  1. As Skinny mentioned Regional Games did not count but if your talking about the fans voting for 8 Reds "way back in the day", (I was seven and remembered it well) I believe it was the last time that the MLB allowed something like that to happen.

    1957 All-Star Game

Controversy surrounded the 1957 outing as the fanatical Cincinnati voters stuffed the ballot boxes and elected nearly their entire team (minus first baseman George Crowe & the batboy) onto the National League's starting roster. This upset Commissioner Ford Frick greatly and he responded by removing Gus Bell and Wally Post from the starting nine. He also transferred the responsibility for All-Star voting to the players, managers and coaches the next year.

BTW winning one game in the Regional by Mr. Kuebbing doesn't over shadow the entire year worth of work by Cain and Bartells who won the All "A"! How many starts did Kuebbing miss that Cain and Bartells didn't?

So again as I mentioned in my first post name your All Star team and as I said, wanna bet you get fans to complain about your choices.

TOG I know you can't keep everyone happy with the choices that were made. However, if you want to use the argument on merit alone throughout the season. Then truly most of Ryle's starting lineup should have been selected in this year's All-star game.Research all of their stats from top to bottom and you will see most everyone of them should have been included in the All-Star game based on stats..some stats are much better than those that were voted for from other schools. Including, the coach winning his 400th game this year and taking Ryle to State for the 2nd time in 21 years. What does a coach have to do to get the Coach of the Year Award these days? I am not belittling Bob Mullin's accomplishments at Beechwood. Kind of makes you wonder if these coaches voting really scout who the better players and coaches are on the other teams. On the other hand, if you want to keep it fair with every school in the region, then at a minimum there should have been at least one player from every school, even if that meant having 3 teams. There was a lot of good talent across the board, that was snubbed for their efforts. I am really questioning the lack of choices that were not made from Dixie's team and Cooper's team. I know Cov Cath always has their fair share of players in every years' All Star game because of who they are and publicity and favoritism etc etc. . And as far as the All 'A" ? A great tournament but it is not the Regionals where the 1 A teams play 3 and 4 and 6 A teams at the end of the year.

  2. Name your All Star Team but wanna bet that whomever you mention, someone will say, why didn't you put so and so on it?

I have seen each and everyone of the kids mentioned on the list and those each of you have mentioned, most more than once and it's hard for me to say which one was better than the other but the list was voted upon.

    Below is just my opinion:

How much of the season did Kuebbing miss being out with his injury? That might have been one of the factors

Who won the mighty all "A" tourney didn't Cain and Bartels pitch NCC to winning the Championship and not Kuebbing nor Suchaneck?

Hellbird, how many games did AJ Collions miss while on vacation during the baseball season? Could that have been a factor?

Tom, do you want the entire Ryle team as the All Star team? There were three already on the team!

Yes, but didn't Keubbing win in the Regionals for St. Henry? Didn't Cain get beat in the Regionals? As good as Cameron Fogle is, didn't he miss several games for Conner due to injuires in getting ready for UK football? Didn't the Cincinnati Reds have 8 all stars on the Natl. League all star team at one time. Didn't Campbell County only lose by one run in the regional finals to Harrison County and wasn't Tyler Walsh on the mound that day as well as his outstanding senior season? Mason Forbes is the Regional MVP and no mention of him on the list? Didn't Dixie do better in the Regionals than NCC this year (when it really counted)? Actually, didn't St. Henry do better this year than Highlands with Kuebbing on the mound? I have a feeling when the votes came in .... the season wasn't over and frankly still isn't for 16 teams.

  3. have to agree with old bull dog all kids deserving but publicity plays big role like dixie being runner-up in region and no one on all star team campbell county in same boat. Guess just not enough publicity. Walsh going to Kentucky Weslyn and Franzen going to Georgetown

Actually, why are they even voting yet for anyone until the high school baseball season is over? I do believe this was a messed up way of picking your all-stars.

  4. Great post Coop! This should be a fantastic game Harrison County has two really Good pitchers in Brandon Kendall and of course Jordan Martin. With Justin Hoard, Ethan Brennan, and Josh Bellew I look forward to seeing who starts for the raiders as well. Lets see if the hitting for Harrison County can compete with the pitching of Ryle, and the hitting for Ryle can compete with the stellar pitching of HC. Should be a very fun game to watch.

  5. Boo, that would make sense if both were district winners but I think in this case Dixie should have been home team. If Dixie was the home team, they would have scored 5 in the bottom of the seventh for another walk off!!:walk::ylsuper: jk Congrats Raiders!!

Technically, if you took the season record of the two teams playing each other, Ryle beat Dixie 11-1 at Ryle, and 3-2 on Dixie's home field. And Ryle beat St. Henry during the regular season and yet they were the visiting team during the semifinals.. So I think really the whole idea of who is the home team and who is not during the regionals, should be chosen based on the merit of the regular season and head to head competition if the teams making the regionals are involved.

  6. Ryle do us all proud!!!!!!

so excited to see so many of my friends represent down state...Mason Forbes, Justin Hoard, Colt Cordrey and Thomas Baumann, all of whom played with my son on several teams growing up....so proud of you all and I hope your parents enjoy this ride. Do us all proud and bring home a ring!!!!!!!

I am so very proud of the boys from Union, Ky. It is only the second time in 21 years that Ryle has gone to the State Tournament in baseball. The last time was in 2007. Let's keep it going for 4 more games and bring the hardware to NKY this year!!! GO RAIDERS!!!!!

  7. Believe it or not but bunting from this years CovCath team on Turf has been outstanding.

CovCath has played 2 games at Florence on the Turf (BB and St. Henry) and won both.

CovCath has played 1 game at NKU on the Turf (NCC) and won.

CovCath has played 3 games at LexCath on the Turf (LexCath and 2 vs. Louisville St. X) and went 1-2.

So on the Turf this season CovCath is 4-2, with the two losses to the #1 and #3 teams in the state at the time!

    So... Your point

  8. I disagree with that statement. I actually thought that the blue in this region did a subpar job this year in calling games. It might have been consistent in your favour more so than not. However, it was far from being consistent for everyone.. Thus, "home cooking" even in N.KY at times.

For me at least, Blues have done a very good job this season.

This year the Ball/Strike zone has been consistent and that's all anyone can ask for.

Blue has been in position to make the calls and again that is all you can ask for and they are closer to the play than anyone.

The assignor who oversees Blue does a good job and BTW is a nice guy to deal with

I too wish there were more Blue but indeed it is so much easier to be a Blue from the stands, than on the field and indeed they earn their pay

As far as the HBP goes. The batter owns the batters box and as long as he is not leaning over into the strike zone IMHO it's a HBP and BTW there is no rule (that I am aware of) that say's the batter has to move out of the way of a pitch!

  9. Should be a great one. It'll be interesting to see if Ryle's defense pick it up. They have all the offense in the world with Tyler mason, Jackson Brennan, Mason Forbes, and Thomas Baumann. Yet as corny as it sounds "Defense wins championships" and Boone looked pretty solid in all aspects tonight against Conner. Offensively came around too, it'll be interesting to see trey Ganns, Darien Huff, and the Rebels against the Raiders of Ryle. Let me know your opinion.

  10. I was sitting up the third base line and didnt have a good veiw. But from my angle I think the ump overreacted on this play.Is it just me or has the umping this year been sub standard?I thought this was a good game for a fan to watch but in my opinion both teams played very sloppy baseball.

I think what everyone has forgotten in this collision at first base, was the issue of a very bad throw from the ss and the firstbasemen making an outstanding play to hang on to the ball in the runners path as the collision took place, while the 1B saved what yet could have been another error from the Ryle infield. They are going to have to play whole lot better if they want to continue to advance.

  11. I'm not sure about the forearm. My angle was in a tough position to see it, but I don't think it was on purpose. And I do believe it was hathorn that was ejected. Yet I could be wrong; all I know is the kid was a very good size probably about 6'3 to 6'4

  12. Big game by 3-4-5 hitters from Ryle. Mason Forbes (2-4 with 5 RBIs)... Tyler Mason (3-4 with 1RBI and excellent defensive performance).. Thomas Baumann( had a big double off the fence)... Controversy in the last inning when there was a ground ball to Lonnemann at short and he mad a high throw to Tyler mason at 1st. Tyler Mason did the only thing he could do which was catch the ball yet it caused him to go towards the base line and the runner accidentally ran into him. It looked pretty bad which caused the runner to be ejected though it was no ones fault! The umpires got it wrong on this one. Tyler mason made a fantastic play hanging in there knowing he was about to get plowed but the runner had no other choice. No way he should've been ejected. I hope Tyler mason is okay he's a heck of a player. like I said it looked rough from my point of view and I hope the runner is ok I believe he hit was the one who hit the grand slam to tie the game up earlier in the game. Great game by both tes

  13. The most irritating thing to me were the "home cooking " inconsistent umpires and their calling of games this year. Especially during the tournaments around Louisville and Lexington. They seemed to be more obvious this year than they normally are . No wonder some teams are ranked as high as they are when you can have an umpire in your back pocket on your home field half the season.
