  1. Agreed, no reason to really even play the starters more than 10 minutes or some IMO. Get them some minutes to keep them fresh and pull them.

Elliott by 14-only because I think Mays pulls his starters after the first.[/QUOTE]

BigSpikes--Elliott is good my friend, but not that good that they can pull all the starters with 6 minutes left in the 1st half. Maybe 2 or 3 subs in the most of the 3d quarter and then all subs with 6 minutes left in the game. Besides they are off Tuesday and Wednesday before playing a relatively weak opponent Thursday night. 72 hours rest for these youngsters is a long time. Heck, like Dale says you never know and it may be subs can't get in until 3 minutes or so left in the game. Nothing in HS Basketball is a given.

  2. It would not be a HUGE upset if Shelby Valley won.

They will be a tough matchup for Elliot

I agree Rooster. Shelby Valley's 4 losses have been with Justice out or back playing at 50%. With him healthy they have knocked the socks off everybody, including some good teams like Henry Clay and Walton, GA and blitzed an average Ashland team 100-47. I think people think I'm crazy when I say they are a Top 5 team in KY?? Their front line is huge and Justice is one of the best point guards in the state as a junior. This potential game will be a tough battle for both teams and could probably be a 1 or 2 pt. game with OT.

  3. I would have to go with Cantrell's ratings and have Hazard vs. Bardstown in SF #1 and Elliott vs. Shelby Valley in SF #2. Hazard and Elliott County in the final with Elliott as the All A Champs. Shelby Valley will have a tougher quarter final with NCC but should prevail. Elliott and Shelby Valley should have all Eastern Kentucky rocking. When healthy I think Shelby Valley is a Top 5 team in the state and can play with anyone. So I think Elliott vs. Shelby Valley is a matchup of Top 5 teams.

Just so I don't have to answer the question here are my top 10 rankings as of today: 1) Holmes 2) Scott County 3) Elliott Co. 4) Eastern 5) Shelby Valley 6) J-Town 7) Ballard 8) Corbin 9) Mason Co. 10) Bryan Station/Christian County/Lexington Catholic (3 way tie)

Hazard I would rank somewhere around the 15-17 range even though they haven't played to potential yet.

  4. I'd like to see 7th/9th in one semi and 11th/16th in the other.

I will vote with Eta on this matchup on Saturday morning. But according to some others on some other posts Elliott will have to draw the three worst teams (of the 16 that make it to Rupp) in their quarter bracket just to make it to Saturday morning. I guess that means they would have to draw in the quarter bracket with 1,3,8, or 12 to have a good shot at the semis.

  5. Good job, Elliott but Class "A" shouldn't be there goal it should be to win at RUPP ARENA. This team should at least make it to the second round at state.

Over 100 schools compete in this tournament and they shouldn't have as a goal to win this tournament?? Come on now!! They are representing the small schools in their region of the state at this event. You make it sound like they should just eliminate the tournament and that it has no importance whatsoever. That is a slap to all the little small schools and communities around the state. And here we go again with the comment, "They just might sqeak/crawl by the first round of the state if they get the best draw of any of the 16 teams". That's hogwash..........

  6. Just saw the box score and Chris Knipp was the 2d leading scorer with 18 points and 2 treys. Chris was the only starter who didn't make the All-Tournament team, but he played good basketball during the tournament and deserved a spot IMO. I guess you just don't put the whole starting five on the All-Tournament team?? I remember the quote, The sum of the parts is greater than the individual. This Elliott County bunch is a TEAM and all the parts can hurt you in a bunch of different ways on any given night.

  7. Just got in from the game. Ferg was the MVP and did a great job on 6'7" Mike Terry. Terry only had about 3 pts. or maybe 5 pts. when the starters went out with about 4 minutes left. He got some more garbage baskets after that. Game was never in doubt from start to finish. Really EC didn't shoot all that well or it would have been 50 vs. 30+ when the starters left halfway through the final period.

Rose Hill fans have reason for optimism the next few years. Most all those kids were sophomores and freshman. Freshman Corey Gregg is a load and has got to be one of the top freshman in the state. That kid is super strong and knows how to score in the paint. Must have had something like 20 points and 10-12 rebounds against a really good defense.

Richmond make way---Here come the Lions. McBrayer Arena should be rocking and rolling. Heck, Joe B. may be in attendance when EC plays??

  8. One thing is for certain, EC will not hesitate to run the score up and humiliate if at all possible.

What are the kids suppose to do?? They play hard from start to finish whether they are behind, tied, or ahead. I guess when they get 20 points up they are suppose to loaf and start shooting hook shots from the three point line!!! These kids don't want to humiliate any team. They just play and play hard each night out. By the way, Rick has been playing the subs in some games for as much as 12 minutes of the 2d half. If they wanted to humilate some of these teams they would have left the starters in the whole game and we would have several more games with well over 130 points scored. We had 67 at the half against Menifee and I guarantee if they wanted to they could have ran up 135 points.

  9. Makes perfect sense. This is a once-in-a-generation team that is playing in Sandy Hook. In your honest opinion, what will the situation be next year?

Obviously not as packed every single night like this year. But with Timmy Knipp and some good young players back they will still be competitive in the 16th region and have a good crowd each night. Heck what is there to do in the evenings in Sandy Hook but attend a HS Basketball game.

  10. Not from my advantage point each night. Got to arrive 2 hours before game time to get a good seat for Elliott County games. Then by the time the JV game starts the gym is packed to capacity and they are turning people away.

Like a snow ball getting bigger and bigger as it goes downhill, the situation will only get worse in the coming weeks. All the people who haven't been to a game in years and years will start arriving soon. Mason game (at Elliott) I plan on going to school with the players and then sneaking into the gym to reserve my seat before school lets out. :D:laugh:

  11. They start 6'4", 6'6", 6'7". Pretty big for a high school front line.

Rose Hill has to control tempo and the boards to have any chance. Elliott has proven themselves to be the regions best so if Rose Hill wins it would have to be considered a huge upset.

I had forgot Kennedy who is in that 6'6" range. Gregg may not be 6'4" but closer to 6'3". Really doesn't matter because he is very strong and aggressive for a young freshman. When I saw Rose Hill he (Gregg) impressed me more than Terry or Kennedy. Should be an entertaining game Friday night to say the least.

  12. 112 is only possible for Elliot Co.

For the record this is Elliott's 4th 100 point game this season and this senior group's 10th career 100 point game (2 as sophomores, 4 as juniors, and 4 this year so far). Could have easily had 100 points in three other games this year: Fairview (96), Lewis (95), Rowan (90), but let off the gas in the last 8-12 minutes.

Elliott is averaging right at 90ppg. Most impressive 100 point game: 107 against a quality opponent in South Charleston, WVA.

  13. I think Rose Hill has improved more than any team in the region to this point of the season. Have they improved enough to play with Elliott County? NO! Inside play is good enough but guard play not near ready for Elliott's pressure. imo

Key will be how Rose Hill's guard handle the pressure. It will be relentless and they have not experienced anything like it. Also, how well Rose Hill's young freshman handle the pressure. I like Elliott to win by a score of 92-67 as they are playing real well the last couple of games.

  14. Game was over at halftime as Elliott scored 67 points and lead 67-33 with Ferg putting up 25 big points. Subs dominated the 2d half. If starters would have played the whole 2d half no doubt Elliott would have scored over 130 points. Menifee wanted to run and Elliott said game on and let the horses run. T. Knipp had most of those blocks in the 1st half. Seemed like a human flyswatter in there. On one Menifee trip he blocked 3 straight shots.

    T. Knipp is playing well and his brother Chris is shooting well from the three and had some real nice moves finishing at the rim. Both Knipps are improving and playing real well as of late and that could spell real trouble for future opponents. Having five threats on the court makes Elliott very versatile.
