  1. There has been a lot said about the talent on this Highlands team including the D1 commitments. However, there is one player that rarely receives the accolades he deserves. He plays wherever he is needed defensively and hits wherever he is needed in the lineup. He is a gamer and flat out gets the job done in every aspect of the game. The people around this program know how important Sammy Hennigan is.

  2. Happy for the Birds! They move on. The first half they played a little like the first half of the season and the second half, they played like the end of the season. They cannot keep going back and forth if they want to reach their goal. But they won!

As for the game, it was a nail biter throughout. Especially when you know it can be your daughter's last bball game ever. It's hard to watch as a parent. I'm sure I was more nervous than her! HC played well and are always tough. They controlled most of the game, especially in the first half. They hit everything in the first half and it looked like it was going to be a long night. The Birds kept fighting and it paid off tonight. I thought Adler, Barth and Coffey did everything in their power to keep them in the game for 3 quarters. Then Leigh came to the party and took over the 4th qtr... I hope she's not fashionably late on Saturday!!! LOL! At the end of the day, its the time of the year to survive and advance.

It's a little bitter sweet for me because a great player's high school career came to an end tonight. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Deja McClendon play this game since about the 3rd grade. What a wonderful career she's had and has been an impact player in the 9th region for the last 5 years. Great player with a lot of heart. I love watching her play and the region will miss her. I won't miss being nervous as a rattlesnake every time my daughter had the ball and McClendon was on her. That I can do without. But Deja has left her legacy on this region and it's sad to see her go. Good Luck Ms McClendon!

It baffles me why you continuously reference the first half of the season when talking about Highlands playing poorly. They did start out 11-2 with quality wins over Scott, Conner, Notre Dame and a last second loss to Sacred Heart. They also won the Conner Holiday Tourney.

  3. With all due respect, this team was better than every other one with the exception of '05 and I put those two as neck and neck. No other team could flat out match their tenacity.

The change in the offensive system has enabled NCC's recent teams (last 10 years or so) to become the powerhouse that they are. In the mid 80's, they went to the state finals 3 consecutive years, winning one. Those were the days of the wishbone and they were winning on talent alone.

  4. Shining Star - McFarland won both of their games in pool play today and play tomorrow at noon on UC's main court.

In their second game, they were down by 18 with 5:00 left and came back to win. It was like they all of a sudden turned on the switch. It was awesome to watch.

  5. If the officials do not call it real close, i like Highlands, if it is called tight, i like Boone, since their is not ties, i will take Highlands by 1.

I agree completely. The game played between these two teams at Highlands was very physical because the refs allowed it to be. The physical play certainly seemed to favor HHS. IMO the way fouls are called in this game will go a long way in deciding the outcome.

  6. Who has a strong region besides the 7th and 11th? I wouldn't say the ninth is weak "balanced" might be a better word. Make your argument and match them up against the other 15 regions...

Why not Highlands??? They beat Boone head to head. :taz:

Like it or not they'll be better than Boone next year. You'll replace McFarland and Brown??? Highlands certainly won't be rebuilding they'll be re-loading returning their top 8."

What does next year have to do with this year's rankings?

  7. Here's a great little lesson for you that I've watched many time - any team is beatable on any given night. I wouldn't be so confident until I saw my team cutting the nets down.

As I recall back in '87, NewCath was unbeaten in Northern Ky and ranked in the top 10 in the state all year. Then lost to Highlands in the Regional final and ended up 28-4.
