He has been at Western since graduation and has cleared the clearinghouse.

I believe Central will struggle greatly this year, I've heard they were Junior heavy, but with this schedule wins will be few a far between!
-
Great game with 2 pretty good teams. Congrats to the Eagles. I would love to see them at Rupp in March.
-
I'll give my vote to Auburn & Northwestern. Very good game.
No doubt, The Outback was the best. Heck of a game.
-
Tried there first, couldn't find it anywhere.
-
Predictions? Anybody know where I can see the 2010 schedule?
-
Florida would beat both of these teams by 5 tds.
-
Hopefully, we"ll get 2 wins and be in Atlanta and not have to worry about it.

The Express is an excellent movie. Better than Rudy in my opinion.

With 10 bowl tie ins, which it will be because Bama and Florida are going to the BCS, and LSU deserves to go, too, we will get a Bowl. I think if we win the last 2, very possible, it will be the Chic-Fila Bowl in Atlanta. Win 1, Music City, win neither, and back to the same bowl as last year. I we win both and I'm in Atlanta for New Year's Eve. I don't think the Outback is in play because South Carolina beat us.

Anybody know where you can see where the region finals will be played? It's not on the KHSAA site or Kentucky.com. Especially the Corbin-Prestonsburg and Somerset-Breathitt games.

With that mindset, we should class every sport -- which I think they should do anyway
I agree that each sport needs to be classed. I thought we were headed that way when the All A started like 20 years ago, but apparently not.
-
First, we need to realize that fooball and basketball are entirely different sports. Bad teams make the NCAA tournament all the time, it's the nature of the sport, that's why it's called March Madness. You can't play football every other day, either. 2nd, football really can't start any earlier because of the heat. I agree too many teams are in the playoffs, it needs to be the top 2 teams in each district. There also needs to be only 5 classes (I was also ok with 4). Spring ball can stay 15 to get 10, but it needs to be pushed back in the year because of the weather. Maybe the 3 weeks after spring break, or let each coach choose it,etc. Coaches are allowed an intra squad scrimmage now, keep it that way. Letting them play some one else is a disaster waiting to happen.

If you want to check the history books, you will find scandal throughout our checkered past. Do you really think Eddie Sutton is the only KY coach that ever did something under the table? There is other stuff and to his credit Tubby stayed away from scandal, but having integrity is only part of the job.
Tubby's tenure had its ups and downs just like all the others. I believe he won a championship that would have not been won by any past Kentucky coach (including Pitino) because of his knack for making in-game adjustments. Tubby's problem was that he would sometimes go an entire recruiting season without landing one significant recruit. He always had a star or two, but he never had a stable full.
I recently watched the '75 championship game and either Curt Gowdy or Billy Packer remarked during that game that Joe Hall could go 10 deep without dropping off. Hall had that kind of talent at UK for most of his career.
UK has not had that much extraordinary talent since 1996 and the guy doing the recruiting for most of that time was Tubby. I loved him as a coach, but he allowed the program to regress.
To an extent, I agree, but as someone said earlier, everyone has down years.
-
UK was suspended because of the Point Shaving scandal. The Cats from '49 admitted to "shaving points." The NCAA then suspended UK for the '53 season. The result was that Hagan, Ramsey and Tsroupoulus (sp?) graduated on time in the spring of '53.
The next year they were playing their last year of eligibility as grad students. 2/3 through the season a Courier Journal columnist uncovered an NCAA rule prohibiting Grad students from then playing in the NCAA. Rather than risk their #1 ranking and 25-0 mark they voted not to go to the tourney. FWIW that Cat team defeated the '54 NCAA champ in the season by 13, set a record for winning margin that stood until '72 (27 points per game), and beat the great Bob Pettit and LSU in the season as well.
I don't sugar coat things. The penalty had more to do with the players than with Rupp and it had to do with an NCAA that was concerned with Rupp's arrogance and dominance of the game then.
Read this book:Kentucky's Domain of Power, Greed and Corruption (Paperback)
by Betty Ellison (Author) No one said that YOU sugar coated things, you weren't even in the conversation. That the NCAA is out to get them could be a lot of coaches excuse. Your hisotry sounds about right. The point is that Tubby had a lot more competition, what, 200 other teams also trying to get to the Final Four? And NEVER a hint of cheating. I am a diehard UK fan, but I also live in the real world, and UK kind of invented cheating in the college game. Read the book and you will see.

There was no death penalty. Rupp had nothing to do with the point shaving scandal.
The program wa suspended for a year. You can sugar coat it all you want, but that sounds like today's death penalty to me. And yes, it did come under Rupp's watch. Check the history books.
-
Yes, but he won those four titles in his final 26 years which is one every 6.5 years. Also made six Final Fours in his final 30 years, which is one every five years. Tubby went made one Final Four in 10 years. :deadhorse:
And add to that Adolph also got the program the death penalty, the whole thing was nearly shut down. I don't remeber any even rumors of an investigation under Tubby's leadership.
-
If we hadn't ran Tubby off, we would still have a class act on and off the court. We would probably still be playing tonight, and not in this mess.
-
I have coached against Aaron, he knows what he is doing. Some of you may want to do you homework, see where Clay was before he arrived.I really don't know how some on here can critisize a coach from leaving. It's NOT YOUR JOB; it's his. Coaches move for all types of reasons. Some family, some money, wanting a level playing field, challenge, lack of support( which could be anything from the adminstration, facilities, having opportunity for quality assistants, unreasonable expectations). People in all walks of life changes jobs for one reason or another. We are no different.
-
What has Buttry ever won? The school has only won the district championship once in school history. It's not about the x's and o's; its about the Jimmy and joe's. THERE ARE NO ATHLETES AT SOUTHERN!!!!! Rick Pitino would struggle there. JMO

Games UK could win
Miami(OH)-Should bring a lot of fans to Cincy
UL- Kragthorpe's fairwell tour begins
EKU- Different competition
UL-Monroe-Hopefully it won't be as close as a couple years ago
MSU- How well does Florida's offense suite MSU's talent?
Vanderbilt-I love going to Nashville, hopefully cats can pay back to dores' for last year
Auburn- Worst college football coaching hire...maybe ever
Games they have a slight chance of winning
South Carolina-The ole' ball coach is losing some touch since he handed the keys to his kid to drive the offense.
Georgia-Probably a loss, but losing both their QB and RB will hurt.
Alabama-Probabaly a loss. See LSU 2007 for reference.
Games I'm afraid they won't win for the rest of my life
Tenneesee-Should battle close to the end, until a player for UK false starts on the game winning field goal, on the next play the kick is blocked and returned for a TD.
Florida-Tebow's back, probably one of the best guy's in the world, but I hope he regrets it.
Realistic prediction 6-6
Hopeful prediction 7-6
Wishful prediction 8-4
Intoxicated prediction 9-3 and above
I'd say your right about Floriday. Hopefully when Fulmer left, he took the dominane with him. Kiffin looks too immature for the job. I do think the ole' ball coach is losing it a little bit. A lot of our key defensive players came back. I'm predicting 8-4, and a Chic-Fillet (Peach) Bowl bid. Yes, I have been a UK football fan all my life, so I am an eternal optimist/tortured soul.

Great Season for Berea, buddy of mine coaches there. If they can cont. to grow the kid count they can be pretty good program, and they will with success.
Would be a great season if they played in a district and not a JV schedule.
-
I was looking at Berea's schedule. Their not listed as being in a class, district, or anything. Is their record considered to be varsity or jv?

UK 21, UL 6. GO CATS
Ashland one of the greatest ever
in KY Football (High School)
Posted
Thanks for that info about Kentucky High School history...I have had an opportunity over the last several years to visit and get to know Ashland's current head coach Leon Hart. He actually talked about that team and what a privilege it was to be at Ashland and how much support that town gives that team. I coach at a Central Kentucky High School myself, and have always appreciated Coach Hart and the city of Ashland for their support of Kentucky High School football.
