class of 2014)

By far the most versatile player to ever put on a NewCath uniform, Daddy’s Little Girl is the only player in NKY history to play every position in a varsity career, starting at every one but catcher.

Following her 8th grade JV season, which she was named team MVP starting at 3rd/OF, she was asked to learn how to pitch by Coach Barnes. So after her Frosh soccer season she threw 5 days a week to learn how to get the ball over the plate. My shins and the NewCath Black Box Theater curtain took a beating for about 3-4 months. It wasn’t until her sophomore year that she did the majority of her pitching. In 16 starts (24 appearances) she went 11-8 with 3 saves in 93.2 innings with 42K’s and a 3.23 ERA. The following season she only threw in 26 innings going 2-3 with 1 save, 12K’s and a .081 ERA. On April 3rd of 2013 she threw her only No-Hitter, a 5K/1BB performance against the Scott Eagles.

Although she never hit higher than 5th in the line-up, following her final HS game she had the most RBI (65) than any other Bred. She was a lifetime .287 hitter with a .374 OB%. She was a 2-time Defensive POY & 36th District All-Tourney Team, & 2014 NKSCA 1st Team.

As a freshman she started in RF,CF, LF, 2nd, & SS, committing only 1 error.

As a sophomore she started at every position but catcher, committing 2 errors.

As a junior she started in RF, CF, LF, 3rd, 1st, & P, committing 1 error.

As a senior she started in RF, CF, LF, 1st, SS, & P, and got her 1st assignment at catcher. A bad weekend at the All A State saw her commit her only 2 errors at SS and 1 at 1st. She committed 4 total on the season for a career ending .970 FLD%, highest among any 4-year varsity starter.

Seems like she was a great team player. It is always good to have a player that will play wherever the coach needs her, and will do whatever it takes to help out the team.

  2. The good Highlands teams always competed against the Ohio powerhouses. This highlands team got destroyed against them when they all played JV a couple years ago. 30+ Elder St.X Trinity. Most people who watch football know this is going to be a down year. Highlands Trinity Mayfield NCC BG are all state title game or it is a down year.

I agree and I would also include Beechwood.

  3. My take on the 2016 Team:

Chase Keller, as a senior quarterback, should bring some nice leadership to this team. Chase is an all around athlete and his ability to move around and make plays happen will be key for this BBHS team as it has been in past years. Watch out for sophomore Tyler McDonald. This kid has a big upside, has good size, very athletic and will provide help in multiple areas of the offense. Bryce Donnelly, another multi-sport athlete will factor large into this offense scheme. Bryce may be one of the fastest in NKY on the turf.

I like Jake Martin, Matthew Blank and Brady Dennis in the trenches. All three of these young men will be heavily counted on to lock it up and engage their counterparts, all have worked very hard and they each hold good frame sizes that will help this team immensely.

I'm also a fan of Derek Schadler, kid is solid, playing at the OLB position, I believe he has the quickness to suck up large quantities of field and his pure effort should make him a force. I predict he will lead the team in tackles if he stays healthy.

My sleeper is Nate Bezold. Only a sophomore, I think this kid has lots of football in front of him. Good focus and effort. Should fill gaps nicely and could turn into a nice MLB.

Good luck to the Mustangs this year. As always, it's tough to field a football team at a small school, but these kids all have heart.

BBHS will host a Green & White / Meet the Team on August 5 @ 7:00 PM at the Gilbert Ridge Practice Facility.

Is this by chance the son of Dave?

  4. Looks like Erin Boley was valedictorian of her class also.

Wow congrats to Erin. What an awesome accomplishment for this young lady. Being miss basketball and valedictorian is very special. A big congrats to Erin on both. She has a very bright future ahead of her. I look forward to following her at the next level at ND. Congrats and good luck.
