  1. I'd think it might be better to view them as two young men who gained a ton of experience playing a lot of minutes at the Division II level for Dave Bezold at Northern Kentucky University.

Agreed, they are both solid coaches. But, just because you played college basketball doesn't make you the "right" choice. Mick Cronin is a head coach of a team that has went to the NCAA tournament 3 years in a row and didn't play 1 minute of college basketball.

  2. Would hope that the players would not be disappointed as Coach Rasso is very, very good and this lays the foundation for a really solid staff. Had the opportunity to watch Coach Rasso a few times last time year and was very impressed with his work at LLoyd.

I don't think they are disappointed in who was hired, but that they were told Friday that he still had to interview people for the job and then Saturday it's reported by Walter that he hired someone.

  3. Not a good way to start your relationship with the players. I do think though it would be best to sever the ties with the old regime. Don't want the "this is how we used to do it" being talked about in the locker room. David might be doing himself a favor by bringing in a "yes man" in Travis. I don't see Rasso putting up much criticism to David which might be good for a first year head coach.

I don't think playing at the college level necessarily makes you more qualified to coach. Dustin Margrave would've made a great choice for a JV coach or assistant varsity coach.

I do agree personally that it's best to start fresh and have an entire new staff. When you tell the kids on Friday at 3:00 that you will be conducting interviews for the JV job and then Saturday night it is on a message board he has hired a JV coach it is not the way to build trust with your players. I agree Margrave would have been a solid choice

  4. He was at Ryle until he abruptly quit just before the start of the 2008 or 2009 season. He moved to Florida to coach and then moved back to Kentucky and I believe is somewhere in Lexington or Louisville. Rumor had it he had applied, so I'm just adding 1+1 and I have no inside scoop as to the truth of my hunch.

I'd be totally shocked if it was Grammer. It sounds as if he left on bad terms. He applied last year for the JV job they had and didn't get it according to Mullins.

  5. Ryle has done a very nice job of keeping this in-house. Many of the names we're hearing as having already interviewed (officially or unofficially) or WILL interview will not end up being correct.

    Nice job by Mr Demler.

Clyde is correct. Demler has handled this well. He has spoken to a few players that have asked about who their coach will be, but given no specific names.

  6. I've been able to build a relationship with both Snapp and Blevins over the past hoops season.

Both are great candidates for this position and would have success because of the most important factor that some of you are forgetting...both relate very well with the players and know how to get the most out of their team. Who cares about wins or losses. Both are quality guys off the court and winners in life so nobody should be bashing Snapp because of where he coaches.

Snapp has done a great job at Newport with what he has been dealt. I don't think some of you realize how tough of a gig that is. Walk a day in Snapp's shoes as head coach of that program and get back to me.

Blevins has a lot of experience both at the national level of high school hoops and locally. He is just as qualified as anyone else out there.

How about we just let everything play out instead of bashing these coaches who are doing something a lot of these folks on this site simply aren't qualified to do. There are a lot of things that these coaches do for their players that some of you have no clue about.

Well said Walter. These coaches are more than just coaches for these kids. My nephew struggled with some stuff away from basketball this season and his JV coach and assistant coach were tremendous in helping him on and off the court. His exact words to me was Coach Hostetler and Coach Williams care about us as people more than winning. I know he would do anything for those coaches. Coaches get bashed way to much and not given enough credit for all the work they do for the kids that parents and fans do not see. There isn't a coach or referee that deserves to be blasted on a message board by someone that is not with them everyday at practice and games. The parents at Ryle felt the same way for the assistants and JV coach at Ryle. I have faith in the Ryle staff to choose the best person for the kids, which is what high school sports are all about.

  7. I have seen Coach Downs coach multiple times. I think his teams always play very hard for him and he seems to make good in game adjustments. I've always thought his teams were well prepared for games. I do think he's over the top when it comes to officials and how he can lay into a kid. The game at Ryle this year he went overboard with the officials at the end of the game when his team was beat. I think all in all he seems to be good for the Boone program. Some coaches just do things differently. We do not have to like it, but if the kids get better and compete at the varsity level he is doing his job as a JV coach.

  8. Wow you really know nothing about coach bowman he has coach a more af a varity of levels and coached at two different program with winning seasons that invludes at ryle. The players and parents at ryle highly repect bowman. You are totally wrong. And if i can recall coach bowmans team made the jv finals ....where was blevins ??

Why are you so defensive? I'm just stating my opinion and those of the players that my nephew hangs with. He and about 4 of his teammates all feel the same about Bowman. If you knew anything about JV basketball it's about developing and not winning. Blevins and Sullivan have developed.

  9. NA, just because I don't think they are right for the job doesn't mean I do not like them as individuals. I look at what Ryle has coming back, they will be very raw and need a lot of work. In my opinion, which i have the right to, Ryle needs someone who can build on that raw talent and draw/keep the basketball players that will come to their school. Blevins and Bowman do not have that experience yet as head coaches. This could be a rough season for Ryle and Demler and the coach will be under fire quick. This isn't Cooper where everyone knew they'd struggle out of the gate. Ryle parents have, and always will have, unrealistic expectations.

    Agreed

  10. In know for a fact coach Bowman/Blevins are both ready for their chance. Both have demonstrated they have the ability to get there kids to play hard with passion and with class. I have followed both these two young coaches since the start and their isn't a program in the district that wouldn't be lucky to have them. Every year they seem to have successful seasons on the JV level; not because of the amount of talent they have but their ability to get results without much talent. Also just because someone has more varsity coaching experience doesn't make them more qualify for the position, it all depends on what the program is looking for. Not sure what you have against coach bowman and blevins but I'm for sure you don't know either of them very well and their varsity coaching potential. Anyone who has seen these two guys over the years, would agree.

I have watched both coach a lot in the last 3 years and Blevins is far superior than Bowman in my mind. Better game manager, better sideline demeanor and way better handling officials. The kids would be happy with Blevins, most of them has said they would be very disappointed if Ryle hires Bowman

  11. Let me echo the sentiments about Drew Mays. Great kid and actually played pretty well tonight. He dropped some dimes that a couple of his teammates didn't finish on.

I was also surprised to see Mullins sit all the seniors and put the JV kids in...the student section let him know about it as well. Talked to a guy a couple weeks ago that I see at the gym all the time, who is good friends with Alan....I'd be surprised to see him on the Ryle bench next year.

Congrats to Covcath on the win. Bo Schuh is playing with a lot of confidence right now. I'll have the post game interview with Coach Ruthsatz up later.

I have a nephew on the team and he said it was ugly last night. I feel awful for the kids. I was not at the game but talk to him when he got home. He said he loves the other players and coaches but has a tough time playing for Mullins. I hope it works out best for the kids.

  12. The rule is clear. Backboards are not part of the equation.

You don't see it happen much anymore due the backboards being pretty solid.

My guess is the rule will never change.

I understand the backboards are not, but by slapping them they cause the basket to move. I have seen it happen about 3 times in about 18 games this year. It does not happen much I agree, but the backboards that hand from the ceiling will move when slapped
