16th region I think as of now it is a 3 team race going into the season. Those three teams are East, Fairview, and Rose Hill not in any certain order with Russell, Lewis, and Ashland as dark horses.
I would agree but I think you probably need to look at Rowan and Elliott somewhere in there.

Here's one 16th region fan who will not complain about the officials. I find it ironic, comedic, and even fitting that the 16th region fans complains about the officiating from the 9th region (and vice versa).
I'm just glad that these men and women are willing to sacrifice of their time, effort, and abilities to promote healthy competition among high school athletes. Do I take sports too seriously? You bet. Do I complain at the officials at a game? Yep. Can I do a better job than them? No way.
Oh, and Marla Gearheart? I have been to many 16th region games this year and have not seen her? Heard lots of rumors; officiating college games, starting a family, and even that she had decided to no longer call games.
Glad she's still out there. I think she has done some good officiating in the past.
I find it ironic that people start a thread and ask for opinions on refs then people get defensive when opinions are given. This thread was started by someone who wanted opinions. Thats what they are getting, both good and bad. I think everyone would agree that being a ref is NOT easy and nobody is perfect.

This was predictable.
Interesting quote from a avatar named Kouns.
:eek::eek:
-
Kouns may be the nicest man in the world...... I don't know him. But I do know he is NOT a TOP official in the 16th.
-
Kouns has been doing better and longer than anyone else.
So If I do something for a long time I'm automatically going to be better??? Interesting...... I must be great at sleeping and eating since I've done those for 40 years.

Congratulations Lewis and coach Hampton. Sometimes its good to be the underdog.

Look at the thread poll......... Kouns is on the list twice and is still not at the top !!!!!!!!! LOL
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I've played, watched as a fan, and coached in the 16th and Bob Kouns isn't even in the top 10 IMO. Do I think he is the worst.......probably not, but he is definitely not a "top" official.
I believe Marla Gearheart is probably one of the top officials in the 16th.

Only if Rowan calls timeout to allow Ashland to set it up.:ohbrother:
Now that's funny I don't care who you are.......
I'll say Rowan by 4.

I'll say Fairview by 7.

I'm thinkin a Fairview vs. Elliott final.

Ashland attacked the basket tonight which will result in more contact thus more fouls called. Rose Hill settled for jump shots. When they were hitting they had the lead, when they went cold Ashland assumed control of the game. Both teams fought hard, both coaches coached hard. Great game to watch. I didnt think the referees had anything to do with who won the game.
It's easy for a team to attack the basket when they know they won't have fouls called against them............ Evidently some people didn't watch the entire game. RH's two bigs were in foul trouble the whole game. when they weren't in foul trouble early they were dominating in the paint.
-
I agree with that about the refs but a coach should do what is needed for his team to win and advance and it did not take a rocket scientist to see they could not stop Bonner, and Ashland was getting into the paint off of the dribble when they wanted. Gregg's knee was bothering him. Plus Kennedy was having one of his better games I had saw and by going to a zone he could have played more instead of trying to guard Bonner with three or four fouls. I just think Rose Hill would have won tonight if they had played some zone. Make Ashland soot 20+footers with someone on them instead of foul shots with no one guarding them.
Rose Hill would have won tonite if the white haired referee wasn't there making a mockery of the referring profession. BOTOM LINE. I can't believe his supervisor continues to let him OWN a whistle much less blow one.
-
I am one of the biggest RH fans you will ever meet and have blamed the officials for their loses before. And they did have an impact on the game tonight but there are other things that helped determine the outcome as well. And despite all the fouls that were being called RH had the lead in the fourth quater and couldn't get the defensive stop they needed. I think that had more of an impact that officials.
SolidBlue, I'm only a fan of the game but for anyone to say a foul shot discrepancy like tonite wasn't the Deciding IMPACT on the game really doesn't grasp the entire game and how it's won. Any team that loses in every single category of a game (i.e rebounds, shots, threes, shooting % etc. etc. etc.) and STILL wins the game because they took 30 more foul shots....... that's the DECIDING FACTOR.
-
Shooter I didn't believe your previous thread UNTIL I watched the game tonight. If I'm the head of officials I'm watching this game tape and asking some serious questions. I've never seen a referee so blatantly bias while calling a game. I'd suggest from now on he just travel with the Ashland team to all their games to help save gas.
The incredible part of this game is that RH had an opportunity to win DESPITE the HUGE discrepancy in foul shots. I'd say Ashland is happy to win this game because their future doesn't look bright the next few years against Fairview or RH.

Congrats Russell !!!! Despite adversity you've played hard all year, and this proves that hard work still pays off in the end !!!!

Elliott will be playing for the 16th Region Title and trip to Rupp Tuesday night.
Does anyone know the officials for this game? If so, I can make a very accurate prediction on the point differential.
Without the informaton, I'll take East by 2 points.
Ok then let's just call off the other district tourneys and the Region Tournament. It seems to me that they play the games for a reason.....
Elliott is by far the superior team in the 16th but to crown them if they win Tuesday is a little bit crazy. I've seen suprising things happen in High school athletics.........

From your dancing banana, I assume you are hoping I will post something negative about your boys and rekindle the Ashland-Rose Hill feud. That won't happen.
As I have posted previously, Ashland won because they wanted the game more than did Rose Hill. Ashland showed a lot of pride and determination. Rose Hill needs to learn to do the same. Rose Hill clearly has more talent than does Ashland (although without Gregg, that may not be the case) and will "outtalent" Ashland for the next 3 to 5 years or so unless Ashland attracts some new athletes or Rose Hill has another mass exodus. However, talent and potential don't get it without pride and determination.
As for coaching, Biggs is a good coach and a nice fellow but I'm quite pleased with the coaching of John Bush.
See, I made nice statements about both programs and did so in a factual manner. Mayo is now in the NBA, Walker is in the NBA, Euton and Jackson are in Georgetown, and we need to move past the ghosts. Best wishes to you and your boys.:thumb:
Nice statement "shooter" I'm glad to see some people can still make positive statements about. :thumb:
Ashland vs Rose Hill makes for a good rivalry game. Thats all, nothing else. I wish all of the "adults" involved could understand that......

I agree with coach Fraley and what he said in ADI. The point error in the 3rd quarter did not affect the overall outcome of the game. There was too much playing time left in the game. Plays down the stretch are what matter. If this error had happened with seconds left in the 4th quarter then IT WOULD matter. Same thing if a ref makes an incorrect call early in the game, like missing a goal tend, then that basket should have counted but didn't. These types of things only affect the game at the closing seconds of a game.
All that being said....... Both teams played an outstanding game with heart and hustle. Both teams should hold their heads high over how well they played. These two teams have the talent to make some noise in the next few weeks. Good job GC and RH.

Very impressive win. This score really suprised me. Not the win by East but the final score is impressive.

A good win for the T-Cats.

I think compared to the Lexington and Louisville Regions the 16th is definitely weaker, but after that I don't think you can put them in the bottom. The 16th region after Elliott from 2-8 has some very good quality teams that can compete. There are no big name players or flashy teams but the quality is there 2-8. From what I've seen and heard the next three years will be very good for Rose Hill. Just my opinion.

OOPS! You got me. I'm half asleep. Sorry.

Haven't seen any comments on this one yet. I understand it has no bearing on the 64th tournament (which makes it less interesting than the 62nd!). So how do we think this game will play out?

Elliott County from 1st to ? in the 16th next season?

I fully expect Knipp to return to Elliott. With that being said I think Elliott will fall in that group of teams behind East, Fairview, and RH that have a chance to be very competitive.
