[h=1]Mekale McKay and Jaelin Sanford lead Moore basketball to 73-72 win over PRP[/h][h=2]Sixth Region race looks up for grabs[/h]With district play set to start Monday, the race for the Sixth Region boys’ basketball title appears to be a deep one.

Moore High School showed Friday night that it just might be the leader of that pack.

Mekale McKay delivered a Mr. Basketball-type performance and Jaelin Sanford sank the game-winning free throw with 1.4 seconds left to give the host Mustangs a 73-72 victory over Pleasure Ridge Park.

“We’re still probably third or fourth in the region behind PRP and Bullitt East for most people,” said Moore coach Shedrick Jones Jr., whose team remained perfect (11-0) against Sixth Region opponents. “But if we defend, we can play with anybody. That’s a fact.”

McKay had 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead Moore (25-4), which is No. 6 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings. Jamon Sanford had 18 points and William Bryant added 16 points and nine rebounds as Moore extended its winning streak to nine.

Jeril Taylor nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead No. 3 PRP. Cortez Macklin added 17 points for the Panthers, who led 47-40 at halftime but couldn’t hold on.
