I've heard Rick Pitino was offered and declined and suggested Travis Ford. If true, why does UK keep listening to what Rick Pitino has to say when it comes to hiring a basketball coach.
-
I wish you were wrong LABS. I think he deserves another year.
BTW, if he's out, have they told him?
And I'm guessing the other candidate is BD.
I hope the candidate is Billy D. The only other possibility at this time would be Travis Ford and this would be a step back and a possible mistake.
-
Having a free out is extremely uncommon. No chance, again this is my opinion, that that clause is in there unless Foley was confident he wasnt going to lose his man to another college.
The NBA is a HUGE possibility (that seems to be being ignored) still and they wouldn't be switching coaches at this time of year.
BD's goal is to be an NBA coach, yes the Magic didn't work out, for whatever reason,, but that is his dream.
Do you know Billy D personally to know that his dream is to coach in the NBA?
Most people don't pass on thier dream when it comes knocking on thier door.:idunno:

They did lose to UCLA, 82-81, in Anaheim during the 1994-95 season.
Yes, but the quote I was correcting, he said under Tubby they lost to UCLA in Anaheim.
-
Sorry about that, I really thought we lost that game. My "old timers" is flairing up again.
They lost a neutral site game in Madison Square Gardens to UCLA Tubby's second year. Maybe you might have mixed the two up.
-
They lost to UCLA in the Wooden Classic out in Anaheim while Tubby was coaching. I'd consider this a true road loss.
No, actually they beat UCLA in Anaheim 52-50, so maybe we can consider this a true road win.

No, he's saying that he said Donovan wouldn't come to UK.
And he thinks he is the only person on this board that said Donovan wasn't coming to UK?
-
I have absolutely no idea or information.and I'm glad, lol.
I do find it funny though, that there are so many on here who still claim they were right last time and I am the only one who actually was, from the very beginning.
So, you predicted that UK was going to hire BCG?
-
100% agree. What role does he fill? Its not PG.
BTW, Maggard says the kid is closer to 6'1 than 6'4.
Doesn't UK already have a kid who doesn't measure up athletically by SEC standards but who plays hard and shoots well? Isn't he a walk-on?
A writer for the catspause says he is 6'2 175. Very skinny and slow footed is what I'm hearing, but has a high basketball IQ and can shoot it well from deep. So, I guess we will have to wait and see.
-
I hope this kid proves me wrong, but this offer has me really scratching my head.
-
Maybe, in time, the best thing for UK is for him to be gone...but how can you say that is the best thing for UK at this point. The situation is already bad enough, and if you bring in an "elite" coach to the biggest program in the country and send him packing in 2 years what message are you sending about other coaches you would like to coach at UK? It would be worse too send him off now then it would to let him be and see how it goes in the next year or two. No coach will ever come to UK if you get someone in there that inherits a mid-major caliber team IMO and doesn't even get time to do anything with them. Let him be, at this time next season if it is the same result, then talk about getting rid of him! :ylsuper::thumb:
Great Post!:thumb:

According to Matt May of the Catspause, at today's presser, BCG said they are playing to win and that all the players on the roster have very little postseason experience. He says this will give them valued experience. So with that said look for the same rotation we've seen all year.

I can't believe this is a thread.:idunno:

Maybe, but your statement was:
This is just a bunch of hot air coming from a man who knows nothing about the program.
That has nothing to do with the announcing end. Hammonds knows more about the program than any of us. You do recall his start was with WLEX and interviewing Rupp at the end of his career, don't you? He's covered the SEC for decades. Therefore I think your initial statement about Hammond's knowledge is pretty much off the mark.
As to the announcing end, he's done pretty well for himself in every venue he's been hired by Networks to do from basketball, to the Olympics, to Horse Racing, et al.
OK, I apologize about the quote about knowing nothing about the program. That's why I probably shouldn't post on here when I'm upset over a loss. But, I still think he is is way off base about Darius. Listening to Hammonds the last couple years, he probably meant to say AJ Stewart or Deandre Liggins instead of Darius Miller. If you listened to him the last couple years, he says things that really make a person scratch thier head. It's like he's watching a totally different game than the one he's commentating.
-
Hammond graduated from UK, lives in Lexington, and is probably about as connected as you can get to UK and Lex's movers and shakers. Do your homework.
Well, I guess we'll just see about that when Darius is playing for the Big Blue next year!
-
Thank you, I was thinking the same response. :thumb:
Hammonds has been an awesome broadcaster throughout a tenure that has lasted over 4 decades.
Yes, and he has slipped over the last few years! He gives incorrect info 2-3 times a game in every game he calls. Who cares if he graduated from UK, his time is passing as a good announcer.
-
Great for Patterson. I support Billy G if Patterson does, I trust Patterson.
On another note, I didn't watch the end of the game. I heard the announcers were talking about Darius Miller transfering, is there truth to this statement, and if so are there any rumors that anyone has heard?
Tom Hammonds questioned whether Darius would be back. This is just a bunch of hot air coming from a man who knows nothing about the program.

If you don't want to watch them, then don't. I was frustrated for many years with UK football, ... but I never quit watching or supporting them. Nowadays, I am much happier so I look at it as patience paying off.
There is only 1 senior on this team, and he never plays so the more experience, the better off they are. I know that they haven't shown progress this season, but a few more games couldn't hurt them.
I will use the same line used on Tubby by his haters for BCG, ... if you can't take the heat with what you are paid, get out of the kitchen. When it was more than Tubby wanted to deal with, he moved on. If it is already more than BCG can handle, then he should as well. I hope he doesn't, everyone comes back, and his recruits make UK better next season. But if he can't take the heat, then he should go back to the Big 12.
I didn't say I wouldn't watch them! My schedule is worked around UK games. I haven't missed a UK game in at least 10 years. They have 4 juniors that get the majority of the playing time. This team is not that young. If you can't figure it out in the first 33 games, what makes you think a few more will help.
-
I think Tom Hammond was talking about BCG not being back... No way Miller leaves. If he was talking about Miller, he's just wrong...
Hammonds did mention Miller as possibly not returning. He says alot of things during telecasts that makes me scratch my head. I used to like him as an announcer, but over the last few years he says things during games that makes you wonder if he is watching the same game that he is announcing.
-
They need more games, so they really need to play in the NIT.
Why do they need more games? So BCG's seat can get even hotter when they go one and done or 1-1 at best.
-
I heard that about Miller when he signed last year. Glad the prognosticators were wrong on him.
So, who will Hood play over. He plays Meeks position. Jodie gets 35 mins a game.
-
Didn't they win the conference regular season title?
Nope. Radford won the regular season.
-
BCG will be back and so will PP and Meeks.
If he doesn't get the job done next year and at least win the SEC East and make a run to the Sweet 16 he should be gone.
They get the PG from TX, Jon Hood, Pilgram, Orton. Along with Meeks, PP and Miller will be a much improved player next year.
PG from Texas will not see any time nor will John Hood.
-
It's finally over. A miserable, long, frustrating season is finally over. If BCG is indeed going to stay, he better figure something out fast.
It's not over yet, we still have to follow this miserable season to the NIT.

He's won one game in the NCAAT in his career. This is a step back for sure if hired.
