  1. That is simply ridiculous. You wanna burn kids out keep that up.

I wouldn't say it was "ridiculous", maybe the way Thomas More Camp was run was "ridiculous" with the scheduling and rescheduling of games. Pendleton Played 3 games at Mason Co on Friday, then were scheduled to play 4 at Thomas More 9,10,11,12 yesterday. The times ended up being split up and they picked up a game against Campbell Co who they beat. Pendleton is now 14-6 on the summer with 3 games left against Dixie Heights, Beechwood & Holmes next week.

  2. Pendleton Co went 2-1. Lost to Mason Co by 2 in the first game(Heard Mason Co treated it more like a regular season game, think they had a bone to pick?), then beat West Carter by 30 the very next game. After a game break they then beat a scrappy Georgetown OH team by 15ish points after a slow start. After playing at Thomas More Camp today PC will have played 16 games in 6 days, 7 in less then 24 hours. Region seems to be anyones to grab with a solid 5 teams being able to win come March

  3. FIELDHOUSE FRIDAY

    JUNE 17TH

    (VARSITY)

PENDLETON CO. 1:00 MASON CO (A)

    PENDLETON CO. 2:00 WEST CARTER

HARRISON CO 3:00 MASON CO (A)

    PENDLETON CO. 4:00 GEORGETOWN

    Pendleton is playing @1,2,and 4...wow.

I believe Pendleton Co just got back from Centre team camp where they played 9 games in two & a half days. I'd say they wanted the off day Thursday so they were ok with the 3 games on Fridays schedule.

  4. Not 40+, but 25-30 years. I think we (Mason) should sit on the side where we are designated by the tournament brackets. 99% of us would be glad to change from our normal home side if that is what we are told. We want all teams to feel that the tournament is as fair as possible. However, Pendleton Head Coach and former Mason County player and Assistant Coach Chad Simms will likely agree to change team benches with Mason because he is a mature, smart coach who realizes that the game is played on the floor and not in the stands (or on BGP).

Very correct on the Simm's statement, he said before the draw saturday no way he makes same mistake as last year and will take the visting bench even as the home team.

  5. Get your popcorn ready for the fan show down before the game even starts! Pendleton will in fact be taking the "away" bench even though they are slated as the home team. But you better believe the rowdy crowd from Flamouth will be there well in advance and try to stake their claim on the home side stands. Fred Hester said at the region draw that as tournament director he wasn't going to ask Mason fans to switch sides (that question was raised from the Clark Co staff), but if PC fans get there early enough and claim all the seats he can't ask them to move either. Wasn't really impressed with Mason's fan support last night, Pendleton brought the house with the whole lower and upper side downing red & black.

  6. Let me get one last post in before tonight's game -- "better late than never..."

First of all, I was very impressed with the KFC Yum! Center as I should have been...it is a top-of-the-line arena, other than the name! The lobby's layout is a work of art that I could probably stare at all day from the view on the street. The actual arena has a different look to it, but not necessarily a bad look. I was sitting on the 1st row of a 300 level section and have no complaints about watching the game; however, get more towards the top and I might have a problem. The combined tvs on the back of the jumbo screens were a good idea showing a closer-up of gameplay as well as stats for both teams and individual players. A couple other things about the arena: unsurpassed technology on display; great to see the student section close to the floor & and the opposing team going towards them in the 2nd half; and can anyone get me tickets to the 4-seater dining tables??? but don't get me started on the chicken sandwich for $11.25 nor the 3 tacos for $10+!!!

Now onto my quick analysis of the basketball game...

Pitino had his guys ready as UofL started hot: good to see Marra and Buckles get going early; I wish Terrence Jennings would better use his unbelievable athletic ability...his offensive game makes me think he's a freshman! Louisville's depth started to show as the game went on...depth that I did not know they would have. If i were Pitino, I would keep the same starting line-up...have Preston come off the bench, but play starter mintues (once he is fully healthy). He is a spark to any line-up on both sides of the ball, whatever his shot selection may be. Van Treese and Justice gave max effort Tuesday night...looks like Justice will be back-up PG behind Siva, who didn't play well but that could be attributed to foul trouble. It seems to me that Pitino loves his KY boys!

I think this game would have been a different story if it weren't for an apparent injury to Shelvin Mack in the 2nd half...he couldn't be stopped, totalling most of Butler's points in the 1st half. Yes you can say it also would have been different had Howard not gotten into foul trouble in the 1st half, but that is normal for him. UofL gave Butler plenty of opportunities to come back late in the game, but they couldn't take advantage with Mack out.

With only 1 road game before the calendar year is over, I look for UofL to be undefeated (only loss I could predict is the road game @ WKU) going into their New Year's Eve match-up with the University of Kentucky Wildcats. If the Cardinals can pull out a victory that night, look for a Times Square on New Year's Eve type atmosphere at 4th Street Live!!! C-A-R-D-S Cards

  7. I didn't get to make the game tonight, but the Ragin' Royals sounded like they came out strong despite the weather (per WFTM). Mason County's time of possession in the 1st quarter was something like 3 minutes and they still scored 27 points!!! Royals O that good, or Breds D that bad? ToP probably strongly favored Harrison County as they had the ball the whole 3Q and the beginning of the 4Q; however, it does not reflect the score of the game. Usually the the team who wins ToP wins the game...unless the opponent catches lightning and that's what Mason Co did tonight!

Congratulations to Jordan Gilbert who moved into 3rd place in Royals history in either career receptions or career receiving yards (can't remember which I heard on the radio). Another congrats to Neal Pawsat who has now passed for over 4,000 yards in his varsity career, which is 2nd all-time for the Royals. I don't think he'll be surpassing the #1, Dustin Grutza, anytime soon though...the former Royal and UC Bearcat threw for around 8000 yards in his high school career!!

  8. A few comments, don't know who Pawsat's backup is but he better start getting more reps in practice with this OL. Division 1 type players are supposed to show up against the likes of a Danville or even an Ashland in a scrimmage, not pad stats against lesser opponents, so may be too much clip reading in the early going of this season. And lastly, how is an offense with this much firepower only able to put up 14 in back to back games(again, counting the scrimmage). Really wanted to see another undefeated season, but maybe this will help out come tournament time, still more questions than answers after this one game though

I hope his backup is the retired, I mean un-retired Brett Favre because only he could withstand the pressure that the Ads front line applied. Pawsat was 13 of 24 for 171 yards and 2 TD's...not amazing stats but it is early in the season. Yes he had a couple intentional grounding penalties and took some sacks...what high school quarterback wouldn't when a defender is rushing untouched on his blindside???

  9. What a great season and a good run for Mason County...unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. There's only one better way to end a season on Saturday and thats in the night game at Rupp Arena...the Royals were just one short of that.

Coming into the year, many (including myself) didn't think that Coach O'Hearn had enough talent to get back to the Greatest Show in Hoops, but boy did they prove us all wrong! Injuries early in the season allowed Mason to become a more balanced team, especially Rhueben Bluford. I'd like to call it the "Blooming of Bluford" as he was giving PT to show us all what he is capable of. I don't know why the state tournament should be any different??? I hope he is able to continue his basketball career (from what I've been hearing, Berea and Pikeville are possibilites). IMO the guard combo of Jordan Gilbert and Justin Lang was the Royals greatest asset come tourney time (10th Region & Sweet 16). JG will be a fun player to watch next year in both football and basketball, while J.Lang will be missed surprisingly on offense, but particularly on the defensive end. I believe Justin earned the right to be named All-Tournament Team by his play at Rupp. Bradley Lang was an aggressive player on both ends of the floor, but just couldn't seem to get anything going at Rupp. However, he has better things coming his way...good luck to him as he continues his football career. One player that needs to keep his head up is Treg Setty. He had a lot of pressure to be the leader of this year's team, but I am not sure if he fits that role. He is a good player with even greater potential, but needs to find out how to maximize what he has been given to the fullest. He always wears his emotion on his proverbial sleeve, but he needs to learn how to keep them in check. Neal Pawsat, Tyler Black, and Josh Harris are all athletic studs and will be assets for the both the football and basketball programs at Mason County next year. Look for these three players to be on D1 fields sometime in the next several years.

I think there will always be questions about coaching, whether it be strategy or substition patterns, but Coach O'Hearn and staff, especially Carwile, did a phenomenal job this year...they must be doing something right to give the Royals the opportunity to play at Rupp Arena 3 straight years.

Mason County was just beat by a better team this morning...that team being Shelby Valley. Solid, fundamental play from the Wildcats allowed them to advance to tonight to play for the state championship. They already have the All "A" under their belts and I think they will get this one too. Oh yeah, and they have Elisha Justice.

  10. On a more positive note: Bluford shows up again BIG for the Royals. IMO he is the most important player for Mason County. Bradley Lang was aggressive all night on both ends. And once again, as the same in the region finals, the combination of Gilbert on the offensive end and J.Lang on the defensive end proved vital at the guard position for Coach O'Hearn's squad.

  11. After the offseason UL had. Players being arrested and Coach caught in a mess. You can't expect anything but what they have provided all season.

A wise man once told me: "You can't do wrong and expect good things to happen"

I have told this same thing to many people this year in defense of UofL. Too many distractions off the court to have a successful season as in years past. When the coach gets more publicity for the negatives off the court than for the positives on the court, your team is in for some trouble.

  12. The University of Louisville has been night and day all season long...just in the last 3 games they have lost to Marquette by 20+, beat Syracuse for the second time this season, and then lose to UC after having a sizeable lead. The one thing that Ricky P can't seem to figure out is how to keep his team from losing the lead; it has happened way too many times this season, especially within the conference. I honestly don't know what to expect from UofL come tourney time: they could be a dangerous 8/9/10 seed, or they could go out in the first round because they can't keep a lead.

  13. GS, I really don't think you can criticize the MC cheering section for anything. You say they should have been cheering for their team. Obviously, you didn't hear what was said to players from the GRC cheering section. There really can be no argument for this, it goes both ways when it comes to cheering sections. It is the nature of high school students. As for the spitting and pouring soft drinks on GRC's Bench.. Don't be ridiculous. I'm certain that if someone poured a soft drink on a coach, it would be seen and I'm certain cops would be notified. Also, why am I hearing about this just now, two nights after the ridiculous statement supposably happened? As for the left trophy and the jersey, I'm sure that it was a mistake and GRC accidently left it. I'm sure the MC administration will send both of them back to GRC as they should. The jersey back to GRC, fine. But perhaps send the trophy back to Fleming County:sssh::lol:

  14. I will go back to what I have said all season. Regional tournaments need to be held on neutral courts. This is not a 10th region statement, this is for all regionals. And I stand by this statement knowing that I have just built an 8 mil. facility here in Montgomery County.

    I totally agree.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the discussion of concessions in the Fieldhouse - it is probably wrong to bring in the outcome of the games in this thread. I am not reading this thread because I am interested in who won the game.

Your opinion that the game is for the players has some merit, but there is no reason the tournament hosts shouldn't be concerned with those that paid admission to enter the games.

After this year's tournament, it seems obvious the logistics of the tournament need to be addressed by a committee, and not by those at the drawing. Coaches are coaches, not event planners, they shouldn't have to worry about the details. There should be a tournament committee comprised of people in the 10th region who have an interest in putting on a nice event. It can be held at the Fieldhouse every year if that is the decision. Just because you have a facilities doesn't mean you can put together the event.

And that is what I thought this tread was about.

Good point about Cousins glasses. I actually have attended other games during the regionals at the Fieldhouse that GRC did not play in. I no longer do so for the many reasons I listed several posts ago. My family and myself did attend other games during the regional at the BOK last year because it was a nice experience for the most part. Notice I said for the most part, it wasn't perfect, nowhere can suit everyone.

I understand that the stage end zone is not used every game because the space is not needed. But if that is the only reason, it does not preclude the use in every game even when the space is not needed. It could be one of the dedicated student sections. Now if there are other reasons, safety issues (hopefully not since it is used for the final), costs in preparing, than that is understandable and maybe a legit arguement against the use.

As I stated home court is not my biggest issue, but it is to a lot of people. Mason can not build a facility with the school that is compareable to the BOK and they shouldn't be able to. But if Maysville and Mason had a local facility of the same type and size as the BOK arena, I would not mind playing there on a rotation with other similar facilities.

The issues in this discussion are so far apart that we will not find mutual ground. We can hash it out until you are blue in the face and I am red in the face without any progress. So this is my last post on this thread. I have my opinions and you have yours, as we should. :isurrender:

I agree with all of the above bolded statements and am glad that some of us BGPers from the 10th Region (especially from Mason County, Montgomery County, and Clark County) could find some common ground. :thumb:

boonesp, no need to surrender! I can and will respect others' opinions as I would expect the same...but that doesn't mean I won't try make mine the best haha :D

What do you say we start a petition to improve the 10th Region Tournament from the fans' perspective, however small of a part we play?

  15. To me while there is some home court advantage, it is not the major issue with the Fieldhouse. Granted it has a great tradition, but so did Memorial and before it Alumni Hall, but Rupp was a different facility and it seems to have worked. I am sure U of L will survive giving up Freedom for their new downtown arena. By some of the Mason fans logic UK would still be in Alumni and UL in Freedom. There would have been 5000 10th region fans at BOK, at least the Clark contingent would have been the same. We've been traveling for years and the distance is about the same.

The issues I have with the Fieldhouse are parking, arriving hours before the game for a seat, the oppressive heat, the restrooms in the cellar and the uncomfortable seats. It's time has come and gone. Give the BOK time and people might have memories of the great games and its traditions and us old timers can smile and remember the times before.

Let's be honest Mason has proven they can win at all the locations and they can probably manage to win some more wherever the games are played.

Well, in my opinion, the overall better team did not win the game Monday night. The better team won that night though. Is that due to home court advantage? Well... :idunno:

I don't claim to know all the gyms but I have seen quite a few and I know the one end zone is a stage and has only been used for finals, is there a reason it can't be used for all the games, or is this dictated by "tradition". As to the distance from the floor, I am sure that the students have good enough eyesight to see the court. I'm betting Cousins could make out the floor and the players on Monday night. At Clark the cheerleaders stand in the end zone in front of the students and it seems to work.

Not dictated by "tradition", but is not used for all games because the space is not needed. And I'm sure you don't care about any other games at The Fieldhouse than the one Clark County continues to lose in a.k.a the 10th Region finals!

I dont know about Cousins though, he obviously need some glasses!!!

Thank you for giving credit where credit is due.

And yes I am going to defend my opinion once again. If you did not read my entire first post (#191), I did state that tradition must be given the opportunity to grow and BoK has not had that yet. Sure there might have been the same number of fans at the BoK this year, but it still would not have had the same atmosphere. I think the capacity there is around 10,000...that means that it would only be half full. Nobody, most importantly the players, wants that!

The issues you have are legit issues and should be looked at by the Mason County officials. If they were to improve on these, then Mason County would go back to hosting the 10 Region Tournament every year!!! haha

Well, in my opinion, the overall better team did not win the game Monday night. The better team won that night though. Is that due to home court advantage? Well... :idunno:

I will admit maybe there is a little HCA...how can there not be when the Mason County players practice in that gym and play all of their home games there? However, usually when the overall better team which means better talent (as you say Clark County) does not win on a given night, it can attributed to strategy as in coaching strategy. When two Mason Co guards that are everything short of 6' are guarding two Clark Co "guards" that are both taller than 6'4" and Clark Co never goes in the post, when Clark Co players are jacking up 3's in the 4th quarter with the lead, what or who is to blame? The Home Court Advantage??? I don't think so!!! The coaches need to take control. Here I go repeating myself...games are won by a team players UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THEIR COACHES.

  17. Place one student section in one end zone and one in the other and neither is behind a bench. Cheerleaders would not block the students who are probably standing anyhow, so place them in front of their students. The cheerleaders are in front of the fans at Rupp and people seem to survive.

I should quote mcraycraft and say "learn the gyms!" haha. One of the endzones at The Fieldhouse is a stage, and that seating is only used for the 10th Region finals to accomodate the crowd size. Trust me, if a team's student section were put on the stage they would start complaining about how far away from the game they are. Not everyone is going to be happy all of the time.

And please don't try to compare the set-up at Rupp Arena with that at The Fieldhouse...

  18. I knew at least one Clark County fan would have something to say! I will quote a friend:

I ask (because I was not there), where did Montgomery County fans sit when their team played at their home gym in 2008 10th Region Tournament? I'm sure they probably sat in the seats that they had all season long. No administration in their right mind, at any school, would try to move their patrons...those that make the program possible. And let me guess, Clark County would:ohbrother:. Where the fans sit doesn't make a difference anyway. I will repeat: Mason County has 3-peated in 3 different venues. So you say that Mason Co's student section shouldn't be behind Clark Co's bench...tell your coach, although I'm sure he is well aware, that he can elect to sit at the other bench. Then you say that the coach shouldn't have to worry about it, the host school administration should take care of it...that puts Clark's student section behind their bench...wouldn't that give the advantage to Clark County? Oh is that what you wanted though??? There is no fair way to do it...life isn't fair all the time and neither is basketball. What host school wouldn't try to give their team the best chance to win? :idunno: Let me guess again, Clark County wouldn't :ohbrother::ohbrother:.

I suggest you start worrying about what's on the court rather than what's off the court...because what's on the court is what matters! One coach always told his players, "Excuses are a sign of weakness." I don't think Clark County needs anymore of those, especially from their fans. BOO-YAH!!! :scared:

Learn the gyms... Clark County fans sit on the opposite side of the gym from the benches. And if I am not mistaken, the first year in the Arena Montgomery County fans sat behind the benches, but have since moved and in the 2008 Regional final Montgomery County was opposite the benches with the Montgomery County student section in the end zone and the Mason County student section behind the Mason County bench.

I don't know the gyms and that's why I asked! And I was making a point to Gold Sunrise about her Clark County Cardinals. But thanks for the input.

Isn't that weird though...playing in the 10th Region for four years and not knowing the gyms??? I would assume that's because the gyms, the benches, the fans, and whatever else outside the lines don't have a real impact on the outcome of the game. I'm getting tired of repeating of myself, but the game is about the players on the court and how their coaches lead them. Once that KHSAA ball is tipped, the players aren't worried about anything else. 'Nuff said!!! :madman:
