Good luck to Coach Ross and the Royals. I am sure he will have them competing in no time, however that single A district is pretty tough. There are no easy games in district play. They will soon find out this isn't middle school or JV football.

CANNONSBURG — Area high school football teams will begin to buckle down for the season in the middle of July with summer practices, but the preparation has already began for late August.

Ten area teams from nine schools came together to compete in the 2008 Passing Tournament at Boyd County High School on Thursday. This concluded the passing league which lasted three weeks.

Boyd County, Lewis County, Lawrence County, Fairview, West Carter, East Carter, Johnson Central, Russell and Spring Valley, W. Va., were among the schools who competed. Russell divided itself into two squads.

All great statements but my question was never answered how many D1 players has Russell had?

Good luck to all the new coaches. French at Boyle and Larkey at Harlan probably the best. He is young but I think Nate McPeek at Fairview will have a very successful career.

Three great players I wish them luck, I guess it proves how tough it is to go Division 1 in football, thought at least Tyler Jones would get a look at a bigger school. Good luck to all they will make the Russell area proud I am sure. How many Division 1 players has Russell had?
