Ryle 5 Cincinnati McNicholas 4

Featured Replies

Close, exciting ballgame as Ryle beats a very good McNick (2008 Division II Regional Champs) ballclub at McNick's place. Etscheid pitches first 4 innings and gives up a couple earned runs and a couple unearned, but a good overall first outing. Kyle Donovan relieves the final three innings and was absolutely lights out and earns the win. Conner Hempel and Cody Meier both have 2-run doubles and Meier hit the ball very hard every at-bat. The defense looked good, especially an incredible flat-out vertical diving catch by Ryan Donovan in RF and a nice game-ending catch of a line drive by Hempel. A good start for the Raiders after getting washed out their first two games. St. Henry tomorrow at Ryle's home field.

Anytime you beat McNick at McNick you should leave with a big smile on your face.

What position did Conner Hempel play? 1B? 3B?

3B, as Etschied was pitching. Not sure what happens when Etch isn't pitching. Possibly some DH'ing at times.

Hempel is a stud for a sophomore. I look forward to seeing him play this year.

Tremendous athlete with lots of potential. I still see his true position being 1B though.
