  1. The Lakers pull the big upset at home tonight. By far the biggest win by a 4th Region team this year. It's a big reversal from earlier in the week when Russell County fell at home to Barren County. Big reversal from earlier this year when they were dropped by Pulaski County and Southwestern by double digits. And lastly, a reversal from last year when the Lakers lost by 16 to Madison Central.

Just for full disclosure, Russell was without Barton Mann, their starting 6'4 senior forward against Barren due to a ankle sprain.

  2. The region at-large probably doesn't appreciate the last three years of the Bowling Green/Warren Central show all that much, but should resign themselves to the fact they will see it for the next two years as well. Both teams have extremely talented sophomore classes that will ensure they remain at the top for those two years, which is to say nothing of the fact that those two teams have continued to dominate their district and area all the way down to 7th grade.

Nacarius Fant should be POY in the region the next two years.

I dont see any way Tyler Robertson of Russell County does not get region POY next year. He has averaged over 20ppg the past two seasons while gathering 1st team all-region honors. His good showings in the regional tournaments the past two years greatly helps his resume. Fant is a great player and scorched Russell in the region, but next year Robertson will be the top player in the region with Fant a very close second, or even 1b.

  3. Most of that is based on their win over Warren Central in 2009. They usually have a solid team, but they have never made it to the region finals, and that '09 win is their only one over a legit contender.

I would say they were a legit contender in 2010 when they battled eventual champion Central to the wire in the first round.

  4. RC is on a nice little roll. They probably played their worst ball of the season here in Mason County's holiday tournament, but it looks like they've put that behind them.

That is understandable, since their leading scorer, rebounder, playmaker and top player Tyler Robertson was unable to play in any of the 3 games in Mason County. Understandablly, the lakers went 0-3 during that time.

  5. Nick Britt is the real deal. He has all the tools of a great running back. He might be small, but he runs with enough power and leg drive to shake off tacklers. He has great vision. I dont know how many times I've seen him cut back all the way across the field for a long TD. I definitely believe he has the skill to play lower level D1. Some program will take a chance on him. The better RC does this year the more publicity he will and should get. He makes them go.

  6. The Britt kid is unbelievable. He followed up his first week showing of 350+ yards and 5 touchdowns with 229 yards and 3 td's on 16 carries tonight. His TD runs tonight were of 79, 46, and 51 yards. He can take it to the house anytime he touches it. I don't beliebe anyone in Russell's new district has enough speed to stop him consistently.

  7. Trust me, this is a different Danville squad than last years. Didn't the Jumpers lose about half the starters on both sides of the ball from last year?

No I believe you are incorrect. Somerset returns almost every starter from last other than the o line which have proved to be a lot better than anybody expected they would be. I believe 9 starters from the defense return which averaged about 12 points given up per game last season. They also return every skilled position on offense.

  8. Some quick notes: I don't think Lex Cath will be #1, but they're defending state champs so the spot is theirs to lose (side note to quick note: I didn't think Lex Cath would be #1 last year either). No way do I know much about all 16 regions in Kentucky, but I did try to include at least one team from each region...thoughts based much on last years record and how many players they have returning. Terrible logic, I know. Anyway, enjoy...and please, tell me how bad I messed this up.

Good to see Russell County getting some recognition.

  9. Trinity definately hit the ball better, but Russell's pitching was just as good except for one inning. It seemed like both teams were using the kids in the lower end of their rotation. The first two runs by Trinity should have never been allowed to happen, but thats baseball. It could have went either way I guess. They both have solid clubs and I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see Trinity playing for the state championship in a month.
