PtownDude
Hancock dominated this game early. The Hornets had 297 yards at halftime to just 129 for Caldwell, but the Tigers were down just 21-15, thanks in large part to a 77-yard fumble return TD. Hancock then had a chance to add to its lead in the third quarter with a 4th down play coming up from about a foot away from the goal line. However, in one of the craziest turning points I've ever seen to a football game, one of the Hancock linemen complained about the spot on third down (thinking the Hornets had crossed the goal line) and called one of the refs a name. Needless to say, he got penalized 15 yards. So instead of 4th and a foot, it's 4th and goal outside the 15. Caldwell intercepted on the next play, eventually went down and scored to take the lead and led the rest of the way. Hancock had three players rush for over 100 yards (Luke Case 162, Chance Hamilton 133 and Dylan Hubbard 127) and outgained Caldwell 457-371. But the Hornets were done in by four turnovers and one lineman who couldn't keep his mouth shut. Brandon Sigler ran for 118 yards and 3 TDs for Caldwell. Blake Hodges completed 18 of 26 passes for 224 and two scores for Caldwell. Caldwell played well for most of the second quarter and the second half, but Hancock had a chance to put the game away early. Definitely a nice win for Caldwell, but the Hancock people still have to be shaking their heads over this one.
