  1. One question that has not come up,will Spritzky be coaching next year.

There has been rumors for a couple of months that he was going to retire.

I have not heard anything lately, but a couple of Dixie people, I know where saying Brossart will be taking over.

A coaching change could have a bigger impact than who will be back next year.

I was at the year end banquet. Didn't sound like he had any intention to retire as coach.

  2. Not that it matters at this point!! But. I think your sats are wrong on Nichols. I think he had 26 catches for 500 yds. Plus he was ranked #9 in the state (out of all players) some considered him to be the #1 TE in the state. Ranked # 47 TE in the country by Rivals. Fugate is a very good WR but he is a true WR playing ball in an area of KY that does not typically throw the ball a whole lot. So I am guessing his stats alone did not get him over the hump. Considering they are team mates and good friends I'm sure that they support each other no matter who gets the nod. But I do think the coaches got it right in ranking Nichols higher than Fugate. I am susprised that Nichols wasn't 2nd team. But as already noted they can't make us all happy.

Got the stats from cincinnati.com, I think they are for regular season only so they were most likely higher after the playoffs. Reason i said it was deceiving was because if you didn't know better you would think he was actually a wide receiver. All the other positions get recognition so why not break the TE out and give them there due. I wasn't trying to take anything away from Nichols, just trying to point out how the list doesn't make sense all the time.

  3. What even makes less sense, Nichols of Ryle made honorable mention with 22 receptions for 354 yards and 3 td while his teammate Fugate had 31 receptions for 670 yards and 7 td's. Nichols was ranked 19th at the WR spot in Northern KY and Fugate was 2nd. Have no clue what the AP looks at. :isurrender:

  4. I think that Highlands will win this game rather comfortably, but Dixie's offense if clicking could cause some problems for the Birds. The problem for Dixie is that their defense cannot stop anyone so for them to win this game they will have to outscore HHS which I do not think that they can do.

Is there another way for Dixie to win that we don't know about.

Offensive stats weren't as big as I had expected, but with the turnovers, maybe they had a short field to work with most of the night.

The short field came on both of Ashlands scores. Dixie turned the ball over twice inside the 20. One on a muffed punt and the other on a fumble. Ashlands scoring drives had a combined total of 30-35 yards. Other than a few passes Ashland didn't move the ball.

  6. Dixie would get a boost in their strength of schedule by playing Highlands, for sure. Not sure how much credit they get by losing the game 52 - 9. Although I suppose that loss could be seen as a bigger ratings boost than beating Greenup Co 51 - 7.

Dixie was playing right with Highlands until the 5 minute mark of the 2nd quarter. Turnovers by Dixie and a quick 21 points by Highlands pretty much did them in. I think Dixie pretty much packed it in at that point. Dixie's capable of playing with the best of them if they could limit the turnovers and penalty's that have stopped them in their tracks.

  7. I don't know much about Dixie. But, I expect them to be good and for this to be a great game.

Ashland's offense is flashy at times - in spurts. But the Tomcat defense is solid all the time - the overall team speed is very good. The Tomcats are 9-1, which is their best regular season record since 1990.

    Tell us something about Dixie.

Dixie runs a spread offense that puts up a ton of yards, but have had problems with the turnovers. Even Highlands yielded almost 400 yards of offense to Dixie, but could only muster 9 points because of turnovers.

  8. Was behind the CovCath bench during the game, and I saw the ref aleast 4 times tell Dixie to get back and that was just in the firat half.

The flag could have been thrown anytime after first warning and the head coach ejected after third time.

I guess you want to ignore that I acknowlege that Dixie players move out of the box. What I said was the in the excitement of the moment the players move up. That happens on both sides of the field just about every game. But only Dixie got warnings Friday. Both warning and inforement came on big Dixie plays down their side line because they were excited about the play. I would venture to guess on a few of the big Cov Cath plays Cov Cath players were doing exactly the same thing Dixie players were doing.

  9. Even if the flag is thrown, the yardage should be enforced on the succeeding play because it is a NON PLAYER foul. TD should stand. The official and every member of that crew was wrong. I dont think Dixie was robbed of a win, just robbed of a TD and 28-20 lead and momentum.

Bingo. Except one could argue that it kind of did rob them of a win. Final score 39-34, add those 6 points and the out come is just a tad different. And yes i realize that the game most likely would of been played out different had those 6 points held. In a close game those points were huge.

  10. CovCath used the blue soccer line as there box which was behind the football box, I believe you can have 3 coaches along the sidelines.

I do not know how the rule is stated, but penalty acured during the play.

Also if we are playing if and but's Dixie could have been flagged for too many players on the field.

You can have a penalty on every play if you wanted to .

Watching the game last night and the camera behind Dixie's bench, Dixie coach's were doing the same thing.

You only know that dixie players were out of the box because of the camera's. In the excitement of the game the players move up, I'm pretty sure that goes for both sides. My point about the Cov Cath coaches was to demonstrate that the 2 refs didn't quite call the sideline violation the same way. Only dixie recieved the warning while Cov Cath recieved none.

I was told that the officials applied the penalty wrong and i believe that's what ended up causing them to be suspended for this week.

  11. I quess you can see the future.

There is noway you can say Dixie would have won the game.

Maybe CovCath does not attemps a field goal in the 3rd quarter, gets a first down and score a TD. Dixie did not stop CovCath's QB in 2nd half and he avg better than 6 yards.Noone knows for sure how that game ends.

As for the call, Dixie had been warned all night about the sidelines.

The ref's before the game told both teams that the sideline rule will be enforced, and before the season they went to all schools.

I was also told by a person who I trust want he tells me, that a couple a plays before this play the ref did run into a player on the sidelines.

Watched the game last night on TV and Dixie not only had players outside the box, had players on the field. The ref threw the flag at Dixie's 35 before the play was complete, so how is that different than holding during a play.

And if you watched the game you would see Cov Cath coaches in the box and on the field all night so it really wasn't called even. I would even venture to guess that players were in the box but since the cameras were on dixie side we really can't say for sure.

Like I said in an earlier post it's not that the call was made, but that the proper inforcement wasn't made. The penalty should of been tacked onto the extra point or on the kick-off. If there were so many warnings to both teams about this rule you would think the refs would know how to enforce the penalty.
