Surprise, surprise: The Lady Tigers are winners of three straight, but I believe the gap between them and the other 13th Region teams is getting smaller. What’s ahead: Clay County has a big game at home Friday against 49th District rival Jackson County before hosting Pineville on Tuesday. 2. Middlesboro (13-7, 9-2) What’s the scoop: The Lady Yellow Jackets are beginning to peak at the right time. Surprise, surprise: Middlesboro has captured six wins in a row during the past two weeks by winning three games in the All A 13th Region Tournament, while knocking off North Laurel (63-55), Bell County (61-39) and Harlan (76-47). What’s ahead: The Lady Yellow Jackets will be in action Friday at home against Pineville before a road date with Harlan County on Monday. 3. Harlan County (14-4, 7-1) What’s the scoop: The Lady Black Bears remain a dangerous team. Surprise, surprise: Harlan County might get a test at home Friday against Whitley County. What’s ahead: The Lady Black Bears will host Whitley County Friday and Grainger, Tenn. on Saturday. 4. North Laurel (11-7, 4-2) What’s the scoop: The Lady Jaguars had No. 10 ranked Lincoln County on the ropes before losing, 41-37. Surprise, surprise: North Laurel continues to get solid efforts from both Kayla Bargo and Caitie Jackson. What’s ahead: Roy Bowling’s squad will travel to Bell County Friday before playing a road game against rival South Laurel on Monday. 5. Jackson County (14-3, 9-1) What’s the scoop: The Lady Generals are 9-1 against 13th Region competition and continue to surprise teams in the 13th Region. Surprise, surprise: We all know what Kourtney Tyra can do, but teammates Ashley Bingham and Jessica Bowling are turning in solid numbers this season, too. What’s ahead: Jackson County’s road game against Clay County Friday will trigger a six-game road trip. The Lady Generals follow Friday’s game with an away contest against Estill County. The Best of the rest No. 6 Williamsburg (12-6, 10-3) What’s the scoop: The Lady Yellow Jackets are on a roll after defeating their opponents by a margin of victory of close to 36 points a game last week. No. 7 South Laurel (11-7, 4-4) What’s the scoop: The Lady Cardinals might be hitting stride now with both Tish Walker and Erica Burchett back in the line-up. Look for South Laurel to begin to move up in the rankings soon. No. 8 Corbin (8-11, 4-6) What’s the scoop: The Lady Redhounds have talent, but they can’t seem to get over the hump. No. 9 Whitley County (6-12, 4-6) What’s the scoop: The Lady Colonels haven’t played a game in two weeks. No. 10 (tie) Pineville (14-8, 9-6) What’s the scoop: The Lady Mountain Lions suffered a setback with their loss to Harlan last week. No. 10 (tie) Harlan (11-6, 9-6) What’s the scoop: The Lady Green Dragons move into the top 10 after defeating Pineville this past week.
