How did Donovan Johnson play?
-
Because it is Grant County. Am I missing something or is this a great job? Please advise
It has the potential to be a good program. People in the community want it to be successful. So I guess you are missing something. There has been good talent that has come out of Grant but there has also been a lot of talent that has been overlooked and not reached its potential.

I talked with a couple of people the other day (one was from another school) about this. He suggested what they should do is to allow ALL the kids who come out in middle school to play. But, considering Grant's size, he suggested at the very least, they should form their own intermural league with 8-12 kids per team. However, (and I thought this was the big thing) anybody that tries out and makes the "travelling team" CANNOT play on the intermural team. He said this way, you don't have teams featuring one or two "good" players that can dribble, shoot and steal the ball, with the remaining players just running up and down the court.
Same thing with the grade schools. Go ahead and hold tryouts for the traveling team. But with four grade schools, let each school form their own intermural team from the remaining players. He said parents may actually like the intermural system, because one, the games would be closer to home. And two, their kids would actually get to play.
This guy said this would accomplish two things. One, it keeps as many kids as possible interested in playing basketball up until high school. Two, it keeps kids competing against players more or less of the same talent level. (He said the "better" kids won't be challenged by forcing them to "play down". And the "lesser talented" kids won't be frustrated by either, not playing, or not touching the ball.)
Then each year, you have new tryouts for the traveling team (it's not an automatic that if you made it one year, that you make it the next). And if you truly have enough to form two traveling teams, then go ahead and form two teams.
I thought this "solution" might have some merit. And considering one of the guys I was talking to had nearly 15 years head coaching experience, I tend to trust his thinking.
Excellent post! :thumb:

Agree 44 will be a key next year. I really thought he improved over the course of the year and I would have liked to have seen 44 in the second half, especially when OC went with #30 despite the fact that SK continued to press. To me, OC's ability to start handling the press was one of the keys to the final outcome. SK probably needed to come out of it but when they got down by 5, they had to stay in it.
I hope Chambers knoggin is alright. He got tagged pretty hard for the second time in about as many weeks. He hit the floor and the next thing I knew the Henry County Constable, Two members of the Fire Department, parents, cheerleading parents and who knows else were running on the floor. Several sherrifs officers were lining up in front of the SK fans. My compliments to Nick Repka for taking over and adding some calmness to the situation, getting Cody patched together and back out on the court. I saw Chambers dad walking down with his coat, I assumed to leave and the next thing I look up at the scorers table and Chambers is going back in....pretty gutsy.[/QUOTE]
Love seeing that out of a kid. Shows alot of passion for the game.

Sounds like Coach Kinman left someone a lot of cleaning up to do. shouldn't the feeder systems and all that already be in place?
I don't think it's the elementary level that needs the improvement as much as the middle school. There are plenty of kids playing before they hit the 6th grade. The problem is so many of them are cut at 6th grade tryouts. I think having an A team and a B team and playing the more advanced kids up a grade level would help a lot by the time those kids get to high school. Grant is very bad about not playing up a kid who is in 7th grade and good enough to play 8th grade, etc. But the parents complain when a kid is moved up. Lot of work to be done. :idunno:

Kieth would do a great job but i doubt he gets involved at that level or is he able to?? What do you think Freak91.
No, he isn't able to get involved at the High School level. The program needs someone with no ties to the program anyway, IMO.

Someone I think the program overlooks because he is the father of Coach Kinmon is Keith Kinmon. Coached a few years of AAU basketball for the 08-09 Varsity team that went 19-11. Very high basketball IQ, not only knows the x's and o's but is a very good motivator.

SK by a dozen. Steiner is a very good coach. Chambers will have a good shooting game.
-
Whoever gets this coaching position will have a very difficult task in their hands. I'm very curious to see who gets the job. Hopefully they can take the young group they will be given and head in the right (winning) direction!
-
Nope
Then what is the reason?
-
Utter deserves the job.
Names I've heard include
Mefford: Old W-Town Coach
Billy Hicks: Probably wishful thinking
Kyle Bennet: Doubt it
Whoever the South Oldham coach is.
Haven't heard any of these names mentioned for the Head Coaching position.
Names that have been talked about are
Jon Jones: Gallatin
Steve Simpson: South Oldham
Steve Wright: South Laurel
Scott Hundley
I have had no one mention Billy Hicks...that seems rather ludacris for his name to be mentioned.
and..About the comment toward criticizing..well..winning cures that problem. What fans wouldn't complain going from 19-12 to winning just 10 games. Just a tough year for the program and no one enjoys watching a selfish team that does not play together. Best of luck to the Braves tonight at Walton.

This is a good move for the program. The superintendent is a smart man.
Sounds like someone is sour. Remember, the superintendent did not fire Coach Kinmon, he left for another position in the school system that required him to give up his whistle. I can already tell by your attitude you do not have the credentials to coach and lead a varsity basketball team. Your lack of respect for Coach Kinmon insults what he has done for the program and insults the players that played for him. To have the audacity to insult a highly respected man over a computer bitterns me and now everything you say I will take with a grain of salt.

Why did they shoot 26 threes...? They have 3 of the biggest men in the region..why not pound the ball down low?
-
Didn't they lose by 18?
-
Walton should be tough this year. They return all starters and have a new head coach. Grant County lost 4 seniors including 2 all region players but return starters Isaiah Wartman and Mike Davis. They will be young but I look for them to make some noise toward the end of the year.

Is this a recruiting thing? I thought the kids get to play and there is college scouts watching. Or maybe I'm wrong.
-
Congrats KJ. Keep up the hardwork!
-
Congratulations to Rump! Outstanding player but even better person! Good luck!

Central's band ROCKS! I have as much fun watching them as I do any game I've ever been to they were playing. Shoot, sometimes I've paid more attention to the band than the game.
The band is good. But I think everyone was watching the dancers, not the band!

Central by 15.

SV wins this one. 66-62
Refs Cracking down?
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Posted
Referees should watch the game and block out the crowd. IMO a referee should have a member of the crowd escorted out for cussing. I think most referees do a good job but there is one in particular (not going to name this 8th Region official) that makes the game about him instead of the players. Which I may be wrong, just what I see from his games.
