  1. If they were held back it is legal, if it is done before 8th grade. So I guess it is a non-issue. Ask Paintsville if they held anyone back when they won the state title. Ask all of these schools around the Lexington area how they continue to get transfers from some of the states top players.

  2. You are wrong 3Ball. I call it like I see it on the radio. Sure, I want East to win, but I do not put on Raider colored glasses. I am not a homer by any stretch. If East gets a break, I let you know, if they get hosed, I say that as well. I give the kids on each team as much credit as they deserve and try never to let where I went to school influence how I see the game. QUOTE]

I have listened to GoRadio broadcast many games and every bit of this statement is true. He is by the books, if he sees East or whatever opponent get a bad call he is going to enlighten the fans with his opinion of the call whether it is favorable or not. Sure he is going to pull for his team as you and I would too, but he is as good as it gets in calling a game in high school sports.

Great job tonight and all season long, Go Radio you are a pleasure to listen too. The best in this area, if you ask me.

  3. Elliott may not be as good as they are saying.

    Are you kidding me?

Elliott beat Ballard, Mason, and Anderson County All top 15 teams. Not to mention a slew of teams that were highly rated out of state. South Charleston has not lost a game since Elliott beat them by over 20. S. Charleston have won 20 straight or so.

East Carter is a very good team. This game was at East. I knew that this would be a tough game from the beginning. I was happy with the win. They proved they could win a close game with everything on the line.

  4. East Carter could not win that game tonight. The officials weren't about to let the #2 team in the state get beat out in the first round of the districts.

Ask the Elliott fans if they think they got a fair officiated game tonight. They probably think it was about as fair as you do. I heard the announcer on the Grayson radio station say multiple times that East got away with a walk or a foul. The foul count doesn't mean everything in the game. I know I counted 4 or 5 times the announcer say that an East player got away with a walk.

Believe me there are plenty of people that want to see Elliott county get beat, why I don't know. They have the best chance to do well in the state tournament of any team. It would be nice that 16th region teams stick together against other region's opponents. But we have a couple neighboring counties that are jealous of Elliott's success. That is a fact.

  5. Congratulations to Elliott Co. I thought East had their number tonight, but unfortunately for the Raider, Elliott had two teams playing for them.

BTW the other team I am referring to had 3 players wearing striped shirts and one is supposedly rated #1 in the region??

    Terrible officiated game.

Typical. I heard alot of bad calls both ways. Take it for what it was East played great. Elliott is the better team.

  6. With only about 7,000 people in an economically-depressed county like Elliott, I'm betting there are maybe 500 subscribers to TDI county-wide. With no EC businesses willing to advertise in TDI, and knowing the company that owns TDI like I do, I would be surprised if home delivery to EC continues for too much longer.

That's ashame, I know alot of people in the area that really enjoy the paper. I live in Ashland now, so it is not a problem for me. If it is that small of percentage of people subscribing to it, I don't see it as economically feasable. There must have been a large drop in subscribers over the last several years. Ten years ago there was a paper box every where you looked in the county.

  7. Wonder how many advertising dollars come from Elliott County and how many subscribers live in Elliott County? My guess is very few of either.

I would bet your guess would be wrong then. The Daily Independent is the major form of news in Elliott County. The Elliott County newspaper only comes out once a week. The Daily Independent is home delivered daily to many residents. My family that lives in Elliott County have been diligent subscribers for many years. I don't think the Daily Independent is going to send someone daily to deliver the paper daily for a few people, if it is not economically beneficial. So I would say Elliott has just as much right as anyone else to have their teams in the paper.

That being said, I believe the Daily Independent has done a marvelous job covering the Elliott County Lions. Yes, the Ballard article was short and sweet, but we don't know the circumstances behind it. There may not have been enough room to put a larger article in the paper. Also, the paper has to have advertising to run, so I have no problem with the ads. Kudos to the Daily Independent the #1 source of information for the Elliott County Lions. Thanks again. :thumb:

  8. They must have rested while still in the game since four of the starters scored 74 of the 80 points. I would have thought the "resting" was on the bench while the little used reserves played some.

That's right they didn't score when the starters out of the game. The starters were out the majority of the second and all of the 4th, except Timmy. Check out the scoring in the 4th quarter if you don't believe it. They couldn't have scored many in the 4th. The subs played a great deal last night with a few starters sprinkled in the 2nd.

  9. That's what I was thinking. So technically, both of the Knipp boys should be at West Carter...correct? Or is it open enrollment that you can attend either school?

I believe you can attend either school. I know people that did, anyways that lived in opposite counties. But I attended all of my years at Elliott county, but I have a Olive Hill mailing address.

The Knipps could have played at either, if the rules are still the same as they were. I would consider them Elliott County boys, because they have been here since elementary school. My daughter is in second grade and if she plays bball at her new school, then I would consider her homegrown even though she attended another school in 1st grade, because she will have spent the majority of her school years at this new school. I certainly did not move her due to atheltics. So I guess it depends on your definition of homegrown. Personally I feel that these boys are homegrown, due to spending the majority of the years in Elliott.

  10. Not to get off topic, but aren't the Knipp boys originally not from Elliott County, but rather moved there during late elementary school, early middle school?

I am originally from Elliott County, but I had an Olive Hill mailing address. The school bus that came by my house was from Elliott County, but my mail was delivered to the post office in Olive Hill. I know many people that lived on the Elliott County side that attended West Carter and vice versa. So I could have went to either school, if I chose to and played ball. There is definitely a grey area in the general route 504 area in Elliott/Carter area.

  11. You know, those kinds of games often come against the better teams on your schedule.

Shelby Valley is a well-coached team that has the personnel to cause Elliott some problems. I dare say that had something to do with the outcome.

The Massey Ratings rank Elliott County's average opponent about a point better than Shelby Valley's average opponent.

Massey ranks Elliott's schedule as the state's 33rd-toughest, with Shelby Valley at #42.

Did I not say that Elliott's schedule was tougher. If you were at the game it was clear that Elliott missed alot of open shots. They also missed a few wide open layups that Shelby Valley's defense had nothing to do with. Elliott has played against some good defensive teams and faired far better in other games. Hopefully, you will get to find out how good Shelby Valley's defense is, if they meet again. I said Shelby Valley was a top 5 team, but I have watched both play multiple times and Elliott wins 7 out of 10, if they play them ten times. Also, I would bet anything that Elliott plays in a tougher region than SV. I would put East Carter, West Carter, and Morgan County (All in Elliott's district) against anyone else in the 15th besides SV. I believe any of these three teams would be number 2 in the 15th right now.

  12. It's real tough to say that though considering SV had a 10+ point lead the majority of the game and them missing 11 straight free throws was the only reason EC hung around. SV very well could have won by 20+.

I am not sure about your math on this one. If they missed 11 free throws and they only won by 3, I don't think they could have won by 20. One thing is consistent on this site Eta will always find a way to belittle Elliott and the opponents that they have beat. I remember him posting last week that Mason was a legitimate top 10 team and Elliott would have alot of problems with them, but now they were overrated. Hopefully, Elliott will have a few more miracles in their sleeve when state tournament rolls around. I hope they don't dissapoint you Eta.

I have watched 20 plus Elliott games every year the last 4 years and the Shelby Valley game was a bad as I have saw them play the last 2 years. I have saw Shelby Valley play a few times as well. I would love to see Shelby Valley get Elliott's best effort. I hope they do meet again at the state tournament, if both teams are fortunate enough to make it there. That being said Shelby Valley is a very good team, a top 5 team. If you believe that Shelby Valley got Elliott's best effort that game, then go ask S. Charleston, Ballard, Mason County, or some the teams that they played in the beach ball classic how well Elliott played that game.

I agree Elliott should be around 3rd or 4th in the state right now. Elliott has a better record than SV and they lost by 3 to them, so it is not ridiculous that Elliott be ranked ahead of them. But Eta argues that SV should be ranked ahead of them. Elliott is 24-2 and SV is 24-4 and I would be so bold to say Elliott has played the tougher schedule of the two. However, Holmes just got beat by Boone Co who has a 20-4 record, so shouldn't they be ranked ahead of Holmes 25-2 since they just beat them by more than SV beat Elliott. Do I honostely feel that Boone should be ranked ahead of Holmes? no. Do I think SV should be ranked ahead of Elliott? no.
