  1. Anyone that doesn't believe Coverdale is one amazing coach has no clue about him. I have nothing to do with T or H but I know Coverdale is one of THE guys when it comes to offense in the country. He has done well every where he was an OC. The short stint as HC in IN was much more complex than many know. There are a number of schools that would kill to have him as an HC.

I am hoping Coach Coverdale takes over for Coach Beatty after he wins #23 and rides into the sunset. I figure this will be the beginning of the 2013 season.

  2. Wrong- far and away they are the best 2 programs KY has to offer and they do it the right way- if they continue to play OH's best they will be even better- Highlands even steps up and plays the "big boys" from OH which is saying something!!

Just trying to add a little perspective.

Until other schools start taking steps to improve, these 2 are almost never going to get beat.

The gap is getting wider in their respective classes, not closer!!!!!!

I totally agree. Unfortunately the two largest KY school districts, JCPS and Fayette County Schools, have decided to take their ball and go home when it comes to scheduling Trinity. It's really quite pathetic. Trinity will continue to schedule quality out of state teams each year, play their required district games and squash the rest of the 6A teams in the playoffs. It's a great system the KHSAA has created.

  3. I actually don't think he meant it as a slight. Trinity has programs that X doesn't offer, for students with learning differences. It's actually (IMO) one of the best things about Trinity. For a school that doesn't have to, Trinity has created ways to help these kids, and its mission is enhanced by those programs. I would say that it does allow a student that may not have previously considered a private school education an alternative. And some of those students may well be athletes. The by-product could possibly be athletic success. BUT, I do not say that as a reason that Trinity elected to become more attractive to a broader range of students. I think they identified a need, and it fit with the mission statement, and they've been very successful. It's one of the stepping stones to total success at Trinity.

For the record, I'm proud to say that I was fortunate to attend quite a number of Shamrock Awards afternoons, and the number of kids on athletic teams that receive those Academic awards is staggering. But I think it speaks to the intertwining of academics, athletics, other interests and community service that propels these kids to that level. I truly believe that it takes all those components to make the complete person. And when they are pushed not only by their teachers, but by their peers, to excel in the classroom, you see the result at the beginning of Pride Week each year.

  4. The thrill and excitement that we enjoyed on a cold night in Bowling Green last year was met with nervous anticipation at halftime last Friday. St X had played accordingly to their game plan and had executed it to a 7-7 stalemate, and most importantly, instilled fear that the improbable could come true. But Trinity marched right down the field to start the second half and converted the errors that we made.

Hats off to two individual Trinity players who impressed the heck out of me- Ryan White and Travis Wright. St X made a decision to run at Ryan White and time and time again, he took on the blockers and made play after play. I don't know his height and weight but he just threw his body in harms way and stopped the runs to his side.

Travis Wright made play fake after play fake and eluded the seemingly slow defensive line of St X when we did get pressure on them. The fourth down throw in the opening drive was huge.

I saw one pass thrown behind Quick and the one interception but I thought every play was flawless. He plays well beyond his sophomore years.

From the coaching standpoint- Trinity did a good job getting Quick and Daylyn isolated in the flat with passes or sweeps. St X repeated the mistakes inside the 10 that they did in 2005 and 2007 by going on a long count and having an X lineman jump offsides, and then going for it on 4th down. Maybe some year we'll take the 3 points.

Defending the X coaches- You scout Trinity's alignment, you practice the kickoff away from Quick, Raque puts the ball perfectly where he was aiming, the Trinity return man bobbles the ball, X is in position just like Seneca and Ballard kickoff returns, and Trinity just makes a move and returns the kickoff to the X 45, instead of the 5-10 yard line where Seneca and Ballard got tackled.

That is true talent, Trinity has it and you just have to respect that.

Best of luck to the Rocks, and we'll see you in the district next year. Beware of Male this year- NO ONE is talking about them and giving them the credit. They are flying under the radar.

jimmyref, Thanks for the comments. As a father of a son that lost twice to the Tigers last year, I found myself thinking about my son and his teammates and the similarities between the 09 Rocks to this group of Tigers alot on Friday night. Both teams had alot of injuries to fight through and found themselves playing kids both ways to try and get it done. The 2009 Rocks faced a Great X team last year, and even though this Rock team is talented, I don't think they would have beaten last seasons Senior laden Tigers. With that said, by the time this group are Seniors they just might be the best Trinity team of all time.

  5. Didn't the Tigers boast they had changed some things up after our first game? I am still trying to figure out what was different, all run and when they tried to pass, I've seen grade school teams pass the ball better. Glaser's comment in the CJ today "I don't think thye're 35-7 better than us" speaks volumes to the the mans ego. I hate to tell you Mike, they are 83 to 7 points better than you sir. Payback is hell and unfortunately for Tiger fans, you will only win one maybe every 5 or so years with ole Mike at the helm. Don't look for it to happen soon as the Rocks just continue to reload!

  6. I truly wonder what %age of SK fans on this site truly believe they can beat T (or X), an what %age are just having BGP fun? If T doesn't lose by a TD to Cincy X they are no doubt top 20. Of course had they lost to Elder they would not be ranked nationally in any poll. It is what it is: meaningless. All that matters to T, X, H, Ryle, SK, etc. is getting to BG in December. For the poll fans, T should be firmly in the national rankings for the next few years anyway. For the T fans, they are only worried about playing every year in December.

And keeping the Thanksgiving Breakfast Tradition alive!

  7. Is this match up being played at Papa John's? If so, the attendance will be larger at this one game than the crowd at BG for the combined 1A, 2A and 3A state championships games and you just might to want to include the 4A game crowd also!

The game will be at Papa Johns and the crowd will be the largest of any playoff game or any State game but smaller than the regular season game. I expect the game to be closer than the first but not by much. St. X's run and then run again offense will not be able to get it done. The tables have turned significantly since last years games.

  8. This should be a better game than the first meeting when the Rocks crushed the Crimsons. Manual's tough schedule has prepared them for the playoffs. Trinity's speed and versatility on offense will be unstoppable. On defense, with Hatcher back from injury, the Rocks will be primed and focused for Manual's misdirection run game. Should be an exciting game. Rocks win (48-13) and take one more step towards #20!

Don't get me wrong, Hatcher is a good player but the Rocks defense can and will win without him.

  9. Nice theory but as Trinity is already experiencing, finding outside state competition is tough to schedule home and home opportunities each year. Thanks to Fayette County and now Jefferson County's boycott, Trinity has 4 open dates for next season. I have full confidence Dennis Lampley will work things out, but what has taken place within this state to cut T & X out of the KHSAA schedule is pathetic.

  10. I would usually say this is the law of unintended consequences, but in all likelihood this is was the intended consequence.

I went to a public Jefferson Country school and we beat St. X while I was there. When you come in the underdog and get the win is far more sweet than winning as the favorite. While X and T go into every game the favorite it is special when the upset occurs and its great for the team that does it. LexCath beat X in 2003 and it is still talked about. And there was almost an upset last year. This run and hide approach is bad for all.

I can't speak for X but T will continue to go out of state and fill their schedule with heavy weights like Cincy X, Moehler, Elder, etc. This kind of schedule just gets younger kids excited and helps T attract better student athletes each year. By the time the KY playoffs come around, they will just continue to steamroll the public school competition. Not to mention with this decision, JCPS loses their schools biggest gates by dropping T & X. They will be crying about this in a couple of seasons.

  11. So are you saying that the Jefferson County gerrymandering is costing you games and creating slots in your schedule? Since now the X-T game is a district game vs. none district game and allowing another public to avoid you on the schedule?

I have heard that Trinity has 4 openings on next years schedule and that Jefferson County teams outside of their district games were not willing to schedule them. Lexington teams outside of Catholic quit playing Trinity after the 2008 season. Everyone wants to point the finger at T & X for all of their success and say they don't have a level playing field. At schools like T, X and LexCath, Highlands, they believe in order to be the best you have to play the best competition available. Jefferson and Fayette County public schools have just decided to take their ball and go home. It's really pathetic!
