  1. IMHO....lol!!! Everyone has one, the N.F.L.  is not a good product anymore. For a variety of reasons but, I'll just go with one. You have a league which is supposed to be the best of the best, that run a lot of stuff that is done at the high school/college level. Mainly offense. The shotgun. The wildcat. The pistol. The R.P.O. Whatever happened to lining up, and just kicking some butt!!! I know guy's , I'm old. But to me, less is more, and the old K.I.S.S. method  still works. We are not trying to split the atom !!! It's football!!!  I'm 63.... 1980/1990, maybe early 2000's,  was when the N.F.L. had their best  run for me.   things could change, but I doubt it.....lol! Just one mans opinion. Merry Christmas people!!!

    Well, that was quick visit.

By the way, I'm just about done with listening to the John Sadak guy.  He HAD to have been the cheapest announcer on the planet when the Reds signed him to do TV.  All the stats this guy fires out I think its just to hear himself talk and boy does he ever.  A lot of it is overkill and meaningless in my opinion.  I mean who gives a flyin' monkey how fast a dribbler came off a bat on a Sunday with the sun in your eyes after 5pm???  It's nuts!  Turning the radio on to listen to Tommy Thrall isn't that much better either.  😐

Totally agree! The guy is just bad. Tired of the stats and Analytics !!! Don't care if it's 110 off the bat,and caught for a out!!! He has nothing!!! No stories to fill time, between the 7,8,9...pitching changes a game. This is what the game has become. Unwatchable!!! There is also ,no one who says anything bad about this team. You listen to ALL of the reds announcers, you'd think they were 30 games over .500.  I'm ALMOST....to the point, that i may, might, and maybe, have someone put a gun to my head, and watch soccer. I said ,ALMOST!!!. Baseball has become a joke. IMHO!!!

I went to high school with a really good pitcher name Steve Ahlers, there were a couple of times he pitched on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  With all that said, he was, and still is, a beast of a man.

Played amateur ball against Steve. Great guy. He could throw it!!!

Go to some of these weekend tournaments.  It's just stupid.  No pitching rules as they rely on coaches to manage their players workload.  10 and 11 year olds throwing over 100 pitches a game or day just to win a $5 ring.  Kids as young as 9 trying to throw curve balls, and just snapping the elbow trying to do so.

I have very strict pitch counts with my teams that I don't sway on.  I manage the workload of my catchers that also pitch.  They don't follow the same pitch counts as my field players do.  To me, it's just not worth risking the health of my players.  I grew up with too many guys that were stud pitchers as kids, but by the time they reach high school, their arms were shot.

Totally agree with everything you said. It's gotten ridiculous! Just my opinion, but sometimes i feel , we as adults, don't let kids be kids anymore. A lot of it.... IS parents!!! No reason for 10/12 year old's ,playing 100 games every spring/summer/fall. IMHO!!! ...lol!  I get where your coming from though.

I've never been able to find any solid evidence that curveballs pose a significant threat to young (or old) arms. In fact there are more than a few biomechanics studies that say the opposite. Not to mention the unscientific evidence you see every day of hard throwers at the professional levels being the ones with the most arm trouble. There are so many factors (such as size, fitness, arm strength, etc) that singling out curveballs as the number issue for young (or any arms) is at best misleading. Sliders and maybe split fingers, yes. But in 40+ years of baseball I've never met a curve ball, average fastball pitcher with a sore arm that needed surgery.

Didn't mean to "single out" curve balls!!! Believe what you want to believe. No problem! My point was ,there to many other things that come into play besides pitch count. Personally , i have coached high school for 20 years. Done it all. Knothole, select, frosh,jv,varsity. head coach at a school. The one thing have had with all the programs i've been with,as far as teaching pitching,we push pitch location [fastball],and teaching a change up that can be thrown for strikes. I get what your saying, but if it's my kid, probably not throwing curves till 13/14 years old. As i said, that is not set in stone. If the kid is bigger,or is more polished, then we go from there.Everyone has their take. i get it!

  6. Not going to defend anything coaches do. Not defending pitch counts. I will say, there's always a few coaches, that make the rest look bad. As far as what's been said so far,i do believe some of these coaches play to many games.I would like to see it go to to 28/30 games max !!! One thing people don't realize,as far as pitch counts, that once these players go play summer/fall ball, there are no pitch counts!!! I ask butch cope about this a few years ago ,as we talked about some things at the state baseball conference . Apparently the khsaa has no say in summer/fall leagues. I do find it ironic that some people complain about pitch counts [throwing too many pitches] but  have their players throwing curve balls at age 10/12 . hmmmmm!!!! I think it would help if the khsaa , and the summer/fall leagues got on the same page. Also, pitch counts can also be dictated by each different player, depending on size and age. My point...."one size doesn't fit all". Just some observations form someone that's been around a little bit....lol!  Cheers gentlemen. Have a good one.

They don’t make ‘em like they used to.   Makes me pine for the days of Wilbur Wood.

    Wilber Woods 1973 season.  24-20  3.59 era  359 innings  48 starts !!! That's almost  2 seasons for these guy's now.....LOL!  It's a shame what's happened to baseball. I don't watch as much anymore. It's almost unwatchable!    imho  Cheers!

We can only hope that Bell has the same success as Dusty Baker. That would be great.

As long as Bell is manager, this team will win nothing! To compare him to dusty,is a insult to Baker. Again, just Cincy fans settling for mediocre !!! IMHO !!!

  9. Amen on Brantley managing this team. I'm not going to get started on the current manager, except...everyone i talk to around here in baseball circles, not a fan!!! But hey, he's the son,and grand son of ex-reds. Which apparently is all the managing credentials you need to manage a major league team in Cincinnata !!! [ using the Sparky Anderson pronunciation] btw....The bullpen will be done by July!!!

  10. I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice how annoying Mr. Sadek is. It's always tough trying to move into new territory, but man.... right now, he needs to just call the game. I liked him the first 2/3 games i watched, but the whole over the top [in my opinion] with the analytics, dude ...give it a break!!!! If i have to here him talk about...."exit velocity", "launch angle", "swing and miss rate",  i think I'm going to "launch angle" , my t.v. into the woods behind my house!!!! I realize this stuff is the flavor of the decade right now, but trying to throw out every little piece of statistical info is ridiculous !!! [minutiae!]  Most people could care less!!! I'm willing to give him till July.  Tommy Thraw sounds like a solid announcer to me. Cowboy is cowboy! It's to bad though, that there is nobody who will call the players out for sub par play. Looks like they are all company men.[the announcers]  I miss Marty's  "call it like i see it' attitude . Things change.I get it! Anyway, just one man's humble opinion. Later gentlemen.

  11. All the above comments are true. No argument there. Not sure if everyone who posted was a where, that the field on route 8 was built on a land fill. They have always seemed to have trouble with the infield "sinking" in spots. They have trucked in a lot of dirt over the years to try and correct the problem. Not sure what else they could do. It is a nice complex,in theory, if the ground would co-operate .....lol!!! Anyway, just wanted to "fyi" for people.

  12. Been watching UK basketball since the days of Issel,Pratt,Casey,Steele. Have never had to watch a team that looks so bad on the offensive end. [ Defense not much better]  I've seen better offensive sets at pick up games at the "Y" !!! Never been a big Cal fan,but i will cut him a little slack. You will have a off year from time to time. My biggest problem... this team hasn't really gotten any better in three months!!! Keep doing the same stuff ,about every game. It is really hard to watch this team play....So I'm not!!!!       Later gentlemen.

Simple terms this team is an elite shot blocking team. That’s the only part of this KY team that is elite. Most of these kids most of the time get blown by on the dribble with little to zero help defense. They give up more layups and dunks then any team ever at KY.

    AMEN BROTHER!!! .....  AMEN!!!

  14. I wouldn't worry about it. khsaa is not going to worry about kids getting together on their own...at least i don't think so....lol!!!But, you never know with that group. I do think they will cancel spring sports. Was hoping maybe they could have salvaged a 10/15 game season. Then try to work a tournament in,but the way things are being shut down, probably won't happen. Lets try to stay positive though. The next two weeks will tell the story,i believe. Stay strong gentlemen!!!

  15. It's the browns!! Doesn't make any difference what they do. If they keep him,he'll just do something else stupid. Probably get suspended again. If they let him go,he'll go somewhere else, rush for 2,000 yards,20 TD's ,become NFL- MVP!!!

    I'm a browns fan,so I'm pretty use to most things going wrong...lol!!!

    It is,what it is.

  16. Growing up in the late 60's ,and 70's, I loved baseball. I am 59 years old. That being said,i have always...and will always be a reds fan!!! The people who have made the funny comments about Concepcion being referred to as "e" ...a lot of balls he got to,and made bad throws on,or booted, were given errors. most ss's don't get to them!!! Official scorers were a lot tougher on their decisions back then.[Not like now, were players are given HITS on those type plays] I'm not going to get into that, but I'm going to be bias and say he belongs. Lets not forget,Concepcion started playing regularly in "72". Ozzie came along around "77-78", with San Diego. Sorry for my memory. Concepcion was great defensively , and a pretty good offensive ss. [Remember..before Ripken and Larkin] as far as other ss at the time, there were some dam good defensive ss's. Kessinger,Brinkman,Belanger,Maxvill,Bowa,Alley,Spier,Harrelson...blah,blah,blah...lol!!! but not as good offensively as Concepcion.

anyway,I think Concepion was the best from the "70''s,because he was the total package...back then!!! I think one year he even hit 16 home runs. He could steal bases also. I think he should be in...but I'm a reds fan!!! Sue me!!! ...lol

Problem is,ss's are a different breed now. They hit home runs.drive in runs. That wasn't the standard back then. A man shouldn't be penalized for playing in a time when things were different. Everything changes over time. Doesn't help he played on one of the top 5 teams in baseball history, with 4 hof'ers on it. Yes,I'm counting Pete..even though he's a jerk!!! Anyway, just one man's opinion. Hope he gets in before he dies. Later gentlemen.

  17. As far as Nashville goes, been there several times. Had a great time! Love the city. As far as ESPN,there's a reason they are losing viewers, and ratings points. I only watch when i have to. Usually u.k. basketball. To each his own though. I watched the N.F.L. channel. Loved it. .....GO BROWNS!!!!
