#25 GRC wins their first game of the softball state tourney over Ashland 5-1.

 

GRC will now face # 6 Mercy who defeated Scott Co. Game is scheduled for around 1:15.

Prep Softball: Lady Cards win tourney opener

 

Clark (33-9), making its third appearance in five years, advanced to the second round and will take on Louisville Mercy, which posted a 7-1 victory over Scott County.

 

In the tourney opener, Lady Cardinals pitcher Amy Haggard struck out 10 batters and scattered seven hits in going the distance.Haggard walked the first batter she faced, but settled down and didn't give up a run until the Lady Tomcats tallied their lone score of the contest in the fifth inning.

 

Clark collected 10 hits, led by Caitlin Collins and Shamy Williams with two hits apiece. Alli Martin, Morgan Woosley, Kayla Jones, Kelsey May, Rebecca Strange and Meagan Bealert each had a hit, with Bealert's hit going for extra bases. Ashland pitcher Katelyn Miller finished with nine strickouts.
