  1. If they plan to compete with anyone, they really need to work on the basics. They need to improve their tackling and line play. You can't let your line stand straight up and expect success. Last year both the O line and D lines would stand straight up as soon as the ball was hiked. If they fix that then they'll start looking good. If they work on the arm tackles that have been a problem the last couple of years, then they would be the likely front runners in the district. If they fail to improve on these 2 areas, then it will be a long season ending with a fight for 4th.

I don't think they'll be fighting for 4th after winning the district last year, but definitely agree about the line play. That was their weakness all last season on both sides of the ball. You're exactly right that they all stand straight up as soon as the ball is snapped. It really showed when they played Ashland and all of Ashland's linemen fired off low and just whipped them. They also need to get their linemen in shape, they were in terrible shape last year. They could have a pretty darn good team if they can fix these areas.

  2. I think East Carter might want to be heard from on this, noone gives them a chance BUT on any given day anything can happen! I don't think it would surprise a lot of people if East gave Greenup all THEY want.

I agree, I think East can give them a game. I predict Greenup will pull it off but think it will be a tough test for them.

  3. How far is it to the monster nowadays?

I had already left by the time he hit it, bit it depends where it went out. In right field It's pretty short, I'd guess 280 or less, but it slopes out toward center and if he put it out over right center then it was a pretty nice tater knob.

  4. Why couldn't you pitch several kids 2 innings or so if you really don't have a GOOD #2 or #3? Pitch by committe! Save your #1 for the 2nd round? I know that a local coach just worries about winning 1 but don't really worry about the 2nd game until he gets there BUT we need to go to win more than just 1 GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That showed in our DISTRICT GAME, you have to baby some kids that could really help but our coaches say they want to save him for NEXT YEAR???? What good does that do for the SENIORS this year and you may not even make it NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is especially valuable if you end up like they have in the 16th now with the rain changing the schedule and giving the top bracket winners a day's rest, which mean't they could actually have thrown a kid 3-5 innings and with the day off bring them back again for a couple of innings. A lot of it depends on how deep your staff is, when you play, and your draw.

  5. Your not sure on them beating Raceland, but you think if they get past Raceland then they will beat Greenup?

I think Raceland knocks Boyd out now that they have Wilson ready to throw.

Boyd counters with Moore who has been pitching lights out.

  6. Wilson went 2 inns 0 Runs, Reynolds went 1/3 inn gave up 5 runs, Reed went 5 inn and gave up 1 Run. Reed also had 3 hits to help the Rams win in the first round of the 16th Region at Morehead State University. Next Game will be with the Boyd Co. Lions. This game should pit 2 of the best pitcher in the Region. Wilson for Raceland and Moore for Boyd Co. should be a good one. Congratulations to the Raceland Rams. :thumb:

I think Boyd County is pitching their #2, Arthur against the Rams. He's had a pulled muscle behind his shoulder, but if he's on his game like he was against Rockcastle and Greenup he'll be tough on Raceland.

  7. I think the percentages would indicate a three-peat!:thumb:

I wouldn't punch those tickets for Lexington just yet Doc. I think you're underestimating a Boyd team that just waltzed through their district including a shelling of Ashland. Plus Boyd did have Greenup down 5-1 going into the 7th, at Greenup without their #1 on the mound. Just sayin'...:idunno:

  8. Looks like a favorable draw for Fleming County.

I would disagree, Raceland is probably the best team of the 4 district losers and if they do win that one then they play a Boyd team that is playing maybe the best ball in the region right now.

It's a great draw for Boyd County in that they won't face Greenup until the championship and can save Moore to throw against them and probably use Arthur against the winner of Raceland/Fleming. I would guess Tengowski or Pauley in the opener will go for Boyd County. I like this draw for the Lions.
