  1. You couldn't blame any game they lost last year on the bigs because the fact is that they didn't really have any bigs. Reynolds was far from being a presence down low and after him there was another huge drop off. The guards lost some games last year, but thats because every game was on their shoulders. You also have to realize that last year was really the first year that it was their team. The previous year they were contributors on a very senior-led team. With another year of experience and the new coach they will be the bright spot on this team yet again, only question will be if the bigs can handle their part of the job.

Very good observations from a person who apparently knows alittle about basketball.

  2. I realize there are a lot of people on here that are high on the guards at Walton. However, I think they can be outstanding if 2 things can happen.

    1. They play unselfishly and do not worry about their own personal aggendas or point totals. If they play team ball as the game is designed they will have a tremendous season!!

    2. They have to cut their turnovers in half. Walton's guards have the highest turnover rate of anyone in the district or region. It is something they have struggled with the past few years. If they can not turn the ball over the team will have huge success. However, you cannot win ballgames with the amount of turnovers they have and then you cannot blame it on the bigs.

In one game last year 2 of the starting guards had double digit turnovers by halftime. That was not out of the ordinary either.

I think they can have a fantastic season under thier new coach but I think these are 2 things that if conquered could make them an outstanding team!!

The guards were the only thing that kept them in the games they won. If they had to depend on their bigs, it would have been a very long season. Hopefully, with a year under their belt, Burns will have improved. Monday was really coming along, and Cottrell should be ready to go, so it should be a good season coming up. :dancingpa

  3. Their coaching staff has done an exceptional job. They have taken a team with no seniors, very little varsity experience and not alot of talent and made them into district contenders. Coach Bennett and his staff should be commended on a job well done.

I have to disagree. They have talent. Now, I admit I haven't seen all their games this year. But, IMO, alot of times they win in spite of the coaching staff. You have your opinion and I have mine. My sentiment is one I have heard on many occasions, and from many people. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this point.

  4. Who's job is it to call game stats and such into the paper? I never see anything about Walton in the paper. I don't get to attend all the games, and would like a little recap when I look in the paper. I know for sure that if my child was playing, I would be more than a little upset not to see anything in the paper the next day. Someone is not getting their job done. The kids deserve better, as do the fans who cannot get to every game. Some of us work a different schedule.
