The Lady 'Stangs fast pitch softball team jumped at the chance to play one of the 11th Region's top teams and pitchers Thursday evening in Frankfort, Ky. Western Hills though after five innings proved to be just that a top team.

The now 18-11 team held the Lady 'Stangs to no baserunners through the first five innings while pitcher Des Barnes was striking out 8 and hurling a perfect game. Western Hills led 1-0.

Things looked dire when Emily Schubert led off the bottom of the sixth. At one point seven straight Lady 'Stangs had struck out. Schubert coaxed a base on balls on a full count and reached first only to be hurt when the catcher attempted a pick off play. Schubert, for now, remained in the game as Maria Greis lined out to second and Natalie Woeste fanned to bring Paige Baynum to the plate with two out. Baynum launched a long double to left to score Schubert as Brossart tied the game on their first hit at 1-1.

In the seventh, Lindsay Griffith opened with a single to rightcenter and was forced at second by a Jenna Bezold groundout. Molly Williams then popped up in the infield but the ball fell untouched and bounded away from the secondbaseman. When she attempted to throw to third to nail Bezold, Williams advanced to second with one out. Alicia Miller then popped to short and that brought up Chelsie Brewer. Brewer had entered the game replacing Schubert and was playing right with Woeste moving to short. Brewer drilled a hard grounder to short that was misplayed and Bezold scored from third with Williams moving to third. Moments later Designated Hitter Maria Greis also drilled one to short that was misplayed and suddenly the Lady 'Stangs led 3-1.

Western Hills did not go quietly. After all, they had been undefeated at home in over a month and last lost there to Scott County 5-3 in April.

Jane Herrod had a single and then Joan Cammuse drilled a one out double to right center in the bottom of the seventh to cut it to 3-2 with the tying run on second. Tes Barnes then lofted a fly to Brewer in right with Cammuse advancing on a tag to third. But hold on... Brossart appealed she had left to soon at second and the umpires agreed called her out ofr the games final out.

Alicia Miller recorded her 20th win of the season and the Lady 'Stangs advanced to 23-6 on the year. They will now play Lloyd Friday at 6 PM in Erlanger.

The team celebrated by munching on some home cooked french fries after the game. :deadhorse:

Thats was an impressive win. Maybelle and i couldn't see it tonight. Junior had a tee ball game so we ended up going to see Calvary and Villa Madonna. Villa might be a state contender after that 23-0 win. Wow :notworthy:
