  1. Northern Kentucky represented only by the Dontel Rice invite? Can't believe Jake Burger from Holy Cross did not at least deserve an invite? MVP of All A State and a top player from the 9th along with Rice?

I agree. Saw him play in the East West all star game with all these players and he scored around 16 points which had to be one of the top scorers in the game.

  2. I can't wait for the games to start. I will be doing the clock for the games so if anyone wants to stop by and say hello, please feel free to do so.

As for surprises, I would say Cooper and Lloyd as well, but with how the region has been so wide open this season, we should probably expect a couple upsets at the regional as well.

I believe he said Player!!!!!!!!!!! not team!!!

  3. So if a really good player is on a bad team he's out? I'm talking about watching a kid play and then saying he's better than player X. Personally, I don't need a scoreboard to make that determination.

I agreed with your top seven players being the best in the 9th region. i just wanted to see each ones stats because each one does something better than the other. I dont think the kid from Latin,or Belvue,or any other players are as good as these top seven even though they may have better stats. i have seen all seven of these players play more than once. You have one point guard, two 2 guards, two centers,

and two forwards. Some dribble better, some shoot better, some pass better, some rebound better, and some defend better. They all are very good and the best of this year.

  4. Now that the regular season is over it's time to reveal , because I know you've been waiting, my top 5 (maybe 6) players in the 9th region.

    In order:

    1. Hatton

    2. Campbell

    3. Rice/Ruthsatz

    4. Berger(sp?)

McQ and Stansberry would be next.

I would like to see stats, scoring avg, rebounds, assist, steals and field goal pct on each one. Then let's look at team records and what their teams have accomplished so far to date. All of these mentioned are very fine players. I think it will depend on how far each leads their team thru the districts and regionals.

  5. 9th Region: Dixie Heights, Cov. Holy Cross 1-2

Brandon Hatton leads Dixie Heights as it seeks to repeat as 9th Region champ.

As the regular season winds down, we’re taking a look at the boys’ favorites in each of the 16 regions:

Defending 9th Region champion Dixie Heights is rated No. 1 in the 9th Region by Dave Cantrall, but right on the Colonels’ heels is Covington Holy Cross, which captured the All “A” title a couple weeks ago.

Dixie Heights (17-8) is led by sophomore star Brandon Hatton (19 ppg, 81% free-throw shooting), who’s already closing in on the school’s all-time scoring mark.

Parker Stansberry (13 ppg, 7 rpg) and Jordan Hassel (9 ppg) were also key players last season and bring leadership and experience to Coach Ken Chevalier’s team.

Holy Cross won the All “A” on Jake Burger’s last-second three-pointer against Bardstown, and Coach Erik Goetz’s Indians have maintained their momentum. They’re on a 13-game winning streak.

Burger, a senior guard, averages 23 points. He’s complemented on the inside by 6-8 junior Antonio Campbell, who averages 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Covington Catholic, rated third in the region, is led by sophomore guard Nick Ruthsatz, who averages 18 points and is shooting 80 from the foul line.

    Dave Cantrall’s 9th Region top 5

    1.Dixie Heights (17-8)

    2.Covington Holy Cross (27-2)

    3.Covington Catholic (16-10)

    4.Holmes (19-6)

    5.Newport Central Catholic (17-7)

  6. Very nice player, but I suggest you watch Dixie play. Simon Kenton is a VERY good team. No longer a sleeper.

I assume you mean Hatton who is also a very special player. But after watching both play this year. I think Ruthsatz makes everyone around him better because he is a better passer when he breaks down the defense ans can still shoot the three. Hatton does not pass as well and with the talent he has around him, he should average 6-8 assist a game. I saw one game he touched the ball 6 times and shot it 6 straight times and teamates were wide open for shots. Both are very nice players.

  7. Looks like it was a great game. Congrats to both teams and of course especially to Covington Catholic on winning it all.

It seems like Boone's JV is in this title game every year. Or is my memory playing tricks on me? Does anyone know the winners of the JV title over the past few years? It would be interesting to see if there is any correlation between a winning JV team and a winning varsity team.

I think it might have been Conner and Holy Cross in the jv championship last year.

  8. Jake Burger IMO....He has led the Indians in Scoring in the big games and hit the game winner to win the All A State Championship. The kid is a gamer and is playing great.

Campbell is a consisten double/double night in and night out but Burger has shined in the big games.

    Hatton has been pretty consistent.

Rice has had a nice 3-4 games in a row.

If player of the year means what player that means most to his team and helps them win then it is Jake Burger after tonight. They are 22-2. What else do you say and they won the all A state. Not only does he average 18 points a game and 7 rebounds a game but i believe he has 3 steals and 3 assist a game.

  9. Disagree.

Holy Cross may be more talented with McClendon and Campbell but Holmes is a much quicker and more athletic team than HC.

This will be the game where HC realizes how much they miss Avery. No disrespect to BG but I'd be willing to bet top to bottom Holmes is more athletic and quicker.

The only way HC wins this game big in an uptempo setting is if Holmes struggles from 3. These teams match up too well for it to be a blowout.

Bowling Green went 9-10 players deep from what saw and the talent drop off was not that far off. I beleiver Holy Cross's top three players Cambell, Burger and Mclendon average around 50-55 points and 20-25 rebounds a game. I dont think Holmes top three are as talented as the three. By the way Holy Cross goes 8-9 deep.
