This was a great game to watch between two teams that were very hungry. Many of these boys have played together on the same AAU team for the past 4 yrs and they both brought it.

 

The 1st qtr was back and forth with the Birds leading 13-12. Highlands turned up the defensive pressure and 6'4 8th grader Nick True used his size advantage as the Birds jumped out in front 25-20 at halftime. The Breds made a nice 3rd qtr run to tie the game and it was tied after 3.

 

The 4th qtr was very intense with both teams matching baskets and big plays. The Breds jumped ahead by 4pts with about 1.30 left in the game on a huge 3pter by Nick Seibert. The Birds got a little rattled and turned it over but an NCC player missed a wide open layup that would have put them up 6. The Birds came down and Luke Turner knocked down a huge jumpshot to cut it to 2pts. NCC would then turn it over to the Birds who trailed by 2 but had the ball with 40 seconds left. Bailey Witte was fouled and went to the line with 38 seconds left and a double bonus situation. He nailed both FT's and tied the game at 42. The Breds came down and had an opportunity to win the game but a stingy man-man defense held tough and the game went to OT.

 

In the OT the Breds tried to press but the Birds broke it easily and scored a couple easy baskets pushing their lead out to 3. It never got closer as the Breds made an attempt to tie it on a last second 3pter that never got close.

 

Nick True led the Bluebirds with 18 pts and 8 rebounds. Luke Turner had 8 and played well at the PG position. Witte put in 7pts and played great defense on NCC's top gun Michael Beuter. Jac Collinsworth also scored 7 while David Christian pitched in 4pts and got a couple really crucial rebounds.

 

The Breds were led by Michael Beuter with 17 as he connected on five 3pters. This kid can shoot the rock, he had Witte in his face the entire game and still ran off picks and fired in some long range bombs. Josh Cain was very solid for the Breds pitching in 14pts.

I love Nick True! His best basketball is still in front of him,

2 teams I always root for 1)the Birds, and 2)whoever is playing the Breds.

Great win for the frosh.

Nick could dominate at the Frosh level if he keeps working hard and developing. He hopefully will grow another 3-4 inches as well.
