  1. So how does Simon Kenton get into the 8th region?

It seems like a lot of favors being done if you ask me. Its like Pineville. They moved them out of Bell Co's district when Harlan schools have to go through Pineville's city limits to get to Bell Co. and Middlesboro HS. At that time (unlike this year) Bell's program was much stronger than Knox Central and the other teams in that district. And guess what. A Pineville administator is on the Board of Controls. The alighnment IMO is becoming a political move. The 12th region wanted the Laurel Co. schools out of the region. Mission accomplished. Thats my opinion.

Just like the 8th wanted Scott Co. out.

  2. Look at a map...makes no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, but instead of having another good team in the state tournament from the old 11th, you put Scott Co. in there with them and take one of those teams out who deserves to be in the Sweet 16 and replace them with a mediocre 8th Region team. Now I understand some years there are exceptions like this year's Anderson Co. team and the Shelby Co. team that had a nice run a few years ago. By the way, ColonelMike, I bet you were really happy to see them go. Could've been a lot worse in '07.

  3. You also could hurt your hand here in the month of Febraury & not be available to your team when needed most - Tournament time! They should be thinking about the team & not showing they can play D1 just because they can dunk.

I don't know about you, but I would want my players dunking as much as possible. And in the history of basketball and the slam dunk, I would say if you saw every dunk ever, then less than 0.5% of the players were injured in the action.

  4. :ohbrother:

I wouldn't say that it was becuase of Scott County's defense as much as it was that the Camels could just not make a shot. They had many open looks and even had offensive rebounds and second chance opportunities. They couldn't stop Scott County, especially their big guys. If Campbell County would have shot better from the field this would have been a 20-25 point win.

    :ohbrother: duh :ohbrother:

  5. While those two teams in 06-07 were great i wouldn't say that there's never been a year when there weren't two great teams like that. The '99 team for Ballard and Scott County were absolutely incredible, both teams being nationally ranked. They basically only lost to each other, they weren't even on each others schedule and managed to meet each other 4 times that year in tournies with of course the biggest of all being meeting in the City of Palms title game which featured a 16 team field with 5 nationally ranked teams that didn't include Ballard being ranked at the time.

Before Scott County lost that championship game to Ballard they were ranked #4 in the USA Today Super 25. There were great players on both teams too. Ballard had Bender and Chiles and Scott Co. had Rick Jones and Scott Hundley. I'm not sure what happened to Bender, but those other three players signed to play in the SEC.

  6. I'd say the '99 and '07 Ballard and Scott County teams and add '03 Mason County and '04 Warren Central. As a homer I really liked the '05 Ballard team, they probably had more talent than the '07 team they just didn't have the desire (and Spillman walked).

But the thing about the two '07 teams and especially SC is that it was a two horse race all year. Neither team lost to anyone ranked behind them and Ballard's only loss going into the Championship game was in the season opener. I think that SC team will go down as perhaps the greatest but I think Ballard should be on the list because it won the KOB and LIT in addition to losing to only the top ranked Cardinals in state. None of the other years in the last 10 years had two teams like that, let alone in the same year.

Your right about the two horse race. I remember how great it was when I saw 11th and 7th on different sides of the bracket, knowing for sure the two best teams would be playing for the title in '07.

  7. You know, those kinds of games often come against the better teams on your schedule.

Shelby Valley is a well-coached team that has the personnel to cause Elliott some problems. I dare say that had something to do with the outcome.

The Massey Ratings rank Elliott County's average opponent about a point better than Shelby Valley's average opponent.

Massey ranks Elliott's schedule as the state's 33rd-toughest, with Shelby Valley at #42.

How do you find these ratings, id really love to look at them.

  8. Holmes could be in the top ten in this to, can remember the days when there was standing room only. Terrible overall fan count. Not much of a student section, if any at times. :idunno::irked:

I've never been to Holmes home gym but it does seem like when I've been to the state tournament and watched them play they really don't have many fans there. Surprising considering the teams they have had the last two years and this year as well.

  9. Accomplished more? No. But how was competition that year? I'd like to see that team against the Russellvilles and Etowns of '99 and '00. I just don't see hardly anyone stopping the Tony Key's or Antwan Barbours.

Did you not read the part about them beating Kentucky's best player and the #3 pick in the draft last year, I would say there a little more accomplished then those teams you mentioned. Maceky was also the #35 player in the junior class that year. Also, Ballard's only state loss was to Scott County that year by 22, and the state championship game as well. But the thing that makes people around here the most proud about that team ... all the flack that Scott Co. catches over transfers this year, that team was all Scott Co. And their only other loss that year besides the other Huntington game was to A.J. Stewart and Arlington Country Day from Jacksonville down in Myrtle Beach.

  10. Scott County still had their four Division I prospects on the floor ... I realize that Manning is quite a talent for a freshman, but it isn't like the Cardinals didn't have plenty of talent on the court.

True, but it is hard to win games when you have certain pieces out of your line-up. Manning is the #2 ballhandler on their press break and Aaron Ford is probably the second best ballhandler on the team. Then that leaves Jackson as the only one left and he was in foul trouble all night. All the odds were against them and they still won this game. IMO, the biggest win of the year for the Cards.
