  1. Thanks I appreciate it. This was very hard to do, but I couldn't have done it the way it needed to be done if not for the help of the coaches. Everyone of the coaches I dealt with (both boys and girls) were great to work with.

I have one complaint about this years version, which is better than last years. I guess since Somerset is not figured to factor into the 12th Region picture you did not research them much. Townsend has transferred to the 16th region. So maybe you deserve a pass on that one.

  2. I think Rowan will suprise some people this year. By the looks of their schedule on the KHSAA site, they tried to upgrade as much as possible. I am surprised that writers of the CATS Pause did not do a better job in their summary. They totally missed the transfer of Townsend to the team. The kid averaged 19.2 points a game as a sophmore last year in the 12th region, you would think that is at least worth mentioning. Their game against Ashland is supposed to be televised on Wazoo sports. I think they expect big things over in Morehead.

  3. I don't think that he uses all information available, to include talking to coaches in every region. I think the 12th Region Juniors to be got it stuck to them. If you look at the complete article, he has a best of the rest. One of his picks is not even the best on that team. I don't think you can put much stock in it other than to say that he knows the 7th (Louisville Area) pretty good, and reviewed the reports from the two KBA state tournaments.

  4. Pulaski Co. went 13-18 last year, but the record does not represent the improvement the Maroons made over the course of the season. They finished off the season as district champs and won the first game in the 12th region tournament. All this while starting 3 freshmen. Now those freshmen will be sophomores and you can expect the Maroons to be back in the region again in 2011. The team will be lead by Senior Zach Eastam. He is a really good athlete and will be coming straight from the gridiron to lace up the sneakers again this year. He will be joined by the 3 Sophomores Taylor Gover, Tyler Goins, and Kody Johnson. The maroons will miss the inside presence of Tyler Jenkins whom they lost to graduation. If they can find a consistent player down low, look for the Maroons to make some noise in the 12th region come March.

I got a chance to watch PC during the HS AAU State, their big did not look bad, he should continue to mature and get better. I think they can be dangerous when the outside shot is falling. All three of the guards are capable of knocking down the three. I was very impressed with Goins from behind the arch.

  5. How much will the Townsend kid be missed?
My info comes from a pretty good source. Townsend will probabley not be missed that much their (on the floor) as she will help her new team. Rock returns all starters but one, and already had a deep sophmore and freshman class. May have been able to provide some help on the varsity in some situations. Would have gotten to play a lot of JV. What I hear is people close to her believe the year with the Rockcastle staff and team revitalized her HS ball career. She seems excited about playing again. And I hear she has had a real good summer. It is really amazing what winning will do for some kids.
  6. I saw Tates Creek. Neither Barksdale or Fucci played. I also thought Henry Clay looked good early on. I don't know what happened to them in the tournament. I thought Scott Co. looked really good when I seen them as well. Why would South Laurel play a sr JV? Thats a little odd.

I wonder why more teams don't play in this? Like Clark Co, LexCath, and Mason Co. Its not a far trip for them and from what I seen its ran really well. The referees are getting evaluated and seem like they are trying to better themselves. I understand Louisville schools. Isn't the Derek Smith tournament going on.

I agree with you wish more teams would of played in it so it could of possibly been a better measuring stick. I don't know about the Derek Smith Tour, But J-Town spent the weekend at a tournament in OH, i think Dayton, but don't quote me on that Heard they won most of thre games by plus 35. I think they may be the pre season #1. They are likey to win the Blue Grass Championship in Frankfort Tomorrow.

  7. Watched several games over the past four days. A lot of team around the State did not play in it. Really hard to gauge alot other than to say that Scott County is a good team and at this tournament is seemed they were in a league by themselves. Rowan County was the only team to play with Scott County for any length of time. In pool play they went in at the half tied at 33. SC shoots the ball very well from behind the 3 pt line. Tates Creek played without Fucci, and lost Barksdale on Saturday to injury. Tates Creek will be in the hunt in the 11th region. Due to a Coach's decision Hazard played most of the tournament without Combs and Back. They still looked pretty good. I think they will figure into the mix this year in that Region. Pulaski County may surprise some people in the 12 region. Would like to have seen them play West Jessamine. They won a close game against Rowan in pool play, but lost a close one to Bryan Station in the second round of the tournament. Bryan Station seems to lack some discipline under first year head coach Mike Allen. McCreary Central is playing without their very talented junion, Dixon, who rumor has it got in some trouble at school. With out him in the line up i would say that in becomes a SWHS v. WC district final. Again it was very hard to judge with so many regions under represented in the tournament.

  8. Just received an email from a source close to the Mercer County program and Brian Britt is the new head coach at Mercer County. Great hire by Mercer County as he looks to involve and develop kids of all ages in the basketball program at Mercer County. Congratulations and good luck to Coach Britt.

What is Coach Britts Bio, I am unfamiliar with him. Introduce him to us.

  9. Charlotte Court has a very nice program. The team is always talented and I also like the way they do things. The boys on the team always seem to be very respectful off the court at tournaments, and seem to have good gamesmanship on the court. There are a few other teams like this as well... Team Kentucky, NKY Bulldogs, WKY Elite. These are the teams I enjoy watching, just because they always seems to have the work ethic players. The kids that go out and give it 100% all the time.

Dont get me wrong, SSS has these players too and they are a great organization. But, because of the array of names, you dont always get to see each player on the floor.

Will Marcellus Barkesdale be playing for the Court this year?

Unless things change he will be playing with the Court.
  10. Does anyone know if the Charlotte Court and Lexington Ice will be fielding teams this year? They are always tough. I have also heard that Hoops in Louisville is putting together an elite program.
Charlotte Court is fielding teams this year, and they will be very competitive at each level. Their program may not be considered elite as they do not try to lace themselves with the the States top ranked players, but thier player development is one of the best. And they do it for the right reasons.
  11. I just watched the game.

As to the issue of how much time on the clock at the very end, it appears they got it right.

Watch the replay (its at about 1:54:57).

    http://khsaa.ihigh.com/school23462/broadcast_115679.html

Watch the light on the backboard. It goes off right as the whistle blows and the horn goes off at the same time. There is no way an official could put time back on the clock.

Clyde, I have to disagree with you I have watched this over and over again, she did not save the ball, her foot was out. And the official blew the whistle and pointed to the floor. They got that one incorrect and it is unfortunate. Everyone who watched that game including the Scott County staff thought there was time remaining.

And the push on Alexander was a made up call. It is hard to tell if she touched her at all, but it sure was not a push or foul. That call was a game changer.

I still dont agree with the TO who is to say that he had it called before the jump ball, you can't see both in the frame. I don't think he should of over turned it unless he positively new he had the call before the jump. No way he could tell positively.

    Very poorly officiated game.

  12. I agree! He also had a great Sweet 16 tourney last year! It will be interesting if West Jessamine and Shelby Valley wins their first games, Polson Vs Justice, my money would be on Polson.

I had to opportunity to have him play for us in a few tourneys last year, as I mentioned above he could not play in the summer due to the Governors Scholar program.

Not sure if anyone remembers this from last year, but he was the MVP of one of the Sweet 16 games, after he was handed the award he walked over to the bench and gave it to a teammate. He said that the teammate deserved it, if it wasn't for him we would have lost. He is a great young man all around!

Jarrod is a great kid and competitor. Actually i don't think he ended up attending the GSP due to an illness. I could be mistaken but I am pretty sure this is what he told me. Not playing in the summer has probably hurt him, hopefully he have another great performance in the Sweet 16 games that he appears in. He has a very high BB IQ, Knows how to get to the basket, and does the small things to give his team a chance to win.

  13. Congrats to Pulaski. At least we'll get to start spring football practice sooner this way. With Casey County's upset of Rock the 47th will send 2 teams to the 12th Region with losing records--this has to be one of, if not the weakest district in the state this season.
I love football, i truly do, but this is the very reason SHS will never have a successful basketball program. It is clear what most of the people surrounding the programs think about. I don't anyone in the BB program would have said that had the FB team lost early. It is attitudes like this one that pervents number 11 in the winter from dressing in the fall.
