  1. I too think Boyle and Bell are on similar levels right now. If they meet in the playoffs its gonna be another great game. It will come down to who can impose their will on the other team and make big plays. Cant wait for that game. Wasnt Bell's loss to Alcoa, TN?

  2. Maybe, but, I feel Ft Campbell would easily handle Lone Oak, likely 3+ scores and I also feel they would handle Lex Cath very similarily..I think it would be a tossup..I definately don't think they would be out talented, by any means. Likely the other way around. Ft Campbell most likely has more D1 prospects than Boyle does. I know that doesn't mean they would automatically win, but, it does usually mean they would hold there own..

I defenitely think they would hold their own. Im not saying Boyle is completely superior.

  3. I'm not even sure of the level of D1 talent on Ft. Campbell but I would almost guarantee they have Boyle outdone in D1 prospects. Boyle may have a couple at best. I wish the two could play I think it would be similar to the Paducah Tilghman vs. Boyle game a few years back in the playoffs when PT had Hunter Cantwell.

  4. Here is the list from KHSAA website containing past winners:

    PAST MR. FOOTBALL AWARD WINNERS

    Player (School) College

1986 Frank Jacobs (Newport C. Cath.) Notre Dame

1987 Kurt Baber (Paducah Tilghman) Southern California

1988 Jeff Brohm (Trinity-Louisville) University of Louisville

1989 Pookie Jones (Calloway Co.) University of Kentucky

1990 Damon Hood (Warren Central) University of Kentucky

    1991 Scott Russell (Evarts) Lees-McRae/Union

1992 Billy Jack Haskins (Paducah Tilghman) University of Kentucky / Rhode Island University

1993 Jeremy Simpson (Lincoln County) Cumberland College

1994 Shaun Alexander (Boone Co.) University of Alabama

1995 Tim Couch (Leslie Co.) University of Kentucky

1996 Derek Homer (Fort Knox) University of Kentucky

1997 Dennis Johnson (Harrodsburg) University of Kentucky

1998 Jared Lorenzen (Highlands) University of Kentucky

1999 Travis Atwell (Hancock County) Toledo/University of Kentucky

2000 Montrell Jones (Male) University of Tennessee

2001 Jeff Duggins (Boyle County) Alford State, NY

2002 Michael Bush (Male) University of Louisville

2003 Brian Brohm (Trinity (Louisville)) University of Louisville

2004 Curtis Pulley (Hopkinsville) University of Kentucky

2005 Micah Johnson (Ft. Campbell) University of Kentucky

2006 Douglas Beaumont (Male) University of Louisville

2007 Corey Robinson (Lone Oak) Troy University

On this list you can see a few that did not go Div 1 and/or did not do well in Div 1 (Can we count Pulley at UK if he transferred?)

So I don't think Div 1 has nearly as much to do with it as one thinks.

In Duggins case I think the telling factor was the "body of work" over 3 years. Right or wrong, I think it was a factor. (hard to go 45-0 and it not be )

44-0 He had to sit out a game after getting in a fight with Harrodsburg over a play that broke Jacob Tamme's leg.:idunno:

  5. Boyle crushed 6A Lafayette a week after they beat Henry Clay. Boyle could have scored 90 if they wanted to. Did have a bit of a let down in the second half of the Catholic game. But when you score enough points in the first 4 minutes of a game to beat a team that is also considered one of the best in the state thats pretty impressive. This years Highlands team seems to be on another level but Boyle held their own in that series as well a few years back when they played each season.

  6. All the damage was done in the first few minutes of the game for boyle. Mcshara broke off a couple of 70+ yard runs and looked be to clicking early. Second half was a different story with Catholics D stepping it up. A potent short passing game kept Boyle on its heels the second half. Boyle's D didn't break though and held on enough to get the win. Good test for the rebels.
