  1. I predicted this yesterday after watching both teams play. I ask the Elliott faithful to show me a quality win and they rattled off out-of-state teams that I (we) didn't know much about. Shelby Valley is solid, they let off of the gas and missed a ton of FT's or this could have been a 20 point loss. Good group of boys on Elliott, however they seem to have been playing average or less than average teams. I still believe that Holmes and Scott County are on another level, and either one will end up with the championship.

  2. I must say after seeing Shelby Valley the last two games (only time I have seen them this year) I expected to see much more in person than what I've seen. Their offensive numbers were bigger earlier in the year. They will have to score a lot more than 56 points (like they did today) to beat Elliott unless EC shoots like 25% from the field which I don't see happening. Do they have a talented team?? Yes, but I expected bigger offensive output than what I saw in the first two games of the All A. No prediction--just leave it at that.

It is not uncommon for an NCC game to be low scoring. They will work the ball and slow the scoring down. The more time off the clock, the less scoring, you get the picture.

I am not an Elliott County fan, only because I don't think they have a quality win that I can relate to. If they win on Sunday, that would be a start.

  3. Shelby Valley has a really good team. They are the tallest team I have seen play this year. NCC got into foul trouble and had a little trouble with the half court trap. The 2 little guys up front for SV really hustle. This was also the worst officiated game I have seen this year as well. I thought we had some under-parr officials in the 9th, I will gladly keep all of them. Good luck to SV on Sunday.

  4. The thing with NCC is they're inconsistent. They just won the All A but then they also have losses to teams like Newport and Dixie who really aren't that great this year. They also have an 18 point loss to Boone.

The early season win over Highlands was also when the football kids were getting their legs under them and Willie was still trying to find the right combination of players and rotation. They may very well give Holmes a good game, but I don't see them beating either Holmes or Highlands in the district finals.

    Only time will tell chief.

I know this blog is on Holmes (great team this year, good chance to run the table.) I don't ever offer excuses for a teams loss, but since you mentioned the Football legs. NCC lost a key player to a broken arm the 1st game of the season, had no big men(football, injuries) against Boone, Senior retreat Fri/Sat/Sun, when they lost to Dixie on Monday. Newport had a 20 point lead, only to win on a hail mary. The 3 losses Lex Cath, Trinity, Madisonville, I see them winning if they had their missing starter. The kid is finally back, same kid that had 8 boards and 8 points in the Dawgs loss to NCC last year. I think the NCC/ Holmes game will be closer than you think, and I don't see Highlands beating NCC this year. Like you said, time will tell.

  5. Holmes toughest remaining games are Highlands, Boone, and Hazard.

Holmes will beat NCC, Campbell Co, Scott, and Dixie by 10+. None of those teams have the size or athleticism to contend with Holmes. As far as Conner, I think Holmes may have overlooked them first go around. I see Holmes beating them by around 15 in the second game.

Eta, you don't give NCC enough credit. They beat your Birds on their home floor and even missed 19 freethrows and minus a key player. You picked against them in the All-A with St. Henry and Newport. They will give Holmes a good game, and if Highlands get by Newport in the district, they lose again to the Breds.
