  1. Bell starts school on the 5th that is too early:ohbrother:

Yep, it's a joke starting school that early. It's been going on since the early 2000's for most places, but I dont know anybody that has yet to get used to it and/or like it, even if they have gotten used to it. There's a lot of school districts that seem to be starting the week of the 4th-9th of August.

  2. I would rather spend my gas money to go to WKU, their coaches recruit KY kids, and they don't feed the kids a line of bologna when they do recruit here.

Great point! Not just Hope, but I don't think EKU recruited many KY kids in Kidd's last few years at the helm, did they?

I do remember that a certain QB from Breathitt Co., one of our mountain boys wasn't "good enough" for EKU, but was for those Hilltoppers. He turned out pretty descent. :jump:

  3. I can't really see you rationale when your talking population size (which has nothing to do with the state finals) when Richmond is the 6th largest city and Bowling Green is the 4th largest, only 12,000 difference.

What is your basis of a true town?

And when you say Richmond is no where near the town of Louisville, neither is Bowling Green, but once again what does that have to do with playing football. I'd say Richmond has more or at least equal to the amenities that Bowling Green has to offer, I know for a fact they will in 2011, when this would be a possibilty due to the construction of Little Hamburg in Richmond.

WKU's facilities are still debatable, they haven't played a game there yet to judge them and the last game played there, the locker rooms were flooded and security must have been lacking due to the stolen merchandise from the Ky All Stars.

    Honestly? Just my opinion.

I just think about those who may come in for a two/three day stay, Bowling Green just seems to be a better town. More to do. More to take in. I think, per capita, doesn't Bowling Green have more restaurants than ANY town in America? Or some crazy fact like that?

Again, just my personal opinion. I don't, nor have I ever lived in either of the towns, but I've visited both quite a bit. Now, if Richmond builds a Hamburg type place, like in Lexington, then that would definately add a little more flare to the town.

Again, I still think that WKU will be the site of the State Finals for a good while. I just have that feeling. :idunno:

  4. I sure hope they never have the state finals in Richmond. For starters, Richmond is nowhere near the town of a Louisville, Lexington or even Bowling Green. BG is only around 50K people, compared to Louisville and Lexintons 1million or so, but BG is a great town. Maybe the best true "town" in our state.

And their new facilities at WKU. 1st class!! I'm guessing the state finals are going to be there for a while. I sure hope so!

  5. The game is being played on Log Mountain:irked:

Ok, so you all have to travel a whopping 5 miles up the road. Mboro or at Log Mnt, you know what I'm saying. :thumb: I don't think Middlesboro will be able to pull the 'underdog' card in this match-up.

  6. UK misses another great in-state kid

Have heard nothing, but great things about this kid and not being negative, but with the QB class that UK has comming in, I'm willing to bet that UK will be ok. He might have been thinking the same thing, which is why UL looked so good. Best of luck to the young man!!!

  7. I remember a few years back when they came down here and played in the City/County Bowl and kicked our butts all up and down the field (It was embarrassing) , I think we over looked them than seriously I do , That was one of the fastest yet smallest teams I remember playing ever O. Mitchell burned us ALL DAY LONG.

With what we lost and like you said "I think they return a good core of the the '08 team" Middlesboro is definitely the underdog.

You and the Yellow Jacket faithful might view yourselves as the underdog, but I don't think that others will feel the same (and not that it matters, really) for a few reasons:

    1)Homefield advantage

2)Green County taking a 3 hr trip, stepping off the bus and playing.

3)The tradition you all have. As a program and the tradition in that stadium

4)M'boro might have lost quite a bit from last years team, however a "down" M'boro team is still a "good" team for 3/4 of the team across the state, and even moreso true for your 2A counterparts, like Green Co.

Should be a dandy of a game, with two good teams who will have their voice in the 2A playoffs come November. As long as everyond looks at this game and it's outcome in those aspects, you wont have anything to worry about. :thumb:

  8. Anything on Green County and what they return this season??

They will play In the City/County Bowl at Bell County against Middlesboro In week #1 so I am kinda curious. Thanks

When you see them in warm-ups, they aren't exactly a team that will blow you away with the "look test". But, I promise you this much; they will play as hard, be very well disciplined and just flat out get to the football as good, if not better than anybody Middlesboro will play this year. If the game was at Green County, I'd definately be there. Should be a great game. Best of luck on the year!

They beat Danville in the 2nd round last year, at Danville and lost to Monroe County in the regional finals by one point....the same Monroe County team that gave Ft. Campbell fits up until late in the state-semi final game. I think they return a good core of the the '08 team.

  9. The west was fine in 2007 ... Lone Oak ran into a buzzsaw in the finals, a Lexington Catholic team that was head and shoulders above everyone else in 4A. I saw several of LexCath's playoff games om tape, and I would have given Lone Oak a decent chance to beat anybody else from the east that year.

That LexCath was. I should have clarified. I didnt mean any disrespect to Lone Oak. Personally, I think the West is better from top to bottom. They lack the "dominant" teams that the East has (Boyle, Bell, LexCath), but I definately feel the West is better all around.

I'm also going to have to agree with another post about Cov. Holmes. They might raise a few eyebrows in the East this year. It's not like they'll be short on speed or talent.

  10. Yeah, but to some here the west doesn't really matter ...

This is true. I think the west earned it's respect this year, at least a good part of it back from the '07 game. I don't think anyone expected Bullitt East to be in it v.s Bell to the end like they were. That was a pure heavy weight bout.

Westsider, might as well throw some teams out there and get some takers? I said 10 from the West have a shot. I think Allen Co.-Scottsville is the favorite and after that:

-Franklin Simpson (always will be a fixture)

-Marion County (Jeff Robbins has been able to get the talent out & producing)

-Lou. Fairdale (no shortage in talent)

-Lou. Western (see above. Maybe have as much talent as anyone in Lville)

-Calloway Co. (even though they lost everybody, other than Willis)

-Bullitt East (lost quite a bit, but Doug Preston will have them ready)

-LaRue County (young and talented, could be the darkhorse of this bunch)

    -Hopkins Co. Central

  11. HAHAHA, the administration at Mercer must be a joke.....this don't happen at places where the administration has it right. I bet Marty is getting a kick out of this mess.

I guarantee it. He's probably hating it for the kids (from what I know, he was all but sure they would give the job to Mason, so had a feeling a comfort that they were going to be in great hands), but getting a kick out of all those that wanted him out and glad that he was giving it up.

Just goes to show just because something looks good on the outside (new multi-million dollar facility and school) doesn't mean it's that good or even close on the inside.

  12. 1 - Mercer didn't have Spring practice the past 2 years under Jaggers

2 - Athletic Director Todd Davis ran the weightroom 95% of the time along with some of the assistant coaches

    3 - No

4 - Won't talk about that issue here.

#2 Todd Davis teaches weights in the classroom but if you call talking on the phone and playing on the computer all day teaching.

#1 As far as spring practice he never actually did it the whole time he was there. I can name several good programs that do the same thing he did in the spring.

I wonder how the man won so many games?Oh, I know he just had better talent. Let's see what the next guy does. Weaver didn't want to take his chances with all that talent.#3 He lives in Harrodsburg and he goes to church there what does he need to do that he didn't do. I know alot of coaches that don't even live in the community they coach. Larry French is an example he still lives in Lincoln County. #4 As far as his personal life ,you make sure you cast the 1st stone.

  13. holmes, you are too biased and think you know too much. Whats best for the program is not within your grasp!

    I'm so offended. :jump:

I didn't know sharing my opinion and other logical scenarios that might have contributed in all of this going bad at Mercer means I'm "biased" and "knowing too much."

Unlike some people on this site, I don't share opinions on matters I know nothing about.

  14. Unfortunately, this type of thing happens when people are rushed into making big decisions like this. The blame lies with Jaggers for putting Mercer in this situation.

What about the Board of Education at Mercer for waiting 6 months to make a hire at Superintendent, puting Jaggers and the kids in limbo, waiting to know whether or not he could retire from teaching, yet still coach?

What about Terry Yates, the principal, for not letting Jaggers do what so many other coaches across the state have been able to do here lately (retire from teaching, but coach)?

What about Yates and the hiring committe for not hiring the obvious and best choice in the first place, Bill Mason? Jaggers Defensive Coordinator/'Right Hand Man' the past three years with, whom the kids, from everything I've heard, have a great respect for.

The fault here lies with certain members at the top of the mountain.

  15. So the rumor is Weaver is going back to Madisonville, what IS going on?

Weaver met with The Mercer team last night and they lifted and went outside and ran some pass routes. He met with the coaches and he met with the Mercer team again this morning and talked about the practice schedule. How in the world could he do this after meeting with both teams and tell one group he was leaving and meet his new team and than back out in 24 hrs.The Board of Education at Mercer paid for his motel bill so his family could stay over night last night in Harrodsburg.

  16. Mason and Jaggers are good friends. Jaggers hired Mason after he was let go by Nelson County. They are very loyall to one another.Mason lives in Danville and his wife works at Danville High school and his kids go to school there. .
I wonder if Mason doesn't get it how many asst's will stay on?Hey coldweather is that your dog?
  17. From what I was told, Mason was looking to go to Boyle if Jaggers stayed. He is very interested in the HC job at Mercer, has applied, and is one of the final candidates. Don't take it as gospel, but that's what I heard from someone close to what's going on.

Mason and Jaggers are good friends. Jaggers hired Mason after he was let go by Nelson County. They are very loyall to one another.Mason lives in Danville and his wife works at Danville High school and his kids go to school there. You were told wrong.

  18. Those are statistical analysis but at least with Clevenger there is a reason his record was only 9-11 over two years. I think he was 2-9 his first season and considering the mess that Henderson was in emotionally, no one would have done any better. You can almost call that season a wash.

I completely agree. I didnt know what info people were wanting. Didn't both play at Danville, maybe even on the same teams and also coach at Cumberland College w/one another on the defensive side?

I agree also with what you said about Clevenger and what he walked into at Henderson. Both men have seemed to have done a more than fine job at both places under the circumstances.

I've lived east of I-75 the most of my life and Brown did as well as anybody has at Rowan County. It's traditionally been a very tough place to win.
