ASHLAND — Turns out, Kentucky Christian University has what Ryan Whetsel wanted all along.

 

Namely, a football program not far away that provides an opportunity to earn playing time right away. And just as importantly, a nursing program to help him reach career goals.

 

Ashland’s standout defensive back/wide receiver signed with KCU on Wednesday in the high school cafeteria.

 

“I looked at a bunch of schools,” Whetsel said of his recruiting experience. “KCU being close to home, and hearing the vision coach (Mike) Furrey has for the program really got me interested.”

Had a chance to see a couple of games this past season and I was really impressed with how good NAIA football is. I'll have to say we saw some big time players in Mid South Conference play. They draw from as far away as Florida and Alabama. Looks to be a very competitive league.
