Walton Verona 59 Williamstown 32 (8th Region All A)

Game was never in doubt. Walton did not play with alot of intensity and shot very poorly. But, a win is a win.

Sounds a little contradictory: game never in doubt but no intensity. How much intensity you expect when you win by 27 if my math is correct? Oh and not to shoot well either yeah sounds like they weren't too intense.

No it makes perfect sense. You don't start the game already up 27 points. They did not come out very intense from the start. I think madman's point is if they play with intensity and shoot well they win that game by 47.

Glad you can understand what I am saying. It was not a good performance last night. They beat Williamstown by 27 simply because they are that much better even on an off night. Again, a win is a win.

I am glad you cleared that 27 point thing up and i guess it would make sense to you. You would want to win by 47 obviously. I guess its hard to be humble. You shoot poorly and don't play hard and win by 27. My point is that it may be hard to keep pouring it on when the game is never in doubt. Also do you even want to keep pouring it on? You may even need to save your legs for later tournament games or heaven forbid you may have a little mercy on another team. But nothing to me if you want to take shots at losing teams when they have just been trounced.

I still have no clue what your talking about but Walton was the better team and won the game.

It's amazing how you are taking what I said and running with it in a different direction. Actually, saying I said something that I never did. Short and sweet: I said that Walton didn't play with alot of intensity and shot poorly. No where did I mention running up the score or as you say it, "pouring it on". Actually, I am in favor of a "mercy" rule for high school so that doesn't happen. Even if they had played with a higher level of intensity and shot a better percentage, the final margin would have probably been about the same. Coach Clinkenbeard is not going to embarrass other teams by running up the score and I'm in complete agreement. Also, I believe you are the one who came up with the magical 47 point win, not me. I simply stated, a win is a win. Additionally, no where did I take a shot at Williamstown for losing the game (or as you negatively put it "been trounced"). I have alot of respect for Coach Kennedy and what she is trying to accomplish at Williamstown. She has a difficult job and she is trying to do the best that she can with what she has. No different than any other coach. You take what you have and try to make them the best they can be. It is what it is. I hope this clears it up for you so you won't have to misquote me again.

If I am a coach...and I am not...but if I was, I would want my team to be efficient with few mistakes, play unselfishly and play together, execute the offense with focus and not turn the ball over, play physical in your face team defense, win the rebounding battle, and make at least 40 percent of their shots. In other words, I would want them to play well and with intensity. This desire would have nothing to do with being proud, nothing to do with running up the score, nothing to do with pouring it on, and nothing do to with not having mercy. In all reality, it would have NOTHING to do with the other team. It would, however, have everything to do with the team I am coaching and doing what we are supposed to do on the court. I think fans have this same opportunity. They can observe the game and come away saying - wow, we didn't play as well as we could have or we didn't do a very good job at certain parts of the game. That is a lot different than saying - Dang, I wish we would have beat them by more than 27. The difference is on one hand, you are wanting your team to play the best they can, verses the other where you are wanting something bad for the other team.

Let make it simple - When Walton played Boone, I am sure there are those that wanted them to play better and with more intensity at certain points of the game. When Walton played Owen, again, I am sure that some folks wanted them to play better and with more intensity. The same goes for when they played Notre Dame. If you are a consistent fan, wouldn't it be correct and ok to want your team to play better and with more intensity on all the other games too...Williamstown included. You can't tell me that is is ok to call for better play and intensity in games that are close wins or losses, and its not ok to call for better play and more intensity in games that you are heavily favored in. Whoever your playing - it isn't any different.
